General Board / Re: Deployment diagram / Relationship matrix

I have both "Use stereotype icons" and "Instance has classifier style" activated, and I still don't get the correct shapes.

So, this suggests that I create a library of nodes and components, which in itself is fine, however when I drag instances on to the diagram they do not display with the proper shapes for 'node' and 'component' - instead, they use a generic 'object' shape.

How do you get round this so that your deployment diagrams have the correct shapes?

Mikkel,

Thanks for your reply.

This only seems to work for me if I use instances of components, rather than the components themselves. This does not really suit what I am doing, as a lot of the components do not have instance names with which I can identify them, so I am dragging the components rather than instances of them onto the deployment diagram.

General Board / Deployment diagram / Relationship matrix
« on: October 14, 2002, 03:46:10 am »
Hi,

I have a deployment diagram containing a node, into which I have dragged several components from the component view. When I move the node, the contained components also move, so I know that EA recognises some sort of link between them. However, I can't find any way of showing this link in the relationship matrix.

Is there a way to do this? It would be really useful for us in modelling our environments and being able to show in matrix form where components are deployed.

Thanks in advance,

Hi everyone, hope the EA community all had a good Christmas.

We have just upgraded our 25 installations to Corporate Edition, and would now like to switch on security for a model. EA prompts me to enter my licence key, and here lies the problem. Our copies of EA are installed by a separate desktop team, who don't have a record of which key belongs to which machine.

So my question is, is there any way of finding my registration key without me having to type in up to 25 keys from a list, and then visit each other PC to do the same to identify their keys from the (hopefully diminishing) list.

Many thanks, and happy new year.

General Board / Oracle / EA 3.50 - any update?
« on: December 09, 2002, 05:30:28 am »
Geoff / Paul,

Can you give us any update on when EA 3.50 will support Oracle as the repository (and which versions of Oracle it will support)?

Thanks,

Hi,

Did anyone make any progress with this?

Thanks,

I think what Mago is referring to is a free version of EA with reduced functionality. The idea is to allow people to make use of the tool, even if they can't justify paying for the full version. The benefit is that a lot of users will probably extend their use of UML over time, realise they need the full version and purchase it.

This model is employed by quite a few vendors such as Sun (Sun ONE Studio - Java development tool) and Gentleware (Poseidon - UML CASE tool), and seems to be quite effective.

In the case of EA, it could perhaps be a case of extending EALite to have minimal diagram creation facilities, eg just Use Case and Class diagrams...

Quick question for the Sparx chaps, do you have plans to make EA 3.50 Corporate Edition support Oracle 8i as the back end repository?

Oracle is our coporate standard, so EA would need to support it for us to be able to use the repository feature.

General Board / Applying stereotype to composition (profiles)
« on: June 11, 2002, 04:37:37 am »
When using profiles, what is the correct typeto apply a stereotype to in order to apply it to a composition?

I have tried 'composition', 'composite', and 'compose' but this doesn't work.

Thanks,

Stephen

Ok...

Tried the stereotypes which used the metafiles in a new clean model, and the metafiles were still displayed. Seems like they are being persisted somewhere.

I'm not sure I like the idea of removing built in stereotypes, but I had a go anyway:

Removed my profile, and the <<table>> stereotype.

Imported my profile  - References/Stereotypes shows 'Table'

Dragged a table onto the diagram. The class was still displayed with no stereotype and the icon, rather than with the stereotype <<Table>> and no icon.

On looking at the properties, the stereotype was 'table', not 'Table'.

Works fine for server...

I'm not sure I like the idea of having to delete a load of built in stereotypes before importing a profile. Could EA highlight clashes via a dialog on import and give the option to overwrite individual or all clashes?

As ever, many thanks for your time.

Stephen

Continuing from the above, even if you add tagged values manually they do not appear on the diagram. The only thing I can get to appear on an association is the first constraint. This could be a problem since some profiles require the application of tagged values to associations, but currently these are not visible in the diagrams (and hence the exported documentation).

Also, I've noticed that tagged values on nodes appear in the format
{
Tagged value
}

rather than in a compartment, and they appear whether they have a value or not. Is this intentional, and if so could it be changed to a compartment or suppressed in some way? I thin it would be worth doing so there is a consistent approach across classes, components and nodes.

Thanks again,

Stephen
