General Board / Where is my pattern that has been embedded to MDG?
« on: September 20, 2018, 04:11:59 pm »
I created an UML profile with a bunch of stereotypes.
I also created a pattern in which classes of these stereotypes are used.
Profile and pattern are added to an MDG.

When importing this MDG to another model I see the toolbox offering my stereotypes -> As expected :)
What I am missing is my pattern.
Where is it?
Does my MDG need something additional to make the pattern usable and selectable somewhere?

General Board / Create read-only tag in an UML profile
« on: September 14, 2018, 11:58:39 pm »
does anybody know how to make a tag read-only?

We created an own UML profile with some stereotypes for classes.
For one stereotype I would like to make one tag "read-only". The tag has a default value, and it would be nice if the user, who creates a class of such a stereotype cannot change the value of that tag.

General Board / Empty tags of a class not shown in diagram
« on: September 14, 2018, 11:48:33 pm »
I just observed that EA 14.1 does not display tags with no value (empty tags) in a diagram, even if the compartment visibility is set for tags (or even inherited tags).
As soon as I give the empty tags a value they are displayed.

Is this behavior normal/intended?
How is the behavior in EA version <= EA 14.0?

I would like to see all tags, even those with no value, if compartment visibility is set for tags.

since a long time (>> 1 year) I have a really annoying behavior when creating a message/call in a sequence chart.
Today it really makes me >:( >:( >:( >:(.

When creating a message between existing messages the message jumps down after creation.
Sometimes it is located at the very bottom, sometimes somewhere in the middle of the diagram.
I always have to move it with press Alt-key to the intended location.

This does not happen the created message is the last in the sequence.
The behavior is the same in EA 12 and 13 (14 not yet tested).

Any idea what might cause this behavior?
Or even better: how to get rid of this?
I do not think this is intended.
A re-installation did not help.

General Board / Where are user passwords stored?
« on: April 19, 2018, 07:43:12 pm »
In EA 11 Sparx has changed to a SHA hash of the user security passwords.
Along with that change, the storage location of the user passwords has changed. Before the passwords where in table t_secuser, now they are somewhere else.
Does anybody know where the passwords are stored?

General Board / Weird copy/paste diagram behaviour
« on: January 15, 2018, 08:15:20 pm »
I observed a strange behavior when copying and pasting a diagram than I cannot explain (EA 13.5 and EA 12.1).
Source diagram:
- contains class elements
- contains instances of classes
All elements are in the same package as the source diagram.

Newly pasted diagram (paste as shallow copy):
Good: The diagram also contains classes and instances, and the classes refer to the original elements (links to them).
Bad: The instances are copies of the "original instances". So in the project browser now I have copies of all instances. The new diagram now links to the duplicated instances, instead of linking to the original ones.

Any other copy method (deep, smart) does also duplicated the elements in the diagram, as expected. But this is not what I want.

Any idea if this behavior is normal? And (more important) why is this normal?
Any idea how to get a copy/clone of a diagram, without duplicating the elements in the copied diagram?

General Board / What is a "property"?
« on: July 31, 2017, 11:42:24 pm »

since several weeks I am asking myself the hell is a "property" when dropping a class element in a diagram.
When dropping a class element in a diagram a dialog appears asking of what kind the dropped element shall be created: Link, Instance, Child, Property.

Links, Instance and Child are perfectly clear.
I just don't know what a property might be.

Can anyone bring light into my darkness?
All explanations in the internet did not really help (maybe bad explained or I am too stupid for that).

is it anyhow possible let EA create/remove tags based on the value of another tag?

I created an stereotype <<Signal>> (based on metaclass Interface).
A <<Signal>> will always have the tag "Conversion", which is an enum with "Analog" and "Linear" as selectable values.
I would no like to do EA the following magic:
 - If I select "Linear" two additional tags shall be added.
 - If I select "Analog": the two new tags should disappear, if existing.

Any idea how this can be realized?
Maybe UML profiles and stereotypes are the wrong way to do this. I appreciate any other idea.

General Board / Login to EA models - in some model Yes in some not
« on: December 14, 2016, 08:45:20 pm »
we have
  • all models on a PostgreSQL server
  • all models configured with "Enable Security" and "Require User Lock to Edit"
  • every developer has its own "account" (user) configured in the models
Now we discover that on some models all users always get a login dialog ("Login to EA Repository" with UserID and Password) is shown, when opening the model.
After providing UserID and password and checking "Remember UserID" the models opens.
When reopening the model, after it has been closed, the dialog is shown again, with User Id already filled out.

On most other models this dialog does not appear.
As stated above: all models are configured identical.

Any idea what might cause some models always to ask for login but not in other models?

