General Board / DB Reverse with views - SQL query
« on: April 28, 2017, 05:33:09 pm »

When I import DB views , I can access the associated SQL query which is useful, but not in all cases.
For some DBs, the content is empty.

I mainly use Postgres and Oracle.
Any explanations on why the content is sometimes empty?

Note that I'm planning to define a script that creates columns in the view matching the SELECT clause from the embedded query. I think it would be nice to have this built-in EA as an option.

I have a package baseline GUID and the associated EA.Package in my addin class.
I checked how the information is stored in the DB as a zip base64 coded content from previous post.

However it doesn't seem to be possible from Sparx EA API or SQL queries to load the XMI content e.g. via an XMI import?

I noticed in some occasions that EA no longer takes into account updated VBScripts and runs a "cached" previous version of it.
This can happen when I often change a number of scripts, or when I often re-run Reference Data imports, containing my scripts.

It's only when EA is restarted that the right code is run.

Is there any way to prevent that?

Bugs and Issues / Align Package and Class elements
« on: April 06, 2017, 09:07:25 pm »
I found a weird bug in aligning elements on a diagram with EA 13.

In a class diagram, I select packages and classes (classes shown within packages) to align vertically -> clicking on the button (LAYOUT > Alignment > Align Vertically) doesn't do anything.
Using the right click on the selection and select  Align Vertically moves them to the left -> seen both in EA 13 and 12.1
I would expect the packages and classes to be aligned vertically altogether.

Suggestions and Requests / Select scripts in the Export Reference Data
« on: April 06, 2017, 09:02:19 pm »
It would be very useful to have the option to select the Script Groups to export when running Export Reference Data with Automation scripts enabled.
I often need to push custom scripts to my client in this file ; however my EA project often have other groups that are automatically included. Hence I have to re import to XML in a blank EAP and delete the unwanted groups.

The MDG could be an option once it maintains the script group type which it doesn't do currently (e.g. Diagram, Package script types are lost when published via an MDG)

Uml Process / Specification manager and Boolean tagged values
« on: February 09, 2017, 02:04:46 am »

I'm using EA13 and displayed a tagged value in the specification manager.
It's a boolean so I can choose between True & False. It displays ok in the spec management but it cannot be changed. I can only edit standard text field tagged values.

Should I submit a feature request?

I'm working on a SysML activity diagram and cannot achieve the following:
- I created an action of type callbehaviour and selected an activity -> is there a way to display the classifier i.e. the activity name or does it require an enhancement?
- I created action pins and set the direction as input & output for each. Is there a way to display the direction with an arrow? (it's available on other SysML tools)

General Board / EA13 image assets
« on: January 27, 2017, 12:40:57 am »

I looked at the image assets introduced in EA13.
It's very useful since I have a number of projects where we had to organize images, which is a pain with the Image Manager.

- When converting an image to an image asset, is this asset linked with all image instances on the various diagrams? It didn't seem to be fully the case when I did a number of tests (especially checking with the Find in all diagrams..)
- Can we have a feature to convert all current images, or a selection to image assets so the convert doesn't have to be done individually? If not, can it be achieve via the API / scripts?
- Can I safely add tagged values to image assets e.g. to apply a category value?
- Will the image library on  be released as images assets for EA13?

I defined a SysML block definition diagram with my main block and parts via compositions. A role name + multiplicity is defined on each composition
As a result a properties compartment shows up on the block with the associated role + block name

Other SysML modelling tools also display the multiplicity; could this be displayed via an option?

When defining a statechart diagram, it can be useful to associate a transition & trigger event to a real class (or sysml block) operation.
This is an alternative to name the transition after the triggering event (free text, not linked with anything).

In the transitions properties > Constraints tab, I can create a Trigger with the Call type to select an operation. The issue I have is that this trigger must be named so if I change later my operation, it is not automatically renamed on the diagram.
Would it be possible let's say for unnamed triggers to display the linked operation?

Synchronize structural elements on a SysML IBD is useful to add all parts.
Would it be possible to add an option where all the parts structural elements i.e. ports could be automatically added as well? Is there a workaround currently available to add all parts' ports (and parts) without having to run a custom script ?

Let's say you have 5 aggregations from your main block to blocks that have 2 ports each. Is there a way to avoid having to add inherited ports & parts via the structural elements popup on each 5 part in the IBD?

Bugs and Issues / EA13 + SysML: show port classifiers & property binding
« on: December 21, 2016, 07:29:40 pm »
I found a new diagram option under Elements in EA 13: show port classifiers.
This would be useful however I cannot get it to work.

I created a simple SysML BDD with a block + port, and set the port's classifier to a block.
The classifier is always visible, whether the option is disabled or enabled.

I also noticed the following announced improvement: "Part name change will now update bound Association role". However when renaming the part in the IBD, the association end role for the aggregation is not modified. Renaming the association end rolename updates the part but this is available in 12.1 already.

I'm running the latest 1309 build.

General Board / Associations order in the generated XSD file
« on: December 09, 2016, 03:11:55 am »

I have a project where we defined XSDcomplexType classes to generate XSD files.
Using EA Generate XML Schema command, here is an extract of what I get on the associations created between complex types:
Code: [Select]
<xs:complexType name="ComplexType1">
                    <xs:element name="element1" type="xs:string" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/>
                    <xs:element name="association1" type="Association1" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/>
                    <xs:element name="association2" type="Association2" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/>
                    <xs:element name="association3" type="Association3" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/>
                    <xs:element name="association4" type="Association4" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/>
Having looked into details, EA uses the created order i.e. Connector ID value from t_connector table (I get association 4 before association 3, if I created associations in the order 1 / 2 / 4 / 3).
So the I'm looking for a way to let EA users change this order.

Could the Generate XML Schema in Sparx EA be improved to support that e.g. via tagged value or else?
I tried the Schema Composer which seems to apply an alphabetical order on the role name only. I also noticed that the Schema Composer doesn't generate an XSD content as complete as EA Generate XSD file.
I'm aware that a Schema Composer addin can be written to generate an XSD file and support additional tagged values. I did something similar to generate JSON files before, but the current context requires an option that's built in EA.

Could it be looked at by Sparx?

Bugs and Issues / SysML 1.3 IBD and EA13
« on: December 08, 2016, 11:38:13 pm »

I noticed 2 weird behaviours in EA 13 (build 1309) and SysML IBD (SysML 1.3)
I created an IBD from a block; this diagram is automatically created under the block and I can see a frame view of the block.

Once I move this diagram to a separate package, this "frame" is replaced with the block itself ; how can I prevent this? (note that if I moved it back under the block, it's ok)

I also found that port names on an IBD can be blurry when you first open the diagram (it eventually goes back to normal).

Bugs and Issues / stereotyped SysML blocks and IBD
« on: November 23, 2016, 08:11:57 am »

I defined a UML profile with stereotypes on SysML blocks.
Adding an IBD on those blocks work ok (sync element show properties and ports).

However when I add a stereotyped block as a "property" (SysML 1.3 Part), nothing happens.
If I create a normal SysML Block and then add / select my custom stereotype, then it works ok. It looks like the expected behaviour is obtained with the SysML 1.3 Block is selected as the main stereotype, and any custom stereotype must be added. This is not ideal as the associated toolbox doesn't achieve this.

Is there any this could be fixed? Any comment?
