I probably get it wrong since I'm using my spanish (not latin) to try and understand it. what does it mean?

I think this is a cry out for Sparx to overtake Electronic Arts and make it work properly!
I suggest you take it seriusly and begin to check EAs stack value, or maybe you should offer them EA so they can model their games better... ;D ;D ;D

Seriusly, I think this is one of the gratest post I've ever seen!!

Suggestions and Requests / Floating licenses server
« on: June 10, 2008, 04:12:06 pm »
Right now the floating licenses work on a file, which means write permissions must be given to all users (a lot in my case). This puts the file at risk of being corrupted (it happnes to us) and also if a client gets stucked ther's no roll back mechanism.
I think a floating lisences server or aquiring the lisences from a DB would make it safer.
It is vcery unpleasent to get a call from work that EA can't be opened because of licenses file issue (spetialy if you have 250 of those licenses...)

Right...

Suggestions and Requests / Why can't we make polls here

I think specially in this forum it is a very inportant tool, rating the popularity of suggestions.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Shape script for all
« on: May 07, 2008, 05:08:19 pm »
I think you're life's too easy. I'm in charge of implementing the tool in a company with 17000 employees - about 200 designers, thousands of developers/testers and hundreds of business analyst.
With the SW development part it is easier, I tied them to the chair and keep them working as pure UML as possible (and it is quite possible).
Other users (specially BP analysts) have their own - industry oriented - domain language. This is very native in BPS tools (like Aris, WebSphere, etc...) but less for UML tools, so in my world I have to make EA capable of dealing with our industry specific language and standards.
Of course I go UML wise and create the profiles with logical conformity with the underlying UML entities.
Right now we keep Aris for BPA and EA for SW modeling, but even then the interface is such that when we have to do some BPA in EA in the SW design stage - there is the trouble.

Bottom line:
If you want your modeling tool to hold the intellectual assets of your whole organization as an complete "universe" with all the relations, there is no other choice but to make it complaint with the specific industry.

Suggestions and Requests / Shape script for all
« on: May 05, 2008, 02:51:15 pm »
I think it would be helful if it was posible to create shape scripts for all types of entities, bit only stereotyped ones, thus change the default EA look for whatever entity required.

When importing/synchronizing choose in to always delete classes not in code in the sycn dialog.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: "copy diagram" feature

Nope, this is the problematic functionality. It creates a new element for any linked element.

When coying I just would like EA to copy the actions I did:
1) If I had an instance \ invocation in the source diagram, I would like to have also a new  instance \ invocation of the same element in the target.
2) If I made a link to an element in the source diagram I would like to have the same link in the target.
3) if I had a connector in the source diagram I would like to have a parallel one in the target.

Suggestions and Requests / "copy diagram" feature
« on: April 08, 2008, 09:38:08 pm »
Right now the copy diagram feature seems to have two options:
1) shallow copy: CRTL+A in the source digarm and paste as link in new.
2) deep copy: recreate all the entities in the sourcedigarm in the new (inluded linked elements).

I would expect copy diagram to create an identical copy of the source, meaning deep copy but links should stay links.
An exact copy = doing exactly the same twice, not making it look the same in the diagram. I would expect EA to "recreate" the diagram the same way i did.

Another thing: It is only possible to create them within a pacakge , what if it was a diagram under a composit element I wanted to recreate under a new element?

thanks

sounds like a very professional work.  Good luck.
I wish I could bring my customers to work like that easily...people is always so reluctant of moving forward (like I'll probably be one day...)
I'm in charge of moving  Amdocs (a 17000 employees company) to UML modeling in a couple of years, and do it with a very heterogeneous population in terms of modeling knowledge.
It is the greatest opportunity, for young engineer like me, but  an unimaginable infinite head ache... (like kids ;))

I guess you are right...

The problem would be to catch the "add taggged value" event, I don't think it is possible. If it is not this would mean I would have to run seom batch job to create this linke not on-line - very problematic.
Maybe the way is just not to connect objects through tags, this will (rightfully IMHO) piss my ucstomers, but as misnight stated "such is life".

PS: I still wasn't conviced that related to entities through tags and not enbling automatic genration of links from this, is an inconsistency.
