No beginner, I don't believe I questioned anyone's intelligence in my post, I just pointed out that two of the dialogs were the same in case that was overlooked.

I do not deny that the standard font and the standard color dialog choosers are different, but they're standard dialogs across the Windows platform. The moment we go straying from that we'll be lined up by the other 90% of the user base because we went against the platform standard.

The second and third last picture show the same dialog, just that the second last one has the Define Custom Colors section expanded.

In the last picture, clicking the select button would take you to that same dialog (RGB fields were provided at that dialog level to save you one more level of dialog).

The 4th last dialog is the standard Windows font chooser dialog (provided by common controls). Please note that the color dialog (the other 3 dialog instances) is also a standard Windows dialog. So if there is an inconsistency then it is across Windows as a whole. I do not have a say in the usage of these dialogs, but if it were up to me, I'd certainly prefer to use the standard Windows dialogs ahead of custom ones as that is what the wider user base is familiar with.

The other two (context menu/combo box related color choosers) I'd have to have a little bit more of a look into - so your issue report will lend weight to that.

Michael Fraser offered to keep an eye on these resizable dialog requests, and to act on them if possible. However, Michael - like Elvis - has left the building (but thankfully not, like Elvis, this life).

If only someone had said thankyou on the forums for making all those dialogs resizable.... :p

Suggestions and Requests / Re: All I want for a Sparxly Christmas:

I thought it might be fun to have a constructive thread where we all add our number one suggestion or improvement that we'd like Santa Sparx to bring us in 2011.

I'll go for diagram enhancements because it is the one my colleagues find so frustrating and a turn off

This may have to be rejected. Your "diagram enhancements" request is actually 29 indvidual requests packaged as one. Greed is one of the seven deadly sins and Santa only comes to good boys and girls  :D

PS: looking through your list we have actually implemented a fair few of them, and they should hopefully surface in the next major release.

Layering behaviour can be achieved through the Diagram Filters facility.

Have a look at for more details

if you want to express your idea correctly and clearly in Latin you might try, "Ceterum censeo errores esse emendandos."  (Technical explanations: errores is accusative plural versus erroris, genitive singular; emendandos because the gerundive--a verbal adjective--must agree with the noun in gender, number, and case.  And OK, I think emendare expresses the idea of correcting more clearly.)

Now write it 100 times

Suggestions and Requests / SPARX RFC - Tagged Value support for CSV
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:55:13 am »
There have been a number of requests both on the forums, and through the official support channels for the CSV import/export process to support tagged values.

Unfortunatley, representing this relational data in a two-dimensional format for a set of generic elements is not straight forward, and can be done in a variety of ways. As such we are requesting feedback from users as to what format they would expect tagged value data to be presented in.

This feedback will be evaluated through the design decision making process based on its merits. If you would like to participate your thoughts on this area, please send an email marked for my attention to

Really? I might have to recheck my facts.... I thought Belgium had the crazy butterfly song this year that came second last.

I think in reality Eurovision works a little bit like golf. The lower your score, the more national dignity you can hold onto. So even though the Germans trounced us 4-0 in the World Cup, they still have to deal with the shame of winning Eurovision.

I know that you didn't do too well in Eurovision this year (too soon?).

Still KP's motherland did worse - I'd let him know as well, but he'd just remind me about the World Cup ;D

Did you mean: Ceterum censeo erroris esse rectal translation

Thanks for nothing google.

We keep identifying them here?

Maybe do both: while I'm happy to keep tabs on this thread and implement what's needed in response to it, it's probably a bit safer if you log it through the official channels. That way if I suddenly inherit millions of dollars from a rich relative I never knew I had and am forced to leave work to focus on a life of decadent pleasure seeking, then at least someone will be able to take up the bat.

Until then, I'll keep regularly checking this thread when I can and implementing the recomendations when time allows.  8-)

The ones I've modified are (and I've included that check in the usability testing).

If you can identify any others that aren't I'm more than happy to look into it for you.

The Connector Label Visibility dialog has been converted to a resizable dialog. This change should appear in the next major release of Enterprise Architect.

The Generate Package Source Code and Connector Visibility dialogs have both been converted to resizable dialogs.

The RTF Generation dialog will be a much more significant exercise as the controls are all embedded in tabs and there's a lot more of them. It might also be worth submitting a feature request for this one too.

I've converted the 4 dialogs mentioned across the forum posts into resizable dialogs:

- Project Integrity Dialog
- Manage Locks Dialog
- Notes Dialog
- Element Usage Dialog

The extra requested functionality (eg context menus for navigating to corresponding elements in the project browser) would be a more significant exercise - so I'd reccomend sending through a feature request for that.

Also if you could advise which resizable dialogs DON'T persist their size when dismissed and reopened, I'll get to fixing them straight away (again a bug report would be appreciated on this one).
