Suggestions and Requests / Notes linked to Operations / Attributes
« on: June 04, 2003, 09:24:05 am »
Hi,

This is a really trivial request, but one that would be most welcome, nonetheless.

I'm a big fan of the Link Note To Element Feature functionality within EA. However, there is one slight niggle I have with it... When you link to an Operation or Attribute of a class, the Operation or Attribute name is shown at the top of the note using the same font as the note itself.

Would it be possible to emphasise (maybe italicise or embolden) the operation or attribute name? It would make the notes a little more clear...

A bit pedantic, I know!

Cheers anyway

General Board / Importing XML Schema (XSD)
« on: April 15, 2004, 04:46:23 am »
Hi,

Does anyone know whether EA can reverse-engineer XSD? I know you can generate XSD from a package so I was expecting to be able to go the other way.

Haven't found anything yet, though...

OK. Anyone who wants a copy emailed to them, can you email me at i.turner@syzygy.net and I'll mail you back...

The installer will also give you the source code so feel free to muck about with it as much as possible.

I'm too busy with work to do any more on it, I'm afraid. If someone wants to take up ownership / hosting, you are more than welcome.

Cheers

It's not hosted anywhere at the moment - I can mail it to you if you like...

A slightly updated version of the .NET Exporter has been uploaded. This correctly exports the xml for interfaces and access modifiers. It should also install without requiring .NET 1.1

You probably need to remove the default library branch of the tree. Xml will be generated for whatever is in the tree, not just individual libraries. (The libraries are there just so that you can seperate the packages a bit in EA).

By the way, I've done a bit more testing and there are two problems with the Exporter tool. The first is that Interfaces are being imported as normal classes, and the second is that some of the modifiers (abstract, static etc.) are not being set.

I'm working on getting these fixed and a new version uploaded (hopefully within the next day or two).

It is version 1.1.4322 which I assumed was the RTM release when I got it from the MSDN subscription. What is the error, anyway?

Hi,

I've written a quick WinForms app that can export .NET Assemblies in the format used by the EA importer.

http://iturner100.brinkster.net/freebies/Genista29.DotnetExporterForEA.Installer.zip

It constains an msi that installs the app and the source code as well, so you can fix / change it however you want. It's had hardly any testing but should work ok...

It was built on .NET 1.1 but doesn't use anything that can't be done with .NET 1.0.

There is no help so... The main form is a tree view with Library Nodes and Assembly Nodes. The library nodes will become the basic packages in EA. So, by default you get a single library (.NET Framework) with some of the standard assemblies under that.

You can add libraries and assemblies, rename libraries, drag and drop assemblies and delete libraries and assemblies.

Once you've set up the tree, you can generate the XML file - it can take a little while if you've added lots of assemblies.

It will prompt for where you want to save the generated xml.

Hope it helps all the .NETers out there!

General Board / Model Task Types and Statuses values
« on: July 23, 2003, 04:56:10 am »
Hi,

Is there any way to change the values for the type and status attributes of a Model Task (either through EA itself or directly into the repository)?

We've switched to managing all issue logs etc. in EA and this is one of the areas of concern for our Project Management team.

Also, are there any plans to improve the filtering, export and printing of these lists so that they are more flexible?

General Board / Re: Import Project Root
« on: May 29, 2003, 05:33:03 am »
Thanks. I've just downloaded 612 so I'll give it a try. I previously was using 610 and this wasn't exhibiting the behaviour you mentioned. However, I notice in the release notes for 611 that there was a bug with creating project roots so maybe that has something to do with it.

General Board / Import Project Root
« on: May 29, 2003, 04:37:37 am »
Hi,

Is there anyway to import into a Project Root?

What I'm trying to do is this: We have an EA Model with multiple project roots for the various phases of a project we are working on. Each Project Root should contain a standard set of packages that we use (a sort of template).

It seems possible to export a complete EA model, and import into a new EA model. It also seems possible to export packages below a project root (using Package Control) and import those into other packages.

However, I can see no way of Export a project root and importing it into another project root.

Is this possible and, if so, how is it done?

General Board / Re: Copying Operations and Attributes
« on: January 23, 2003, 04:24:49 am »
Thanks!

One fairly insignificant side-effect I've noticed (when using the Enterprise product with Require User Lock To Edit enabled and a SQL Server back-end) is that the copied attribute or operation is locked-out by default even if the class you drop onto is not. You can then only delete the attribute or opertation through the class properties - not the Project Explorer...

Still, very trivial so who cares!

Is there any way of copying an operation or attribute from one class to another?

I know you can move them using the Project Explorer but I haven't found a way to copy...

General Board / Visual notification of user locks
« on: December 17, 2002, 05:51:11 am »
Hi,

In security mode 2 (user-locks) is there any way to see what elements are locked/unlocked to you or other users?

Something like the tree node icon adornments used with source control systems would be really nice!

General Board / Events in C# classes/code
« on: October 21, 2002, 04:44:51 am »
How do I add an event declaration to a (C#) class?

Essentially, what I want in my generated code is something along the lines of

using System;

public class SomeClass
{
   public SomeClass() {}

   public event EventHandler Changed;

   public void OnChanged()
   {
       // do some stuff here
   }
}

I've tried reverse-engineering this and it adds an attribute of type event named EventHandler to the class. I'm assuming that if the reverse engineering doesn't work then there is no forward-engineering support for event, either. Would that be correct?

Are there any other ways of representing events?

Cheers
Ian
