General Board / Importing Swim lanes from Visio
« on: April 14, 2016, 05:52:26 pm »
Dear members, does anyone know a solution for importing pools and swim lanes from Visio into EA v 12? When I tried it they arrive in EA as Boundaries. This is worse than visio because for example making the text vertical is not possible etc. Thanks

To help create object description, requirements and so on. Whilst typing the text matching popups appear as suggestions from the glossary. Re-use definitions and concepts rather than re-inventing nouns.

While I am here do you know how I can make the contents of the Glossary popup when I am filling in definition in the various objects in EA. A sort of suggestion word that matches to the word you are typing for example if I type Acc the Account pops up? Is this a feature in EA?

Thanks again.

Derek

Awesome, took me a while to understand it was nothing to do with the import facility in EA. Nice work Geert :O)

Hi all, and Geert, I have the eaexcelimporter from Geert but cannot work out how to import my glossary to the EA model. Does anyone have a simple cook book of instructions. When I run the import csv option it says it was successful but where the glossary went I have no idea. How do I assign the imported glossary information to the actual glossary property file?

Hi Roy thanks for your input. The process you describe is for creating a new child diagram. What I really want to do is re-use an existing child diagram as a common process in many parents. So the option in version 12 to choose a composite child is not possible in version 9?

Thanks

Sorry I was getting a bit desperate :O)

Hi,  Does anyone know how to use the 'Select composite diagram' that is available in version 12 in version 9? I am in the process of upgrading but need to use child diagram for BPMN is several level 1 processes or Activities. Its very unclear in v 9 how to achieve this. So in Summary I need a Many to one relationship between Parents and a child process model. Thanks

Thanks Stefan,, I am using version 9 at the moment. I see your advice works in version 12. How do I achieve the same in 9 until I upgrade?

Dear members, I tried making a BPMN model from level 1 to 3 but it was not obvious to me the best way to create child diagrams when the child is used in multiple processes as a child owned by many parents. I find hyperlinks rather clumsy. Is there a smarter way to do is so I can for example just click on a process and immediately go to the child diagram (Used in many places).

Thanks Helmut, we will be using a repository based solution so the user access on a multi user repository should be ok?

Anyway sounds like less than a GB should be ok?

Thanks

Dear Members, does anyone know the average size (MB/GB) of a 30 user repository database?

We are setting one up and want to cater for some growth over the coming years.

Kind regards

Dear EA Users, I find editing the RTF templates rather cumbersome and time consuming. Does anyone have any nice templates for UML models and BPMN 2 models. Nothing too fancy but the basics, Diagrams, definitions and data formats and so on. The available templates produce so much unnecessary detail and I find it had to find what I want.

Thanks in advance.
