Hi qwerty,

The connectors missing are mainly associations and the directions of labels of the associations are also missing. Additionally some of the child diagram links are missing. But this happens not in every check-in attempt. We are not able to figure out the exact cause.

General Board / EA Training required - specifically for Version Control

Hi All,

Me and my team (20 people approx.) are working on creation of conceptual data models using Enterprise Architect version 12. We are using the Version Control feature of EA through Subversion client so as to work parallely on the models. But while checking in, sometimes we find that some of the connectors are missing or some changes not getting reflected. Since we are not very clear on whether the setup we have done is correct or not and also to better understand the Version Control feature of EA, I was wondering if there are training of EA specifically focussed on Version Control setup and maintenance.

Can anyone please suggest such a training in Singapore?

But actually I am trying to run the VBA Code (like EAImporter Excel), compare an excel file data with EA. So I guess I will have to establish some connectivity with the EA file database. I am currently using the getSelectedPackage() function as mentioned in your file . But what if I want to search the element in the entire model and then update its attributes. I can do it by searching it in 't_object' table and then firing the 'update' query. The approach Edit > Search in Model > Edit Search > SQL Scratch Pad would only let me search and not update. I want to update element from the backend database. So I thought that similar to what we have like a JDBC connectivity, do we need some conncection string for connecting an VBA (outside Excel file) to the database.?
Maybe a stupid question but I don't know the approach.

Sure I would use a query.
But could let me know where can I find the commands for connecting with the default jet database(MS Access) so that I can run the query.

But actually I am not using any dedicated database. I am not very much worried about the run time either. Its just that I do not know how to traverse in the package hierarchy. I have many independent EA models (.EAP files) and I want to use the same code for all these models. I have to sync. all the data in Excel and EA. I want to traverse all the classes and attributes under a root package (which might have varying hierarchy of packages depending on different EAP files)
and check if the class/attribute exists in Excel and then sync the data.
The code works if all the classes are under one package. But When we have a hierarchy of packages existing (and the hierarchy might change with different EAP files) I am finding it difficult to come up with a code.

Any suggestions would be pretty helpful.

Hi All,

I am working on importing attributes and classes from Excel to EA. Geert's EA to Excel importer was pretty helpful. I had modified it a bit to my needs but there is one problem I am facing. The code lets you select only single package. What if I have classes grouped under different packages? I have to run it  multiple times by selecting each package. Is there any function whcih lets you select multiple packages or searches for the class in the entire hierarchy of packages?

I am using the excel to EA importer. I tried learning VBA for the same and have been able to modify the script to my needs. But I am stuck at one place. I do not know how to modify the Scope for the attribute.
By default the new attributes created by the code are of 'public' scope.
In the function mentioned below I tried to update the scope as highlighted but does not work.

Hi All,

I am also facing the same issue. I have about hundreds of attributes in Excel and those attributes have to be added to existing classes in EA.
By CSV import/export I can add tagged values. Is there any way by which I can add/update attributes for existing class.

I do not have an exposure in scripting. Is it possible without scripting? Or if anyone has ever faced the same issue would request to help.

Hi All,
If anyone has worked on implementation of TOGAF through the tool, please help me. My team is trying to implement TOGAF for a risk architecture. We have already developed the Business Architectrue, Application Architecture and Information (Data) Architecture. Just wanted some help about where can I find the details about the connectors used in TOGAF's ADM process(e.g.Which connector is specifically used for which specific Architecture). I have tried looking it up on internet but if someone can share some links, it would be of great help.

Hi all,

I have a query regarding the EA lite version. Do we have the option of applying filters in the EA Lite version because I saw on the sparx site that the Lite version allows 'File' menu options , Team Review and Relationship Matrix but nothing was mentioned about filters.

Actually I do not have the admin rights so even though its free I can't install it on the system.

Hi all,

We are working on a project wherein we have some 40-50 diagrams. In the diagrams we have connectors to which we have added information by right-clicking on the connector then selecting
Advanced-->'Information Items Conveyed' option.

We have moved this project to the Oracle database. Now when we try to reopen the file from database into EA these 'Information Items' appear to be displaced. They are not appearing on top of the connectors to which they are linked which is making it very difficult in understanding the diagrams. We tried to rearrange the items properly and again saved the diagrams but when we tried to open it from a different machine, again the items were displaced.

Is there any setting that we have changed by mistake or something else?? What can be done regarding this??

Hi all,

We are working on a project wherein we have some 40-50 diagrams. In the diagrams we have connectors to which we have added information by right-clicking on the connector then selecting
Advanced-->'Information Items Conveyed' option.

Each one of us has a replica which we upload to a sharepoint site. Finally we merge all files. The problem that we are facing from past 1 week is that somehow the position of the information placed over the connectors is getting misplaced when we upload the files and download at any other location. In the original file(i.e file where the information is added and placed over connector) the information appears to be perfectly placed.

We tried locking the diagram and then uploading but that also does not not work.
Is there any setting that we have changed by mistake or something else?? What can be done regarding this??
