Suggestions and Requests / forums available as rss and/or news
« on: October 03, 2005, 12:27:29 pm »
It's been a while since I contributed to EA forums - to be honest this mendium isn't conducive!

What about an rss feed or a news server?

General Board / Code import - c# and collections
« on: November 30, 2006, 06:33:35 am »
By setting the collection classes I can make a simple 1 to many relationship between Company and Employee to use a collection class called EmployeeList - that is great.

But

When importing fresh source in to a model - the exact same code misses the link between the collection and the '1-many link'. An 'Association' is created from 'Company' to 'EmployeeList' - but the whole concept of the 'Aggregation' is missed!

Is there any way to make EA realise that I have a collection in these cases?

General Board / Tests - they seem to get a bit lost!
« on: January 07, 2006, 10:56:22 am »
What are the guidelines for maintaining tests in EA?
I have a problem that they seem to get a bit lost - it's not obvious when an object has some tests - it seems that we have to select each object with the "Test Cases" pane open and see if there are some there. This is hampered by a missing aggregated 'All Tests' tab - so you have to flick between all of the test types as well.
So I resorted to an advanced search - that's better - I've found all of the objects within a section  of the tree that have test objects but as I use the keyboard goig up/down with the arrow keys in the search results list doesn't update the test pane (clicking does!).

Ok - So finally I want to run a tracability matrix to see if all of my requirement objects have tests and stuff like that - but they don't seem to appear in there  :(.

I am resorting to build test-cases packaged in use-cases where the use-case has a dependency stereotyped as "tests" (don't feel that is the right link) to the requirement and then putting a bunch of the tests into the use-case.

I think this is going to help a little but I think there is still a load of useful stuff that could be done with the tests (maybe there already is and I am missing it  ;))

General Board / No 'realize' in Quick-Link
« on: February 03, 2006, 02:41:43 pm »
Quick-Link between Requirements does not present 'Realize' as an option - is the available list definable somewhere or is not considered a 'normal' link?

I have quite a few links like this indicating that some 'new' finer-grain requirements realize some older coarse-grain requirement but I don't want to lose the old one.

General Board / Customising with stereotypes
« on: December 11, 2005, 01:27:05 am »
I am playing with creating a set of stereotypes to create a profile for use with Alistair Cockburn's book "Writing Effective Use Cases"...

A couple of things initially:

When setting a custom-shape to a stereotype I would like to be able to either add an 'icon' in a corner or be able to specifiy where the text goes - I am adding sea, cloud, kite, clam and fish levels and would like to add a pictorial adornment to the use case.

I would like to be able to specify more of the formatting elements (specifically the border size)

Stereotypes for connectors don't allow any icon adornment, endings or customisation of the line colour, type and width.

General Board / Changing the options in the scope list
« on: November 24, 2005, 04:22:13 am »
Is it possible to define my own list of scope options (possibly for different element types) and maybe having it as a free field.
For example - I am trying to write Use-Cases as per Alistair Cockburn's examples in "Writing Effective Use Cases" and would like to use the Scope field for describing more.

General Board / Getting the requirement 'type' into documentation
« on: October 06, 2005, 04:06:07 am »
How does one get the type field (the top-right drop-down above phase in a requirement object - functional, display, printing etc.) into RTF documents?

General Board / Favorites and Association Class
« on: August 13, 2002, 04:04:43 pm »
Just got build 502...

Looking for the 'Add to Favorites' menu option, but can't find it. Anyone found it?

Also just noticed that after linking a class to an association, there seems to be no way of breaking the link. The link doesn't appear in the classes links and the link isn't selectable etc.

The only way to do it is to delete the original link between the two classes which also deletes the class that was linked - a little annoying if you happened to get the link wrong and wanted to change it (Undo doesn't do it either).

General Board / Attribute Constraints and Tagged Values
« on: August 18, 2002, 02:35:56 pm »
Have just been trying to add constraints to some attributes in tables to model the upper and lower bounds of attributes, but the attributes don't pick up on either the constraint types or tagged value types from the main Reference section.

Also, is there any way of sensibly displaying (optionally - maybe off the existing option in the diagram options) constraints for attributes (maybe in {} after the attribute or something)

Cheers

General Board / Removed Functionality
« on: July 16, 2002, 01:17:11 am »
I have been working with component diagrams a lot recently and somewhere in the builds the dropping of a component onto a node has stopped creating an aggregation link.

Or have I missed a setting somewhere?

General Board / Diagram Font Problems
« on: April 17, 2002, 03:18:59 am »
Sometimes when printing a diagram or exporting to an emf or into rtf documentation there is a problem with the font size meaning that text escapes out of the right of an object even though it is displayed as all being conatined within the object within EA.

This is most noticable on notes.

It is difficult to work around as one has to export the documentation to find out if there is a problem and then go back and change the size of the object and export again to check.

Maybe it's a problem with my fonts?
Any thoughts?

General Board / Problem with Realisation on link-Tree
« on: July 03, 2002, 07:22:29 am »
Great additions to the association-tree view on the properties window, BUT...

I seem to be having a problem with any object that has been realised - lot's of 'Not a valid Bookmark' Errors.

HELP!

General Board / Operations
« on: July 06, 2002, 03:50:03 pm »
I found the following earlier:

C++ default reference works wrong way round (choose pointer get &, choose reference get *)

Property Get's should be const by default should they not as they aren't gonna change the object.

General Board / Printing with Shadows
« on: June 21, 2002, 04:00:26 am »
Just a little one...

When printing from EA (black and white only) the shadows get borders. This doesn't happen when exporting or printing in colour.

Could this be changed so that the B+W come out without the borders?

General Board / Phases
« on: June 20, 2002, 02:42:32 am »
Does anybody know of any way to set a new 'project' phase so that all of the objects created after 'NOW' can be marked as phase 2?

Cheers,
Ronnie
