Thanks for that Paolo.  For some reason I thought you were a 'Sparxian'....doh!

Thanks Paolo, will do.  So, I guess that the html form is your preferred feature request mechanism?  If so, I will use that in future.

Thanks again

Thanks Paolo.  But I would like to be able to view either item when there is no existing relationship.  If the packages are checked out I could add the link, view the items and then remove it again.  But if the model is not checked out you can't use this workaround.

Suggestions and Requests / Matrix View Enhancements

For the matrix view, could we have the ability to:

~ Reorder the columns & rows.
~ Open an item's properties even when there is no link between them.

Thanks

Thanks for the link Paolo.  I will submit a formal to Sparx.

To take this further, what I think I should be able to do is select how I want to represent this 'link' between the classes, similarly to what VS2005 allows you to do this in its class designer.  An association and an attribute whose type are conceptually the same thing and should be treated as such.

This could be implemented in a number of ways - diagram or model level preference (as link, as attribute, as both), or by right-clicking the item and selecting.

Gee, that would make me happy.  ;)

Our convention is to use attributes only to model primitive types (string, int, etc.) and associations only to model links to other types, including enumerations in the model.  This works well for us and reduces clutter in the model by not representing the same information twice.  (I'd be interested to hear if anyone else does this, but that's not my point!)

Alternatively, you can model a link to another non-primitive type as an attribute and use the attribute detail tab to declare the multiplicity of the 'link'.  If I have such an attribute, I get to select it in the role name if I then choose to go and add an association.  However, I can set the multiplicity of the role end of the association to a different value from the attribute, and visa versa.  Would these not be better synchronised?

Also, again in the case where I have a 'link' attribute, but have no additional association to represent this, the 'relationship' between the types does not appear in the Relationships window.  I think it should as the attribute represents a link between two classes.

I think that both of these should be added as features.  The synchronisation should also be mandatory as the model is inconsistent if there are two representations of the same 'link' that show different values.

Yep - that'd be a really useful feature.

Works for generalisations too.  But, yeah, can we have it for every association, please?

How about Mozilla style closing of diagram tabs?  That'd be cool :)

Also, using this forum the same as using the feature request html form as far as you guys at Sparx are concerned?

Thanks again

Sean

PS: Just got 766 and I LOVE the shift-click to move a connector.  Really really really cool :)  This along with the double-clicking the association end opening the appropriate Role tab......I'm in heaven!!

Suggestions and Requests / RTF Filtering
« on: June 15, 2005, 01:26:20 am »
Love the new rtf generation :)  But would love to have the ability to be able to filter it too.  An example of what I mean is to be able to report only on connectors that are navigable from the current element.

I'm sure you guys are on to this, but it raises the issue of being able to have a section where I can run through the same package again, filtering in some other way if I like.

Thanks

I stumbled upon it by accident myself as I had too many stereotype prefixes in the PV.  Quite useful though!

Suggestions and Requests / Requirements Stereotypes in Project View
« on: June 14, 2005, 07:19:27 am »
Could we have an option to determine whether the type of the requirement is displayed in Project View?  The type is displayed as a stereotype in the PV.

Also, if you open the requirement properties by double-clicking the project view, delete the tpye and hit enter, it disappears from the PV, but does not change the type fo the requirement - at least for functional requirements.

Thanks

My vote too for Thomas' suggestion and a REALLY BIG VOTE for Sargasso's!!!!!!!

Why not just have 'normal' cut and paste (like Rose has, if I can remember back that far!)

Fair comment Thomas.  Howwever, given the sort of software Sparx produce, I would have thought it likely that it is tiered and loosely coupled under the hood, making the cacheing of middle-tier changes fairly simple.  We'll see!
