General Board / Re: Zicom Mentor - Anybody buy it?
« on: February 16, 2003, 02:15:44 am »
I purchased it because I believe it will help me explain things when sitting next to a client discussing what all the "pretty pictures" actually mean.

I found it to be a quick and handy reference to the UML symbols and diagrams.  There are some symbols that I don't use very much and so, its nice to have a reference to it.  Its is extremely well organized and frankly makes good use of visual presentation coupled with textual information.  And, it is color blind friendly (thank goodness).

Simply put:  Buy it.

I had some wierdness with the key as well.  I installed the new build and that went fine.  I then decided now was the time to upgrade to corporate and received a key via the registration service.  That key did not work.  I contacted Geoff who was nice enough to send me a new key and I did an uninstall and fresh install of corporate and that worked.

Today, I was configuring a SQL server database and ended up not getting the project treeview which I found very strange.  I wondered if I needed to enter the key again for each new SQL server database I created and so, I took the key that Geoff sent me and entered it.  It told me it was an invalid key.  Then for grins and giggle I tried the first key sent to me from the registration service and that didn't work.

Finally, since it seemed that the registration failed, I chanced to look at the "About" box and there was a key I had never seen before.  I cut and pasted that into the registration dialog and it *worked*.  Very Very strange.

Hi Andy,

Does Auto-counters (Reference|Configure Auto counters) not work for you in your situation?

Thanks,
Dave

General Board / Re: Delphi Generated Code
« on: February 16, 2003, 02:24:34 am »
Hi,

Like most modeling tools, EA cannot generate DFM's because DFM's are not really an "artifact" of code.  Simply put, the DFM is a database (very loosely termed) of property settings for the instances of the components contained on forms and datamodules.

To fix the scope clauses, try using DelFor which is by far the best code formatter for Delphi.  Google is your friend.

Yes, the automation object is currently the only way to get access to EA.  You could go directly against the database, however, I do not recommend this.   With regards to the function of the automation, I'm not sure its possible to customize the code generation.  Though, I'm sure you can use the automation to write your own generator.  Again, I'm not sure this is very useful to you at this point.

Thanks,
Dave

General Board / EAToolkit

I wanted to check out EAToolkit however, the web site (www.world-eit.com) has gone AWOL.  Is there an alternate download and info site?

Also, I'm interested in how to create plugins for EA, not just automate it.  Any direction that someone can give me would be most appreciated.
