General Board / Stereotypes in RTF reports
« on: August 05, 2004, 11:46:02 am »
??? Prior to the release of 4.1 an object's stereotype appeared in my RTF reports.  Since upgrading to build 732 the no longer appear.  Does anyone know how to turn them back on?

General Board / How to control diagram boarder?
« on: March 30, 2004, 12:02:08 pm »
I'm looking for a way to control (suppress) the boarder and heading that appear around 4.0 diagram prints and in RTF and HTML reports.   I want to suppress these in RTF and HTML reports as they are redundant to the diagram caption and detract from the appearance of the report.

Thanks.

General Board / Reverse Engineer ProC and Oracle Stored Procedures
« on: March 19, 2004, 04:44:06 am »
Our project is using an Oracle database with a PowerBuilder front end and ProC and Oracle stored procedures in the backend.

1) Is there any way to reverse engineer the ProC using either the C++ or C# capabilities in EA?  If not, has anyone come up with a plug-in that will do the trick?

2) I have successfully imported the Oracle database schema into my models.  What I need to know is how can I capture the stored procedures.  Any help out there?

General Board / Metatags in HTML Reoprts
« on: March 05, 2003, 12:53:29 pm »
Has anyone out there come up with a QUICK and EASY way of including Metatags in HTML reports to allow a search engine to locate a specific page(s)?  I am guessing this might be done by tweeking the HTML report template and am hoping someone might have worked it out. What I would like to do is be able to enter the keywords somewhere in the package, object, or diagram properties and have these translated into keywords in the HTML report.

Thanks for any help you can give.

General Board / Modifying HTML Reports
« on: March 11, 2003, 09:27:19 am »
I've hit a bit of a wall and could use any help that anyone might be able to offer.

I'm using a HTML template to produce web-based user help for our application generated from the EA model.  My HTML Help template suppresses Tagged Value tables, Senario tables, and other items in the model that the client doesn't what the user to see.  This works fine but the "Goto: Tagged Values,Senarios, etc." line still appears in the HTML report.  My client thinks this would confuse the users and want me to suppress the Goto line.

My problem is that I have been unable to locate where this comes from in HTML templates.  I suspect it is part of the EA code that generates the HTML report.

1) Can anyone tell me if (and where) the Goto line might be in the HTML Template?

or

2) Will a future release of EA allow greater flexability in structuring the HTML report pages such as the order, and even if, elements are displayed?

Thanks.

General Board / Relative Links in HTML Reports
« on: January 21, 2003, 05:43:50 am »
As part of our implementation of EA as our Analysis and Design repository, I am using the HTML reporting feature to generate a monthly "Design Update" CD-ROM to provided stakeholders and project management with a snapshot of the project. This has been very well received and our prime contractor is marketing the idea as a "best practice" to other clients.

There are times that I need to use links to other documents (usually PDF files) from within the model.  While this works very well within the model repository - I store the documents in the same directory as the EA database - I need an effective way of setting up relative links to the documents that will work from the HTML reports when they are run from a Web site or CD-ROM.

Is there any existing functionality that I am missing? Or, can this be addressed in a future release?

General Board / Help with RTF Style Templates
« on: October 30, 2002, 12:17:56 pm »
I'm taking my first look at the 3.50 release and generally like what I see. However, there is something I need some help with.

When I generate an RTF report, EA places the object's scope, stereotype, and object type in front of the notes for the object like this

public «textbox» GUIElement:

For some of the documents I publish for my client, this information is not needed and gets in the way.

I've tried poking around in the RTF Style Template to find a way to exclude this information but don't know enough about RTF codes and how the are used by EA.  Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks

General Board / Object Labels in HTML Reports
« on: July 22, 2002, 06:20:23 am »
I just want to say you have been doing a great job with EA.  We've been using it to document analysis and design on this project for about a year now and love it.

Recently I've been using metafile graphics in activity stereotypes to produce HTML based user documentation from the model.  The only problem I'm having is that when I generate the HTML report the object labels in my activity diagrams truncate to 2 lines (some of the labels are 3-4 lines due to the size of the graphic).  Resizing the graphic isn't a solution since it would badly distort the image.  I've also tried changing the font color on the object to white and using a seperate label but this doesn't work with the metafile graphics.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.  Keep up the good work.

General Board / HTML Reports as Online Help
« on: July 02, 2002, 07:01:51 am »
 ;D
The HTML reporting output with templates is in the process of changing how I'm developing online user help for our project.  I'm using navigational diagrams in conjuction with modified templates to create 1) Client Design Update Reports for CD-ROM, 2) Online System Documentation, and 3) Online User Documentation - all from our EA development model.  I'm now working with our programmers on integrating HTML reporting from EA as web-based User Help in place of WinHelp or HTMLHelp.  To really make this go, I need help on a couple of things.

1.  I would like an easy way to generate the HTML report without the table of contents frame set. That is, just the default diagram as the 'index.htm' page. (For now, I'm working around this by creating a shortcut to the appropriate page in the generated report.)  That way the application programmers have a set page to link to when calling online help.

2.  This one might be a bit tougher. - Is there a way to predict where ( folder \ sub-folder \ filename.htm ) the html page for a given object in EA will be generated in the HTML report?  If there is, it will allow the programmers and me to generate an EA HTML report as context sensitive online help.

Keep up the great work - this tool just keeps getting better and better!

General Board / Still missing field length/precision in RTF report
« on: December 04, 2001, 07:04:34 am »
??? A problem I had reported in version 2.5 was the lack of field length/persision information in RTF reports for tables.  I just started evaluating version 3.0 and find that RTF reports still lack this information!  Is there any way I can get this information to display short of building custom reports directly from the model database? - something I would rather NOT do!

General Board / Read-Only Version for 3.0
« on: December 04, 2001, 09:36:32 am »
:) When will a read-only version for 3.0 be available?  We are using the read-only for providing monthly updates to Project Management.  I downloaded EALite today but it is still the 2.5 version and won't open a 3.0 model.  I'll need to get this squared away before we can upgrade to 3.0.  Thanks.

General Board / Generating DDL Schema
« on: December 03, 2001, 12:21:36 pm »
??? When generating DDL from EA, is there a way to reset the target path to null so the application will prompt for a target the next time I run the generation?
