General Board / Re: Licensing for large site
« on: July 06, 2004, 09:16:10 am »
Hi Mark,

I've recently (one week ago) discussed this with the Sparx team and they are working on the licensing model. Next to that Sparx is willing to discuss your situation (which might be very specific) for unattended installations.

F.y.i.: the full installs are based on self exploding MSI installations.

Another guess, are you sure that you are using the correct versions of MySQL and also the ODBC driver (see somewhere on the corporate install pages of Sparx's site)? I also had some weird problems when I used older versions earlier.

Have you checked the versions of EA you're running? It might be that you're running an older version of EA at home that lacked the support of constraints for associations in XMI (check version history of EA).

You might wanna try filling in the behaviour tab that is found in the operation window (press F10 when you've selected a class in a diagram or in the projectbrowser).

General Board / Re: Problem: Messages in fragment on sequence diag
« on: June 17, 2004, 04:43:50 am »
Hi Martyn,

I guess this is a problem with layerdepths on a diagram. By placing items in front of another item (as happens with new items), the first thing that gets selected is that item.

In your situation, I guess EA tries to create the message from the fragment to another entity (e.g. object) which might not be UML compliant.

Try to select the fragment and drop it to the back (using either the button "two gray squares with a yellow one behind it, or via the menu Element, Z-Order, To Bottom). Then try the connection again.

Search the EA help for Bookmarks! It's not an indication of an error.

Hi,

In the beginning of my use of EA (more than two years ago), I also experienced disappearing data. With that, I also encountered corrupted Access databases.

In that time, I used Jet3.5 with an Access database on a remote server. The problem seemed to be related to slow or corrupt networks. From what I've read, the Jet engine cannot guarantee lossless communication.

Is your situation like the one above? Then try a different database (corporate EA version) or a more stable network.

General Board / Re: Can support export to Rose Format or other For
« on: July 11, 2003, 07:00:58 am »
Hi Max,

It is possible to transfer data from EA to Rose! Search the forum for XMI (XML model interchange) or XML export / import.

The features above will generate XML which contains your model. This XML can be read by Rose (using Unisys plugin) to build up the model again, but now in Rose.

General Board / Re: Unrecognized database format error!
« on: May 10, 2004, 01:20:18 am »
Two situations come to my mind:

1) The database is corrupted (happens over a network with Access (EAP) files, the corruption is doesn't damage your data) -> open another EAP file and select Tools/Manage .EAP file/Repair .EAP file and select your EAP file (doesn't do much, just resets a flag in the database;

2) Someone has switched an option named JET4: once this option has been set and your project has been opened with that EA instance, your project EAP file has been converted to support JET4 -> Now everyone has to use the JET4 option (see tools, options, first screen);

The LDB file is not a problem, that's a MSAccess lock file but the project (EAP) file is multi-user and locks should not be a problem.

General Board / Re: Deleting Project Root Nodes
« on: May 05, 2004, 02:16:36 am »
Hi Darryl,

Using the contextmenu on a projectroot enables you to delete projectroots. Except for the first (in time: the original) projectroot, that one cannot be deleted.

General Board / Re: Object Diagram: Showing attribute values
« on: June 26, 2003, 02:18:59 am »
Hi Gary,

Yes you can. Right-click the object on a diagram and select "Set Run State...". There you can enter attribute values that will be shown on the diagram.

There are some known limitations:

- the order you fill the values determines the order of display, in reverse order. The first value you enter will end up as the last value shown.

- You cannot directly change a value. You have to enter a new value for the attribute to override the previous value. Values can be deleted by setting the value of the attribute with no value;

General Board / Re: How do I create aggregate (nested) states?
« on: February 27, 2004, 12:00:26 am »
Hi Jim,

In scenario 2 it seems that the z-order of the elements is not right for your action. When you've created the new element, change the z-order (bring to front), then drag it on top of the existing element.

I've not tried the above, but I know the z-order is imported for EA to automatically create aggregations.

General Board / Re: DAO Error Message
« on: February 24, 2004, 06:25:32 am »
Are you using replication? If so, did you open the master using JET 4.0. I guess the master and the replications need to be set for the same JET version.

One thing you should at least check is the JET version used by the repository and the EA installations. By default, EA has the option set to JET 3.5 (options menu). JET 4 is targeted at MS Access 2000 and is more stable. If some users switch JET versions various problems could occur.

If you're using a replicated model created with an earlier databasemodel of EA (not sure which version, see in about box) it might be that only the master could be converted to the new model and that the replicas should be recreated.

Some guesses, hope one will help you.

General Board / Re: Changing Heading Style for RTF Report
« on: February 20, 2004, 12:38:50 am »
Try the following:

1) Use the menu Tools\Export reference data and select "Templates - RTF Style" and "Templates - RTF Style Detail" for export. This creates a XML file with the styles, you can then use Tools\Import reference data in another repository to import the styles.

2) If you're using EAP files, you can open them using MSAccess and search for the t_rtf table. There you'll find entries for template elements. The default template just mentions the element names, the non-default are prepended with "template name#".

You might then copy that information by hand or automatically (you'll have to write a small tool using ODBC for that).

For both methods, you'll have to be sure that the RTF documentation that is created uses the template(s) that you wanted them to use (mostly the self created).

Tjerk
