Suggestions and Requests / Re: Request: Undo/Redo enhance!
« on: March 17, 2004, 08:44:22 am »
I had visited all pages of your website last week. As I  am planning to go for my MSc and perhaps PHD in Germany and I am learning Deutsch very seriously it was very interesting to me.

I will contact you later for advice on chosing the university later if I am not bothering.

Mac

angel-o-sphere,

Learned a lot from your post :)

I was thinking about these yeasterday so your post was very interesting. Thank you.

But again it seems we will need to have redesign of some parts. As program is being developed using MFC and VC++ I think it will not be very easy. But as I told later I think Sparx will need to do it at a time.

I wish they can manage to do so in next few versions.

Thank you again.

Yes, now that I think it will be very hard to change things because of the Jet DB file.

But isn't it possible to queue some actions in memory and then save them to database at specific times (i.e saving etc.) ? Though I know a big change of architecture will be needed and it would not be possible quickly.

I think this should happen at a time but as I told later I am overally very happy with the product (more more than rational).

And yes , when I work with rational I need to put 30% of my mind on Rational's UI. (To prevent problems happening now or later).

At the time being I'd like to see some more automation like conversion of sequence diagram to collaboration (rational does it for a while) etc.

I also like to see some improvements in code engineering (toward a more professional thing) . It will be great if we can constantly work on code and model and have them in sunc with each other (specifically I am thinking about C# and PHP myself).

Yes, I am not happy with unexpected saves.

You delete something and think if you do not save the file it will not be in file but later you see you have been wrong, everything has been applied to database file at the same moment.

These 2 things are among the rare problems I have seen in EA.

Overally I rarely see problems with EA.

Hello,

Yes I wanted to post the same thread you did. I also will be happy to see more complete support of PHP. This will help me to consider EA more seriously for my PHP projects (60% of my projects).

In fact I initialy came toward EA because of it's PHP support. (then Delphi and C#).

After a while I saw I have dropped Rational Rose and I am working with EA most of the time (I feel more more comfortable with EA and I can concentrate on job itself instead of dealing with UI's problems).

I also think lot of people will be interested in EA's PHP support.

A while back there was a discussion on Case Tools supporting PHP on PHPPatterns website and they only knew a single (lot lot more expensive tool) for generating PHP codes. Then I posted a small note on EA. But a better article with details will be able to attract more developers , especially with great price of EA.

Suggestions and Requests / EA 4.0 Feedback
« on: March 03, 2004, 09:53:03 am »
Hello

Just downloaded 4BETA2. I have not worked very much with it but I like UI changes.

1- Initial dialog box of EA3.6 has gone and a those functions are now implemented on the background of main start page which I like very much (in fact I was going to ask if it is possible to make the initial dialog box optional.

2- Page Tabs: Great. But I have a few minor critics. First of all It would be better to have safe choices at the bottom of the context menu. One may click on "Close All" by mistake most of the time.

Also I personally prefer square corners for tabs instead of current round corner (we do not have a round corner in anywhere else in the UI neither in VStudio.NET).

3- I was looking for a PHP code generation settings page but there was none.

Anyway again I am very happy with EA , specially new UML 2.0 support.

Regards,
Mac

General Board / Re: Forum organisation
« on: March 12, 2004, 07:20:33 am »
Great to see that Sparx monitors forum posts. This ensures us that they get our feedback on different things and will do something about them if possible.

1- I also think we need a "Code Engineering" forum. I am also interested in a "Methodologies" forum in which we can speak about RUP, Agile etc. issues.

2- If it was possible to upgrade to a more powerful forum software such as InvisionBoard (also free) or vBulletin it would be great.

Yesterday I was trying to post soething but everytime forum software did not show the normal text correctly (some parts of the text were missing and some text were showing that were not in my text. I searched those text and did not found them in my text!!!) I tried to edit the text but I saw it has saved my text correctly and it just messes it up when showing.

Let me thank Sparx as a satisfied customer. I wish greater success for you.

General Board / Reusing some diagrams in other projects
« on: August 23, 2004, 12:39:44 am »
Hello,

I wanted to know if it is possible to reuse some digrams in new projects. I mean is it possible to do something like copy/paste between 2 projects?

It seems we are not able to do this between 2 instances of EA which have openned two different projects.

It is really hard to recreate state diagrams and some others for generic modules like "Login, ..." every time.

Mac
