Suggestions and Requests / extended referencing capability
« on: November 10, 2005, 06:13:51 am »
EA 6.0 added "Connecting to a class for which you know the GUID" feature - I propose to go further and add to reference elements by their reference (reference name uniqueness will be user's responsebility), for example:

class
{
   name="classA"       %TRANSFORM_REFERENCE("reference_to_classA")%
  ...
}

then then creating connectors:
dependency
{
....
source
{
   "reference_to_classA"
}
}

reference name syntax could be in other forms, but this capability would greatly improve build-in EA transforming capabilities

Hope to see this feature ASAP

Suggestions and Requests / Naming save diagram image to file
« on: August 11, 2005, 01:29:36 pm »

EA could offer package's name as the diagram image file name when saving - right now there is only *.image_type

Suggestions and Requests / stereotype icon bug
« on: July 07, 2005, 10:44:01 am »

set class stereotype to form (as example) and set, that parent for this class (through the advanced features on right mouse click) - stereotype icon resides in the same area as parent and almost fully covers it

this occures only if diagram uses stereotype icons

Suggestions and Requests / Missing fragment style
« on: December 13, 2004, 04:33:21 am »
there is missing reference "ref" fragment style in the sequence diagrams.
There are "alt", "opt" & etc, but "ref" is missing

Suggestions and Requests / Association control
« on: December 01, 2004, 01:07:32 pm »
there must be better control over the association positioning.
If setting line style to the auto routing, there is no way to control line parts, so there is no way to paint such picture:
    ******
 ->*           *
|   ******
|
|
|  ******
->*           *
    ******

General Board / sequence diagram self message
« on: July 09, 2008, 06:07:30 pm »
is it possible to draw self message in sequence diagram without recursion icon?

now self-message and recursion looks the same, however they shouldn't

btw, there have vanished Paolo (tm) from these forums?

General Board / EA 6.5 performance under Win98SE
« on: October 11, 2006, 08:23:14 am »
Recently I have noticed, that EA 6.5 (797 & 798 builds) performance under Win98SE OS degradated. I mean, that visual EA response is noticable - that wasn't in effect untill 6.5 version. Another observation is, that part of EA startups are invisible - EA is running, process list shows it, however there is no window, so I can't use it. Only solution is to kill process and start EA again.
I'm not sure, do I have to report this behaviour as a bug.Also, I would like to get other users responces, who use EA 6.5 under Win98SE OS - did they encounter similar behaviour.

EA 6.1 worked like a charm - there wasn't such problems as with the 6.5 version

General Board / OMG's tool approval

Question to Sparxians - is EA approval is considered in near future?

Heh, certification in the Unisys state-of-the-art UML laboratory ;D

General Board / About TRANSFORM_REFERENCE
« on: September 29, 2005, 05:20:37 am »
I need more clear TRANSFORM_REFERENCE description:

Quote

Finding the transformed class to synchronise with.

what if class is created in transformation (there was no such class before transformation? about what synchronisation is taking about (code generation; MDA transformation)?

Quote

Creating connectors between transformed classes.

there 3 this macro calls while creating connectors - it should be enough 2 (for source & target); why there is a need for the connector?

Quote

Determining where to transform to for future transformations.

[/quote]
where means inside which entity?

what does this macro?
Code: [Select]

Dependency
{
 %TRANSFORM_REFERENCE("EJBRealizeHome",classGUID)%
 stereotype="EJBRealizeHome"
 Source
 {
   %TRANSFORM_REFERENCE("EJBEntityBean",classGUID)%
 }
 Target
 {
 %TRANSFORM_REFERENCE("EJBHomeInterface",classGUID)%
 }
}

what is the purpose of macro in this example? it makes reference to EJBRealizeHome named template - so what next - after this reference we can access EJBRealizeHome properties? current dependency properties?
I don't get, what is such reference influence (is it calling pointed template?)

Quote
Where:

If <name> is not specified it gets the name of the current template.

If <sourceGUID> is not specified it gets the GUID of the current class.

If <namespace> is not specified it gets the name of the current transformation.

if name is specified, it points to the template - name can be template type (for build-in as "Class", "Operation", "Connector") or template type + "__" + template name (for custom templates as "Class__MyTemplate", "Connector__Warning")?

still many questions about TRANSFORM_REFERENCE macro, but none of clear answers or examples :-/

General Board / EA bug
« on: October 24, 2005, 03:36:55 am »
scenario: exported package into XML and imported into another EA package (with diagrams)

result: association classes loses theirs status (no more dotted line to associaction
also, composition relation has interesting bug (aggregation also had, but by changing to unspecified and again to destination->source solved that; composition - not)

bug's picture ;)

General Board / Aggregation GUID
« on: September 22, 2005, 03:50:31 am »

why properties window (Alt+1) doesn't show connectors GUID (in my instance aggregation)?

transformation log shows, that it uses XRef with the GUID, but can't know, from what element it comes

besides, intermediary language specification is needed to write complete transformations - Sparx doesn't disclose all operators, keywords and macros of it (shame of Sparx- without this information transform capability is crippled). And to learn by trials and faults method seems as a reverse engineering to me

Bugs and Issues / incorrect unicode support
« on: August 12, 2008, 08:38:24 pm »
there is a problem with national character support - some letters are saved, some not.

Names of objects, containing some local  characters aren't saved - after closing diagram they are substituted by normal latin characters as a,e,i,u

I'm expieriencing problem with the some lithuanian symbols ([ch261],[ch363],[ch371],[ch281],[ch279]), however [ch269] is handled correctly

Bugs and Issues / forum view in Firefox 2.x

forum view in firefox 2.x under 1440x968 resolution is unacceptable. Old forum version didn't have such crapy look

Bugs and Issues / assemly relation "management"
« on: July 10, 2008, 09:40:43 pm »
there is no way simply manage assembly relation - you can't precisely position lollipop  symbol in your diagram.

Use case: draw assembly between 2 components and split assembly connecton - lollipop goes up from the split point

Uml Process / Navigability
« on: November 02, 2006, 05:25:47 am »
this is related with other my post about navigability and OCL - it's a pity, that there was no replays:
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=UMLPRO;action=display;num=1161725485

UML specification states, that navigable end is represented by arrow link end. If both ends are navigable, both link ends can have arrows or don't.

Then how to read this example ??? Shouldn't package end have named end due to the navigability directed by arrow end from packate to stuff?

More examples could be found in UML Superstructure  & other documents
