Suggestions and Requests / Save image... size
« on: June 16, 2008, 06:13:55 pm »
Hi,

I'ld like to have a feature to determine the size of the image that is saved when I select Diagram->Save Image. It happens that I want to include an UML diagram in a Word document and I have to resize the image to fit it onto the page. Applying different filters always results in "smeared" texts. If one could select an image size, this would be helpful.

Thanks,
Stefan

Hi,

I reported this problem via the registered support form. I'll try to mail you 4 pngs:

2 with "zoom to best scale" enable (100% and 400%)
2 with "zoom to best scale" disable (100% and 400%)

I'm working with the latest version of EA.

To be honest, this is not the first time that we (the users) request a better diagram to bitmap feature. This forum has multiple topics about this. I don't think that if we post here, it's intended to offend you, but to discuss what is actually happening when we use the software you programmed. If we discuss a feature and we discover that the feature is not working as expected, we will (and have done so) send a request via the appropriate forms.

Nevertheless... this being an official Sparx Forum and given that you (and your co-workers) read and reply to topics on this forum, one might think that you catch a problem, if it is stated in the forum, even if you don't have a bug report in your email account asap.

Don't get me wrong... EA is a great software. I have selected (and promoted it to my clients) after evaluating a dozen of different UML tools (which support code round-trip; a great EA feature). And I really don't regret it!

Have fun,
Stefan

Has there been any progress on this? Where can we get a glimpse at the stuff that will be treated or bugfixed?!?

How would one scale up the image in version 7.1? Thanks.
From Build 831, go to Tools | Options | Diagram, and set 'Scale Saved Bitmaps to'.

Hi,

I've a problem with this... I exported a diagram without the scaling. The saved bitmap was filled from top left to bottom right.

Then I set the scaling to 400% and saved the diagram... which then only was printed into the top left corner of the saved bitmap... the rest of the bitmap was empty...

The size of the bitmap did not change... in both cases it was 5195x2307 pixels.

Is there any way to bypass this stupid "cut into pages" thing and implement a straightforward "save to bitmap" as anyone working in the business would expect it?!? It's one of the features that would be the most interesting when you don't want to pass EALite to your clients and simply send them a jpg with the entire diagram in a clearly readable manner...

Have fun,
Stefan

Hi,

I looked into this, but I don't think that this is what I need. I got the impression that this is more a printer setup (to trigger how the "working plane" is mapped to an A4 page). Perhaps I simply should put a feature request and see what the guys of sparx systems tell me :)

Have fun,
Stefan

Hi,

thanks for the replies and sorry that I come back so lately on this. I've been on my easter vacations :)

Unfortunately, this is not what I meant. I'm not talking about the view itself. I know that you can zoom this. What I'm talking about is the "working plane" itself. Imagine you have a lot of classes and they are all aligned on the top of your view. The width of the "working plane" is quite big. Now you move your classes around and you get some empty space on the right of your "working plane". How can you reduce your "working plane" to get rid of the empty space on the right?

Hope this explains what I mean...

General Board / Diagram view resize
« on: March 19, 2008, 09:05:48 pm »
Hi,

I've searched through the docs and in this forum but I didn't find any information about this:

I have created a diagram and during the setup the view has grown. Once I had added all my classes, I moved them around. The result is that the diagram itself only takes 50% of the entire diagram view. Means I can drag the view in the "Pan & Zoom" Panel in a way that my classes are not in view anymore.

Is there a way to resize the pan & zoom area of the diagram?

Thanks,
Stefan

Bugs and Issues / Re: C++ typedef not recognized and deleted attribu

Good evening,

well... UAC was the first thing I turned off once I installed Vista :) I tried to reinstall both EA and the Integration but it did not help.

I have taken a look at the ocx with an dependency walker but all linked DLLs seem to load fine.

Is there some kind of log file in the EA install dir where I can see why this error occurs?

