Suggestions and Requests / Re: DDL to manage a changing schema
« on: April 06, 2007, 03:53:32 am »
this feature will help me a lot in doing my daily business!!!

i do not need a perfect solution which covers every aspect, but maybe you could deliver a beta-version, maybe for only one specific database and with a limited feature-set?

i will play the beta-tester for you and will give feedback of how it could be improved.

often it is better to deliver a VW Golf within 1 year, than a rolls royce in 10 years :)

I have to add some things:

what I miss in EA is, to set default visibility for link labels.

what does is mean: in huge db-modells, it is impossible to keep the overview, because of these multiple labels which were attached to the relationships.

what might be helpful is that you can define the visibility of these label for the whole model or diagram.

Suggestions and Requests / some new GUI features which ARIS supports
« on: March 12, 2007, 12:41:02 am »
Hi there, I am using EA and ARIS for modelling and I found out that there are a few features, which ARIS supports and EA not:

selection of diagram elements:
- select all objects of a specific type
- select all connections
- invert selection

assign multiple child-diagrams to one element:
- doubleclick the diagram opens a dialog, where you can choose the diagram you want to open

filter within Project Browser
- hide/unhide diagram and/or elements

of course, these are no "shostoppers" but realy useful things, when you are working a lot with modelling tools

there is an interesting theoretical article about this topic

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/resources/uml_datamodel.html

but i'm afraid, there is currently no practical support from ea.

i don't believe, that it is much effort to build a mdg-plugin to transform a class modell to a entity relationship model.

this would save a lot of time. if there is any solution, please let me know

there is another way using EA within a wan environment: try citrix!

i have worked in such an environment, where the EA-repository was located on an oracle-server and the citrix server right beside connected with a fat cable to the oracle.

if you just have a 2 mbit line, this solution works fine as long as the citrix can handle the number of clients.

this post is more than one year old, but I have the same behavior of the EA licence server. Is this problem still existing in version 6.5? Is there anybody out there, who has the same problem, or is this still a user error?

General Board / Re: Reverse Engineering - Package Diagrams
« on: June 11, 2007, 07:03:05 am »
if I have understand you correctly, you want to generate a package-dependency diagram, where you can see which package depends on which other.

there exists an EA-plugin called "RizoSuite" developed by SparxSystems CEE. As far as I know at the moment only a beta-version exists.

Because the do not offer this beta-version for download, you can have to write an email to one of the contact-persons there (e.g. sales@sparxsystems.at) and try to get a copy of it.

ad 1) there is a possibility to share project wide settings among other users, but there is some manual work to do.

1. export project settings (tools | export reference data)
2. add the exported xml-file to your project in your cvs
3. all other users get the lates version of this settings-file
4. all other users have to import this settings file (tools | import reference data)

of course this way is not very comfortable, but it works.

General Board / Re: Alternative database backend
« on: September 27, 2005, 08:11:14 am »
i know, this posting is very old, but does EA now suppoort DB2 as a backend-DB?

if not, is it planned in future releases?

it is important for me, because one of our customers wants this feature!

is it planned, that ea synchronize the source code into the "initial code" attribute of operations?

it was great, if ea could do that. in my opinion, this the last missing link between ea and a real ide.

if ea would have this feature, and the source code could be edited (with the already existing, great code-editor), you do not need an ide anymore.

The 'Set Label Visibility' is great, if you want to change the attributes of one connection, but is there a possibility to set default values for the project?

I have a DB-diagram with about 100 connections, so the effort to change the visibililits for all connection is enormous.

I have the same problem. I did not find a way to set the default label visibility.  ???

Maybe it's a worth for a feature request.

if there is a solution, please let me know.

I have the same problem!
I'm using Windows XP (SP2), EA 5 (Build 760) and MyODBC 3.51.

Is there any solution available?
