Suggestions and Requests / Re: Chat for the people
« on: April 28, 2005, 11:09:44 am »
Hi Carlos,

some of the people on the forum do make their e-mail public (just look in the users' profile) so you can e-mail them for help.
The Sparx staff do monitor the forum to some extent and on occasion move the posting to the appropriate section, had it been posted to where it does not belong (granted, this does not happen too frequently).
Sharing the documentation is possible on a by-product of this forum - have a look at www.eausergroup.org.

Hope this helps!

Bruno

yeah... but please think this:

A chat for the persons like me... and like the thousand of users the EA... A chat with automatic communication  with email for people like you an another's guru's... A chat with automatic control of word (for bad people)... a chat with control of the text (if the text don't have the same context of the discussion... the person is advice and if repeat, the person are retire).... a chat inf difference languages  ;D ... a chat with possibilities to share documentation...

Thanks ...and sorry for my bad English :-[

Moses, Thomas,

this may be the thread you are talking about:
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general;action=display;num=1114042238

Ashley mentions besides other features the ability to baseline and diff. If it works well, it might be the answer.

Hope this helps!

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Print several diagrams
« on: April 26, 2005, 10:55:18 am »
Hi,

you could generate the RTF documentation (probably with the Diagrams Only option) and print the document then.

Hope this helps!

Is it possible to print more than the current visible diagram? I want to be able to print all class diagrams without having to navigate trough them all...

Hi Federico,

it sounds like you are using the Data Transfer functionality which indeed does just that - moves the whole contents of the repository into another one, overwriting the original contents. What you probably are looking for is a replication - see menu items under Tools > Manage .EAP file.
Also, if all of your users are on a common network, you may want to look into having the users share the same repository, it would make your life likely much easier.

Hope this helps!

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Do not crash when DB connection lost

Paolo,

this is happening with MS SQL as well as Oracle databases.

Bruno,

Is this true of "repository" based databases or just the EAP file.

If you're experiencing it with an EAP file, then it's probably the way MS Access works.  It's not a true "server".  If its happenning with SQLServer or orne of the other DB repositories then it's a more general EA design issue.

I'm one of MS Access's greatest fans, but one must realise its limitations in some cercumstances.

On a somewhat related note, a bit of optimization of the communication between the EA application and the database would be nice, too. The bandwidth required between the app and the db is huge, I guess a lot of data gets moved between the client and the server repeatedly and therefore inefficiently.
It is virtually impossible to use EA with a remote database. Applications where one would expect much more data being moved between the client and the server, handle this with no problem.

I suppose this would require rewriting the whole application though, so I will keep this at the very botoom of my wish list.

Second that, we also had a latency issue with a db in our datacenter and EA would actually crash while attempting to open the project.
No tweak in the connection timeout or any other options seemed to solve this.

If I well recall there has been a response from Sparx about this a while back (I tried to search for it though and couldn't find it). Basically, Sparx are using a third-party system for the forum (www.yabbforum.com) and have little control over the functionality the forum provides. Once RSS support is added to YABB, perhaps then we can have it :-)

Having said that, I would love RSS support!

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Locking Objects

No problem!

I would much like it if the Project View indicated which objects are locked and by whom... it would save a lot of time and hassle... this has been requested many times in the forum, perhaps one day.... :-)

Ah, thank you very much.  Not the handiest interface, but it will work.

Hi,

while there is, in my opinion, much that could be improved when it comes to locking, both of your requirements are already implemented in EA. Check the menu Project > Security > Manage My Locks and Project > Security > View and Manage Locks.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

there is no simple way of doing that within EA (that I know of). What you can do however is to generate MS Word documentation at, for example, each release of your model, and then do simple tracking of changes between the two Word documents.

Hope this helps!

Do you guys know how to track changes in EA?

For example, we are making changes for next version product,  Is there any way to track changes? or even just mark the new changes in different color will also help a lot.

Does any one know how to do that?

Thanks
