Mine too.

Well said!

Visually orphaned elements are a diagram-specific concept. This is one area where the collections provided by EA are completely inadequate.

Geert makes a good point: there is a query that could be used to provide this function.

Geert's argument shows another 'hidden' point. There is a clear procedure that can be followed to obtain this information. The procedure works with the two classes in question. Furthermore the procedure is both deterministic (in the sense that it always gets only correct results and no others) and complete (in the sense that the results include all the correct results).

IMO this would seem to belie Sparx' claim that there is no direct link. But of course this is not my call to make, at least as far as modifying the API goes.

Sigh...

Yes, definitely!

This is one area where doing it yourself is both time-wasting (EA already knows the answer, but won't tell us) and error-prone (we each have to invent the method for ourselves, even though the answer should be obvious).

"At the end of the day..."

So too is a sticky post for the FAQ section [or "category" if you prefer] of the forum missing.

But of course the entire FAQ section is missing. Perhaps there is a sticky post and we just don't see the whole section. Where the FAQ section is (often phrased as why there isn't one) is a likely candidate for the first FAQ to address.

Even Sir Humphrey would agree this is long overdue. It seems to date back to the days of Mister Appleby. But perhaps this very allusion contains a gem of wisdom. Sir Humphrey might not have approved of providing answers; or at least not of questions being frequently asked.

We could therein find a general answer for many such questions though.

Nice refinement.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Visible Relations... Apply filter

Adding the option to sort (with or without a filter) could make this more useful still.

But yes I agree, regardless.

Good idea Oliver.

Please add me to that list, as well as to the supporters of Paolo's suggestion.

Perhaps you are supposed to "go back" to when there were "following fields" to fill out...

Ditto!

Actually, IMHO this would better be phrased along the lines of 'all base types' so we don't go around this loop again somewhere down the line.

But I certainly agree. Thanks for making the observation and request.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Tagged Value types - BitField
« on: September 20, 2009, 12:05:19 am »
Certainly there should be the ability to use enumerations (not the EA or UML data type interpretation) for tagged values. The concept of a bit field (i.e. something that can be OR'ed together) could be an option for enumerations (or another tagged value type).

Yes!

This is yet another case where per-diagram options need to be provided (or enhanced).

If the diagram is shown as an element list you will be able to do this.  You can also report on the selected elements of a search.
Simon,

By "this" do you mean reporting from a diagram, or reporting only the selected subset of elements on a diagram?

Either way you have provided two valuable insights...