General Board / EA with repositories on PostgreSQL
« on: October 14, 2016, 11:40:42 pm »
we are having all our EA models on a PostgreSQL server.
The server is configured to have a login role named "ea_user" that has superuser rights as role privileges.
EA uses "ea_user" and its configured password to login into the database(s).

I feel a little bit uncomfortable for a long time with the superuser rights to "ea_user".
What kind of access rights or privileges does a login role need as minimum for being able to do all possible tasks when EA connects to the database using that login role?

If reasonable possible I would like to cut the number of access rights of "ea_user" to the minimum.

General Board / Keystore service with AUTHMETHOD=AM_SSKSGROUP
« on: June 17, 2016, 04:32:46 pm »

I am experimenting with the keystore service configured to authentication method AUTHMETHOD=AM_SSKSGROUP.
With the configuration seen below I found out the the UserName=g52873 corresponds to the Windows login name. But this way a "group" only consists of one user.
What I would like to have is a group consisting of several users
In our company we have of course no "shared logins", but individual Windows logins.

I would like to have a configuration allowing a list of users to use System Engineering Edition licenses.
Ideally all other users only get Corporate Edition licenses (we only have these two types of licenses in our key store.

Is the AUTHMETHOD=AM_SSKSGROUP the right way to achieve this or is this wrong?

My keystoreService.config file:
Code: [Select]
My keystoreservice.ssksgroupconfig:
Code: [Select]
Name=SysML Users

Bugs and Issues / EA forgets its configuration on floating license
« on: April 14, 2016, 04:51:38 pm »

we are using the Sparx Keystore service for providing our floating licenses to the EA users.
From time to time all licenses are in use.
A user that starts EA, when all licenses are in use, gets an error message (as expected):
No available key for Enterprise Architect could be found.
Enter a key or connect to new keystore now?
[Yes]  [No]
After clicking on "No", because I know that no license is available, EA forgets that it had a "corporate floating" license configured previously.
When I "restart" EA afterwards the "License Management" dialog window appears where I can add or remove license keys.
In that dialog no license key is mentioned.

Can anybody confirm this behavior?
Why does EA forget about which license it has been configured?
Any idea how to prevent that EA forgets which license has been configured?

If anybody can confirm this I will report this as bug, as this is really annoying.
Many thanks.

General Board / Cloud Services: Storage location configuration
« on: December 15, 2015, 11:42:46 pm »
where does Sparx Cloud Services store the configuration of the "Database Mangers", i.e. the list of the models that are exposed via the service and which models are read-only, etc.

I cannot find a file (with a recent date and time after a change of the configuration) and I cannot find anything in the registry.

General Board / How to use WAN Optimizer?
« on: November 17, 2015, 07:00:20 pm »
some facts and background information:
  • Our company has two sites (Europe and India)
  • The central repository server for our EA models is located in Europe
  • The site in India is connected to our Europe LAN via VPN
  • Working in EA is awful slow for the guys in India :(
Our idea is to use the "WAN Optimizer" to speed up things for them.

For testing purposes I (sitting in Europe) installed the WAN Optimizer services on my laptop. I am not expexting speed improvements, I only want to be able to connect to our EA models using the WNA Optimizer as proxy instead of connecting to our SQL server directly.
  • The service is running on port 4242 (default)
  • In the WAN Optimizer Admin application I added a "Database Manager" using an already existing "connection string" provided by using an existing ODBC data source
How do I know the connection from EA to the model on the server goas "through" the WAN Optimizer?
What other changes do I have to do (e.g. change ODBC data source configuration)?

The user guide for WAN Optimizer does not mention anything. It only describes how to install, to configure and to troubleshoot.
I does not mention how to "use" it after installation and configuration.

General Board / EA and PostgreSQL x64
« on: November 03, 2015, 06:08:22 pm »
I am currently "evaluating" if we can use EA (currently 12.0) with PostgreSQL 9.4 x64 as central repository server.

We are currently using EA with PostgreSQL 9.3 32 bit which work pretty fine.
On the clients we use psqlodbc 09.03 32 bit as ODBC driver.
EA clients run on Win 7 64 bit and PostgreSQL server runs on Windows 2012 R2.

When trying to connect to PostgreSQL 9.4 64 bit I face several issues:
  • Using psqlodbc 09.03 32 bit: EA 12 tries to open the database (all tables exist, but model is still empty):
    • EA tells the model is empty and ask to transfer a model into the database
    • When clicking "Yes" the next window that appears tells "EA has experienced a network error and will close down." :(
  • Using psqlodbc 09.03 64 bit:
    • EA does not even provide the database connection I configured for the test database :(
Does anybody have experience with EA and 64 bit PostgreSQL servers?
I would even appreciate an answer like "Hey dude, forget EA and PostgreSQL x64. This does not work. Use x86 and be happy."
