Suggestions and Requests / Re: Auto Repeat MOVE ELEMENT UP / DOWN
« on: July 20, 2015, 04:54:16 pm »
Well there you go, a feature I didn't know existed ... Change Element Type. Thanks for that. There are so many functions!! I think I shall go and explore all the Advanced sub menus.
You are correct with your summary and yes this will help. Thanks.

OK, just so you understand, when we first started using EA, we weren't all that UML savvy so really just used it to document our requirements in a way we saw fit at the time. Probably true of many of your users. So, because the component element made for useful diagrams, we used that as a node in our project with many requirements as children. The top level package had at least 2 components in its hierarchy before reaching a requirement. Auto numbering was turned on and these became paragraph numbers in our output documents (We use eaDocX).
A way down the line I am using this original document as the basis of another one. However components don't fulfil my need so I am converting each component to a feature. Bearing in mind I want to use the same numbering (the documents are related), I create a new feature, move all the requirements as children of the feature and remove the component. When finished the features don't have the same order as the original components hence the need for the MOVE UP / DOWN.

Anywhere up to 50 elements reside in a package say and I need to reorder them using the ELEMENT UP/DOWN buttons at the top of the project browser. Dragging within a package doesn't allow you to reorder the elements. You cant drop an element between two others, only on another element making the first a child of the second.

I do a lot of projects based on other projects which I then edit and reorganise. This necessitates that I move elements up and down the project tree. You very quickly get sore fingers clicking the mouse and auto repeat would be very useful on the move element buttons.

Suggestions and Requests / Element Text
« on: February 06, 2014, 09:07:43 pm »
With connectors, you can rotate, move and adjust the line formatting and position of text but it doesn't seem to be possible with elements. On busy diagrams, it would be useful to have some control over the text in an element

Absolutely. This seems to be the place where THE users come to play! I am on LinkedIn too but the discussions tend to go off topic very quickly.

Suggestions and Requests / Text Formatting of Element Names
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:59:03 pm »
I would like to see some small extra formatting allowed in the text used to name elements.

e.g. a medical term MSpO2 should have the 2 subscripted as here and I would like the subscript to flow through to the documentation.

From my point of view, I dont see the need for it. Use more diagrams. Keeping it simple is always better and I expect it would be a real PITA to implement. How would you choose which relationships to apply to the various instances of an element?

Funny, the only search response to 'git' is the very last forum entry with 'git' in the title.

I don't know if it' a good idea to make EA a RM toolq.
Hold your horses there. EA can be very good at RM, it depends what you want to do. The beauty of EA is it can be all things to all people, just look at the diverse uses mentioned in the forums. My advice would be, try it out and see how you get on.

Paste the image in a diagram.
And then your diagram is not part of the model. It ends up in your reference data!!!!!

Thanks Ian, but I dont really want another tool to do the job, I want EA to do it, hence its inclusion in Suggestions and Requests  ;)

Suggestions and Requests / Batch Update of Status.
« on: August 30, 2012, 06:04:45 pm »
There is a discussion on the General board about this and Geert B identifies that statuses can be updated in batches for packages and all sub elements if required.

Well I use packages, but I also use features with sub features and requirements, so I would like to use a similar status update, where I can right mouse click any element, not just packages, and set the status of all elements below it in the project browser tree. Otherwise I have to set them all individually.

It's not a formal request until:
... use the Feature Request link at the foot of this page.
Thanks Paolo, I did that too
