General Board / Re: Haeder and Footer in printed Diagram
« on: January 01, 2002, 04:46:51 am »
Hello,

We will add this request to our todo list, however this may take a little time to introduce into EA.  Thanks for the feedback.

General Board / Re: auto layout query
« on: January 01, 2002, 04:30:47 am »
Hello,

Although the UML definition does not state whether association should cross, it is preferrable that they do not.  The auto layout feature in EA will not take this into account (it simply arranges the objects by relationships) and it must be a manual process fix any problems.  Hope this answers your question.

Hello,

We will have to put a lot of thought into this request, at the moment everything in EA assumes that there is only one diagram.  We will see what can be included in a future release.

« on: December 26, 2001, 02:53:28 am »
Hello,

You have not done anything wrong, currently EA does not support this behaviour.  We will look at including this in a future version of EA.  However the main downside to this will be that the loading of diagrams will slow down, because EA will be required to do more complex queries on its database.

Hello,

This should be easy enough to include into EA.  We will look at doing this in a future version.  Thanks for the feedback.

General Board / Re: Add Stereotype to Stateflow in Business Model
« on: December 26, 2001, 02:34:34 am »
hello,

To create a new stereotype for stateflows you must enter 'flow' in the "Applies To" field.  We will try and get the documentation (help files etc) updated to reflect this information, as soon as possible.

General Board / Re: model size limitation
« on: December 17, 2001, 01:13:08 am »
Hello,

In short, Yes MS Access can cope with large files (within limits of course).  We have seen MS access files (not EA projects) over 100Mb in size and still working correctly.  Personally the largest EA project we have work with was about 30Mb, with no noticeable loss in speed.

I don't know how familiar you are with MS Access, but just in case.  It is a good idea to compact any MS Access database periodically just to remove any unused space.  EA has a 'Compact Project' menu item under Admin.  Just make sure you backup the file before doing the compact, just to be sure.

Hope this helps.

General Board / Re: Reverse Engineering C++
« on: December 19, 2001, 02:52:22 am »
Hi,

Typedefs are not handled correctly at the moment - we will add some code to ignore the typedef line in the short term to prevent too many erros on reversing. This will be in the next build. In the longer term, we will be adding support for enums and typedefs early in the new year. The error on the scope resoultion operator '::' we will look into as well. Hope this helps - check back next week for the interim fix and early in January for the other.

General Board / Re: Displaying the name of ancestor class
« on: December 19, 2001, 02:51:13 am »
Hi,

We will be looking at adding ancestors and implements references early in the new year - much the same as you suggest. I would expect the behaviour to be there by end of January at the latest.

General Board / Re: UI TabControl (page control) Sterotype
« on: December 18, 2001, 04:57:23 am »
Hi,

Currently EA doesn't include support for a Tab control, there is nothing stopping you from typing in "tabcontrol" into the combobox.  However the object drawn will only be a standard rectangle.  Because a 2 dimensional diagram can only display one tab at a time, in the past I have drawn a number of panels next to each other and added comments to describe the actually way the screen is intended to work.

I way make a note to add support for the stereotype of Tab, however this will not overcome the problem of displaying multiple tabs in a diagram.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi,

I will make a note of this and try and get a fix into EA as soon as possible.  Thanks for the feedback.

General Board / Re: Package Sorting
« on: December 16, 2001, 01:56:22 am »
Hello,

The Sort option was implemented prior to the new ability to manually position items in a package and had not been revisted since.  After considering the options, the menu item has been changed to 'Reset Sort Order' for current package.  This will remove the manual positioning in a package and resort everything into alphabetic order by element type.  This will be available in the next minor update (within the next 7 days) - and for registered users will be available as an interim minor build.

General Board / Re: Data models - associations as foreign keys
« on: December 13, 2001, 04:01:03 am »
Hello,

I am not sure I understand your question.  A foreign key definition consists of a primary key (operation of stereotype PK) on table 1, a foreign key (operation of stereotype FK) and a connector joining the two table.

We have written a PDF on the subject of creating foreign keys, you can download a copy of it from:  http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/bin/DatabaseModelingInUML.pdf .

If the definition of a foreign key is not correct then the DDL generated from EA will be missing the foreign key information.

I don't know if any of this information helps, but I hope so.

General Board / Re: Enforcing method names/ automatic add
« on: December 13, 2001, 04:23:48 am »
Hello,

Thanks for your positive comments about EA.  As for the level of automation in EA, this is a feature we are yet to development, apart from what you have already pointed out.  We take your point and we can see the benefits and we will see what can be added in future releases.  Thanks for the feedback.

General Board / Re: Set Tag functionality
« on: December 08, 2001, 03:10:11 am »
Hello,

The purpose of the little red triangle is to provide a visual prompt to you.  In the past we have used it on objects that are marked for deletion or require some kind of action performed on them.

You can use this tagged status on the object search screen, search for Tagged, Not Tagged and Both.

We are actually planning to change the name of 'Tagged' to something more meaningful.  An object can have a status of Tagged, it also can have tagged values and finally there is a tag field.  So in all, tag is used too offen, we are looking at reducing the confusion in this matter for a future version.

Hope this helps.
