Suggestions and Requests / Requirements Heirarchy
« on: March 15, 2005, 01:20:45 pm »
Provide the ability to automatically tag requirements so they can be easily identified by reference later. These could be by heirarchy or relative to naming template that could be created as the tagging method.

Thank you!

General Board / Links within EA
« on: September 23, 2002, 04:34:58 pm »
Does anyone know if there is a way to create a link between two different folders or two different anything. Ultimately when using the HTML out documentation it would be great to define the ability to point from one thing to another within the tool.

I know you can point to any URL by using the "HyperLink Details". But it won't point at anything within the EA environment. At least I couldn't find it.

If anyone knows how to do this or if there are plans to implement, that would be great to know as well.

Thanks

Dennis

General Board / Displaying URL's in RTF
« on: October 02, 2002, 03:11:05 pm »
I put URL hyperlinks in several of the "Files" tabs.

Does anyone know if you can display those URL's in the RTF documentation file?

I tried the "External Hyperlinks" check on the Rich Text Format Report, but nothing came out from that.

Thanks in Advance!

General Board / HTML Output question
« on: May 31, 2002, 06:12:04 pm »
Is there a way to include the "message Properties" that are connected to a relationship between to objects to come out in the HTML document?

This is in a collaboration document where I am showing the message names as they are initated by one object to another. This would be extremely useful since virtually everything else comes out.

thanks in advance!

General Board / Help! Project Browser Disappeared
« on: May 09, 2002, 03:15:14 pm »
Anyone,

my Project Browser has disappeared and I can't get to come back, so I can't access my project. It is the same with all of the projects, including the example one.

I have tried clicking on the button in the tool bar and nothing happens.

I have unloaded EA and reloaded, updated to the latest rev. NOTHING! I'm sure it is something simple, but I sure can't find it!  ???

Please help!

Thanks in advance!

Geoff

Thanks, it was the second one, "Specify Feature Visibility". I don't know how they got turned off. I don't remember turning them off, but who knows. I turned them back on, that fixed it!

thanks again!

General Board / Interface Lost
« on: March 26, 2002, 08:50:54 am »
I created a component diagram and put components in it WITH interfaces. I created a second component diagram, copied links of the components from previous to new and I lost the interfaces that show up in the first one. Any idea why I would have lost the interfaces on the second diagram? I have a third diagram with virtually identical components, all links and the interfaces show up fine!;-)

Any and all help appreciated!

Dennis Todd

PS. EA is a great product! This is just a personal endorsement, but i have also got several of my colleagues now using it!

General Board / Sequence Diagram Method Changing
« on: February 12, 2002, 12:53:36 pm »
The latest version of EA 4.60, I used to be able to change the source and/or destinations of the Method by right clicking and then select "Set Message Scope" and change the source and/or destination. Now, when I select a NEW source or destination, it seems to be "one off". I can get it to work, I just have to pick the "wrong" source or destination to get the one I REALLY want.

Maybe a New feature?

General Board / Re: Opinions wanted about Tracking Issues
« on: January 24, 2002, 09:41:17 am »
I would like to see the issues have the option of tying them to a specific thing. Maybe there is a way I didn't see. But I view issues having a direct connection potentially with any element in the system. Writing issues is one thing, having it tied directly to the class, usecase, scenario, component whatever has even more meaning. It is easier for me to establish responsibility. So If I have any diagram open, and I want to attach an issue, another possible tab on the properties would be "Issues". Then I can track them exactly with that specific element. The project mgr could ask for all issues. Or all issues associated with a UseCase and all of it's relationship objects, etc.

General Board / Scenario Tables in RTF Doc
« on: February 01, 2002, 04:54:53 pm »
It is not necessarily a big thing, but when a scenario diagram comes out of the RTF Doc, the table that is produced only has Headers on the first page.

Just wondering if that could be fixed?

Thanks!

General Board / Re: Sequence Diagram RTF Documentation
« on: January 24, 2002, 04:20:50 pm »
That would be great! The main thing to me is the ability to display all of the information that is contained on the individual tabs that are in the properties, similiar to what you do with any other element, such as UseCases, Activity diagrams, Analysis diagrams, etc. Having all of that available for documentation would be key for ME anyway!

Thanks for your consideration Geoff!

General Board / Sequence Diagram RTF Documentation
« on: January 24, 2002, 12:15:42 pm »
I tried to document an object, boundary or any component in a Sequence Diagram and then see the notes and other information come out of the RTF document. None of it is produced. Is this normal? Not being able to show that information in the document is a real minus.

I think that is important to have it there. Unless I am missing how to access or display it in the RTF document. All of the checks are on but Changes and Defects.

Can you comment on that? Thanks!

General Board / Re: EA Document Generation
« on: January 24, 2002, 06:49:40 am »
I guess in response to your request for consense, I would still go back to my original suggestion.

I understand your position here as far as a good general setup. My recommendation would be to allow us to build some sort of template ourselves that gives us some control. This expands on your current template concept. So now when I ask for a template, it allows me to define what I want, where and in what order. If I have a UseCase and it uses other UseCases and it obviously has subelements of Classes, Scenarios, relationships, they appear in, etc., then let me give you that template to build the order from, also where to put the graphs, etc. You obviously have a bunch of Objects in the tool that can all be accessed by their type etc., so let us take advantage of that fact, create the document that way.

Having the template capability with structural control of the Document would get you, the creator out from deciding on how it should be laid out, and give us that control. Take advantage of what you have defined and take it a step further in the template concept. I think you would get a very positive response from that. If that works?! Maybe even use your "WorkSpace" to define the structure! Let us order any element that is available in the order we choose!

Hope that helps!

General Board / EA Document Generation
« on: January 23, 2002, 10:02:47 am »
I wondered how easy it would be to have the RTF documents that are generated by the system, to be organized in a different structure. I create a folder to contain each UseCase, under that are other folders that manages each scenario that I document both with text in the scenario description and in an Activity Diagram. Is there anyway to put the diagrams at the beginning of the document and then present the Activity Diagram followed by the description of the individual steps that are outlined in the Activity Diagram. Unfortunately, having things in alphabetical order makes the organization of the document hard to understand.

Or another suggestion for a good template, I have followed Geri Schneider and Jason Winters examples in their book "Applying Use Cases". Their System Documents, UseCase Documents and Scenario Document Templates at http://books.txt.com and click on "templates" gives you there examples. Those work really well from a organization stand point. Or maybe there is a way for me to build my own template.

This maybe harder than I realize to do, but thought I would at least suggest it.
