Suggestions and Requests / Drag/drop to replace "Link to Element Feature"
« on: February 09, 2011, 06:25:09 am »
Nice feature  :), but far too cumbersome thru the UI   >:(

Short cut the "Link to Element Feature" dialog box by allow a connector drag and drop from one element feature to another directly.

from Element [attribute/operation/element]
to another element's [attribute / operation / element]

also drag black box end point and drop on element's [attribute / operation / element]

There an many, many cases where the current UI is so cumbersome the model does not get specified correctly because it is too much work.  :-*

CUT (delete) from the diagram ... not the model ...

interestingly, you already have to Ctrl-Delete to delete from the model ...

-often initially create elements in current diagram (therefore package) for convenience)
-can only move thru project browser
-laborious with lots of packages

- Ctlr-X to CUT element from current diagram / package
- Ctrl-Shift-X to CUT element from current package
- Ctrl-V to paste into
--- selected diagram
--- selected element
- Support multiple element selection and movement in one move

- simpler moves
- vastly speed up inevitable refactoring of project organization

Cannot see Files on Diagram ...
Either have a Diagram Sub Section ...
show as hyperlinks

MORE GENERALLY ... need a way to see show which elements have what entries underneath ... maybe an indicators bar on each element to show the presence of
.. constraints
.. requirements
.. files
.. details
.. etc.

Sadly ... that is more of a bug ...
EA shows the scenario type + details ... bu not the scenario NAME

Show scenarios -- with Type + Name

There is currently no way to display the scenario on a diagram -- even though it is the meat of a use case.

A classic problem is all the codes and supporting descriptors that are fundamentally part of the design, but not easy to capture in EA / UML, which concentrates on structure rather than values ...

E.g. I have lists of audit value descriptors and corresponding code constants ... or security permission descriptors

... simple ones could be represented as enumerations within a single class, but more sophisticated entries need to be run time instances of a "descriptor" class ...

Entry of run time values is simply too time consuming usng Alt-Shit-R ...

need a mass entry mechanism like a matrix - rows are instances, columns are attributes ... such a mechanism would should also allow the user to review all current instances / settings for a class ... and import / export

Great idea ... I knew this, did it for something else months ago ... and blanked out.  thx much

Suggestions and Requests / Mass Change Use Cases to Rectangular Notation ...
« on: September 27, 2008, 12:43:06 am »
Rectangular notation is much more informative in diagrams but it takes 20 right clicks to change 20 uses cases ..

a) Option to use rectangular notation by default
b) Mass change option applied to a group

This may also apply to other "Advanced" options ... like Make Composite...

Right click .. Advanced .. Make Composite ...
Creates diagram
Diagram -- Change Type -- Sequence

Copy / paste from old to new diagram
or create new diagram from scratch

General Board / Re: Any problems with EA 7.1 and WIndows Vista 64?

Watch out for ODBC drivers (32 bit vs. 64 bit) ... it's a Vista X64 configuration issue ... look for my other responses on how to configure correctly.

considered using <> ?

Probably too late ... how about an enumerating class?

Check for my later message about issues with the ODBC driver

General Board / Re: Vista 64 ... and ODBC connector
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:41:14 pm »
EA works fine under Vista x64 but the ODBC connection can be more than a bit confusing ...

The vista ODBC data sources connect to 64 bit ODBC drivers ...

and EA expects 32 bit connections ....

use .... syswow64\odbcad32.exe to work with / define 32 bit databases under Vista x64.
