There are methods for exporting and importing package XMI, as well as transformations and imports (forward and reverse engineering), but reference data seems to be unsupported.

Methods for doing this - probably via the Repository object - would be welcome.

Search through the SDK document for "_metatype"...

Hi Neil,

You can't change the icon in the Resources window, but for instructions on how to change the icon in the Toolbox, search the SDK document for "Icons for Toolbox Items".

Please consider (if you've not done this for 7.0 already) making metatype a read/write attribute somehow (or making the 'background' property accessible for writing).

As well, please consider extending icon support to the Resource and Project Browser windows.

Suggestions and Requests / Request: "All users" option on MDG insta
« on: October 03, 2006, 07:49:06 am »
[Note that this request relates to a thread in the Automation section; I was not the originator of that thread, but the idea seems sound.]

It would be nice to have the choice to install an MDG add-in for all users (accounts) of a particular machine, versus only for the current login name.

As a partial solution, consider using the same setting (all versus current) that EA is enabled for.

[This is meant to apply to the Sparx add-ins. Those of us who write our own add-ins will need to handle this on a case-by-case basis.]

What say, voters?

Suggestions and Requests / Re: BUG Can not set column type in table
« on: June 26, 2006, 08:19:41 am »
Check your database language. You may have to assign it for the new table. You can also set the default database language, and I think you can set the language for a particular model.

To set the default, from the main menu choose Settings / Database Datatypes. In the dialog you can choose the product from the dropdown, add a new product if you so require, and set the default with the appropriate checkbox.

Suggestions and Requests / Repository support for Oracle Express
« on: March 14, 2006, 06:01:01 am »
Please consider explicit support for EA Corporate repositories using the new Oracle Express no-cost version.

[If the schema etc. for Oracle 9.x works well, please consider adding instructions for Oracle Express, along the same lines as your support for MSDE and SQL Server.]

Suggestions and Requests / Name-only display for Class attributes
« on: February 20, 2006, 05:09:05 am »
For brainstorming and presentation it would be useful to display only the names of class attributes. This would be via a setting at the diagram level, and would eliminate all other adornments, including the visibility, type, and value. Most importantly, even the punctuation would be gone; the colon would not appear at the end of the attribute name.

This would only relate to what is displayed on a diagram. The attributes themselves could be fully populated, with datatypes, initial values, or whatever.

This display option would be helpful for brainstorming, presentations and non-technical documentation, or any other high-level diagrams.

Suggestions and Requests / Changing Print settings in EALite
« on: February 20, 2006, 04:04:38 am »
We have some users at another site who do not have the same hardcopy devices as the modellers. We also create a large number of diagrams through the automation interface. While not necessarily pretty, these provide overviews of subsets of relationships in a complex model.

Our read-only users sometimes find that a diagram would fit better if the page orientation were changed. They also would like to print on larger pages - they have large-format printers and wondrous plotters. Sadly, EALite does not allow these settings to be changed.

Please consider allowing changes to the page setup in EALite.

General Board / Moving source code breaks synchonization

Hi, I have a problem! I Import Source Directory from C# project, and I make all needed diagrams, but now we make big changes with our project we have different solutions, different folders and I can't make reverse engineering to synchronize packages and I can't see the source code in source code view.
Please  write me if someone have any ideas how to  change source directory, and synchronize source code from new directory and how to see code when I select some of classes! To generate separately all is very time consuming! Thank you for advance  for all suggestions!

General Board / BUG - Cannot 'Save As' to existing file
« on: September 05, 2007, 09:41:11 am »
In Build 816, when using the File | Save Project As function, the Save As dialog is invoked. If you browse to a current file (so that you can replace the file) you will be asked to confirm that you want to replace the file. If you answer Yes you are Brought back to the Save As dialog.

So far so good...

However, if you now click OK on the Save As dialog you receive an error message: "You cannot specify the name of an existing file. Please enter a new project name." There is only an OK button on the error message, and you are returned to the Save As dialog.

The behavior should be changed so that the user is prompted only once. If the user confirms that the target file should be replaced the Save As dialog should do so.

General Board / Re: Microsoft Project Integration
« on: October 23, 2006, 04:28:26 am »
AFAIK this is not in the (current) feature set for EA.

That said, it would not be a difficult add-in to write, and you could probably include considerable customization to suit your specific needs.

General Board / Shapescript documentation
« on: January 30, 2006, 04:44:14 am »
I have an immediate need to tailor a profile, specifically with customized shapes for several classifiers and links.

Some time ago one of the Sparxians mentioned that the Shape Script documentation in the EA User Guide was not yet complete nor correct.

Now that we have 6.1 out, and the BPMN profile uses shape scripts, I was hoping to find more complete information. However, this section of the help files does not seem to have changed since the scripts were released.

I have a nagging suspicion that some time ago I saw a reference to some informal documentation on shape scripts - this could have been in this forum or at the EA User Group - but I cannot find the reference anywhere (if I'm not imagining the whole thing).

Anyone have a working pointer, or some hints?

Sparx folks: do you have anything I could look at while we wait for the help file to update itself.

General Board / MS Access Replication ID
« on: January 29, 2006, 10:05:08 am »
I am trying to work with data models for MS Access 2000 (or later).

I am working with EA 6.1, build 785.

These versions of Access allow the use of a GUID as the primary key. You can set the data type to AutoNumber, and the field size to Replication ID (instead of Long Integer).

Same holds true for foreign keys; you set the data type to Number, and once again set the field size to Replication ID.

I cannot find any method to data model this in EA. If I import a data schema through ODBC EA does import the keys and relationships, but converts these fields to Text(255), in both the above cases.

Any ideas?

Sparx folks: have you any updates, profiles, or whatever for Jet 4.0 that could handle this?

General Board / Cannot activate BPMN add-in
« on: January 19, 2006, 05:36:31 am »
I have downloaded and installed EA 6.1 without problems.

I then downloaded and installed the BPMN MDG add-in. The installation ran without problems.

When I run EA I cannot find the Add-ins menu. The Customize dialog lists the menu, but without any entries, and with no means to activate the menu.

I verified that the appropriate registry key is present, and it appears to have the correct value. I also ran regsvr32 to make sure that the DLL registered.

There is no XML file to allow an import into the Resources tree.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Bugs and Issues / Build 862 - confusing help file date
« on: August 23, 2010, 11:15:51 pm »
The following has been reported to Sparx for resolution or clarification.

The "Compiled" date for Build 862 help shows August 10, 2010. This is the case for both the separate help download (the CHM file) and the help contained in the full install kit.

This is the same date that the CHM file for Build 861 shows, and is consistent with the release date for Build 861.

The CHM files for Builds 861 and 862 differ slightly in size, with the newer one being about 1K smaller.

Bugs and Issues / Build 859 - downloaded help file version incorrect
« on: July 16, 2010, 10:20:02 pm »
This issue has been reported as of 2010-07-16.

FWIW

The help file (EA.chm) on the Registered Users download has a "Compiled June 23 2010" entry, matching that of Build 858. The file contained within a full install has a "Compiled July 12 2010" entry, which seems more plausible.

I do not know whether the user guide (PDF) on the download page is current or matches the help file.