Just as a question: Is there any problem that might occur because this functionionality (Addins->visual studio->view project connections) does not work properly?`

Problem n°2 has been solved by the support team. Thanks... your solution works like a charm!

EDIT: I just browsed through the website and stumbled upon the ;DG Link for Visual Studio Page. The version # stated in there is 2.5 ("Download VSBridge.exe ( 3.5 MB ) (Version: 2.5 ) to experience [...]"). I also took a look at the Add-Ins->Visual Studio->About box and there a version of 2.4.0 is stated...

Thanks for your help,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

In regards to your third problem, I've been running EA + VS 2005 Integration under Vista without any problems in the office. Are you running a 64-bit version of Vista?

Also is MSCOMCTL.OCX registered? Try copying the file to c:\Windows\System32 and registering the file by typing

c:\Windows\System32> regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx

Hi,

shame on me I relied on the Vista file search :-[ Obviously it ignores system files under System32... I found a version of that file in my Vista Windows/System32 folder. I also did a refsvr32 on it (just to be sure) but the error still occurs.

I'm running a 32-bit version of Vista...

Perhaps this is due to the fact that I use eval versions and not registered versions?

Thanks for your help,
Stefan

Hi,

I've already send these bugs via the trial bug report. Also, I'm using the VS2005 integration (against VS2005 not VS2008 ;) ).

I don't suppose that this is an execution problem. Everything else on my machine runs without problems.

Perhaps something went wrong during installation, although I didn't get any error message. I just searched for 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' on my machine and I have found one... in my XSI 6.01 installation   :-/ So yes... it must be missing in their VS2005 integration...

Thanks for your reply,
Stefan

A 3rd problem:

I'm also using the EA integration to VS2005. If I open an EA instance from within VS2005 (right mouse click on the diagram -> "Open enterprise architect") and then I select "Add-Ins"->"Visual Studio"->"View Project Connections", I get this error message:

"An error occurred while attempting to communicate with an Addin:

Visual Studio (EAVSBridge.EAVSAddin)

"EA_MenuClick: Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

Please contact the add-in provide for assistance."

I'm working under Vista, VS2005 and VS2008 on a parallel installation.

Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks,
Stefan

Bugs and Issues / C++ typedef not recognized and deleted attributes
« on: February 26, 2008, 08:22:08 am »
Hi,

I'm currently evaluating Enterprise Architect to see if it fits my needs of C++ round-trip UMLing. So far, it's the best software package I've seen. Yet, there are some problems that I have posted to the trial user bug report but I didn't get any feedback. Perhaps you folks in this forum can "help" me or just confirm my observations.

Problem 1:

I have a typedef of this form:

typedef unsigned long long Index;

If I syncronize the model with the code (or import the source from a dir on an initial EA project setup), the typedef will not show up.

If I generate the code, the typedef disappears. The "Index" is still used as a function return value, but any code that uses the "Index" will be deleted.

The initial code:

    inline Index getFloormapIndex(int _x, int _y) {
                return Index( (static_cast<Index>(_x) & 0xffffffff) << 32 | (static_cast<Index>(_y) & 0xffffffff) );
          };

The code after "Generate code":

    inline Index getFloormapIndex(int _x, int _y) {
                return NULL;
          };

Now, some strange stuff: If I readd the "typedef unsigned long long Index;" and I change the "unsigned long long" to "int" ("typedef int Index;"), a "sync model with code" will show the typedef. I rechange the "int" to "unsigned long long", "sync model with code" then "generate code" again, I will have 2 (!) typedefs. One with int and one with unsigned long long. :-?

2nd problem:

I have an attribute "int m_a;", I delete it within the UML then I "generate code": The "int m_a;" changes to "int *m_a;". That pointer is not displayed in the class UML. I do an "sync model with code", the pointer appears. I manually remove the pointer from my header and do a "sync model with code" -> the pointer disappears from the class UML.

Now the strange thing: If I "generate code", the pointer shows up again ?!? :o

Thanks for your help,
Stefan
