General Board / Roadmap diagrams
« on: March 08, 2018, 02:24:36 am »
I am following the steps on to create a roadmap diagram but somehow I cannot get the colours specified in the legend to apply to elements on the diagram.

Use Legend for phase colours is ticked, the legends are defined as per the instructions, the elements in the diagram are classes, but somehow I still cannot get the colours to display.

What am I missing?

General Board / MDG Integration for Microsoft Office

Does MDG Integration for Microsoft Office work with Office 365 on Windows Server 2012 R2?

General Board / Repository security

I think I know the answer to this but I will ask just in case. Is there a way to configure repository security on a package-by-package basis?

General Board / WSDL import
« on: November 25, 2017, 03:24:56 am »
I just imported 2 WSDLs into a project. All worked well except for one annoying thing: EA imports all elements as a list without any relationships - i.e. associations - between related elements, it appears that I need to draw the associations manually. Is there a way to get EA to infer the relationships?

General Board / Types of relationships allowed between elements
« on: October 30, 2017, 10:36:19 pm »
Sparx EA (v 13) only allows certain types of relationships to be drawn between elements for certain types of (UML) diagrams. For instance, I have a structural diagram and cannot draw an association, I can only draw dependencies, traces and information flows. Could somebody please point me in the direction of which relationships are allowed for which diagrams?

General Board / Filtering Matrices
« on: September 29, 2017, 11:20:04 pm »
Matrices can be filtered by (element) Type -  e.g., Actor, Class, Component and so on - but is there a way to also filter the contents of a matrix by stereotype. To give some context to the question, the stereotypes I have in mind are extensions of the base classes using a UML profile.

In a nutshell we are ending up with matrices with too much superfluous data, if we could filter by stereotype they will just have the relevant data.

General Board / Shape script on profile
« on: September 28, 2017, 09:19:41 pm »
I have created a profile with a number of extensions to base classes. I have attached the shape script below to one of the stereotypes extending the base class. The script draws the right geometry but the connectors look odd. There are 2 problems:

1) one end of the connector, the bottom end, is a few pixels inside the rectangle
2) if I change the stereotype of an element in the diagram to the stereotype with the same scripts, a significant amount of white space appears between the bottom of the shape and the end of the connectors

Have I missed anything? (Sparx EA version is 13.0.1310 Build 1310).

Code: [Select]
shape main{

addSubshape("stereotypecompartment", 100, 20);

addSubshape("namecompartment", 100, 20);

shape stereotypecompartment
h_align = "right";

editablefield = "stereotype";

shape namecompartment
h_align = "center";

editablefield = "name";

General Board / Diagram elements showing a red A
« on: September 20, 2017, 11:45:13 pm »
I have a diagram with some elements, but not all, showing a red A in the bottom right corner. Could somebody please remind me what this means and how to get rid of it?

I am configuring a brand new installation of EA Business and Software Engineering Edition v 13.0.1310 for a team of about 5 users and would like some thoughts/opinions/ideas on how to address a couple of aspects of the installation:

The repository -  ultimately we are going to have the repository on a private cloud, possibly, but not necessarily, AWS; however the wheels here move slowly, very slowly, and would like to have the team collaborating before a decision is made. This is going to require a tactical solution; so the question is, can any think of any available options that does not involved procuring and plugging to a secure network a piece of tin (either virtual/cloud or real)?

"The metamodel" - I also want to customise EA for our specific needs and, as those who have read some of my previous posts know, I will typically approach this by developing a metamodel, which I have started to do, however, based on previous experience I am not convinced this is the best approach. I would also appreciate any thoughts/ideas/opinions on this.

[P.S.: A customised metamodel will be either an extension of TOGAF or the Zachman framework]

Well, it is been quite a while since I posted or contributed anything to the forum but I am back, at least until work demands every single minute of my time.

The first of 3 questions regards TOGAF. Our service desk has just gotten EA Business and Software Engineering Edition version 13.0.1310; I understand this comes with both TOGAF and the Zachman framework but somehow I cannot enable these extensions. Before I bother our service desk I need to establish if they missed a step during the installation - such as downloading/installing particular MSIs.

General Board / Importing directly into an EA repository
« on: June 03, 2016, 05:55:11 pm »
Let me just start by saying that this sounds like complete heresy to me but I am going to ask about it. Other than the usual mechanisms, CSV imports or Excel macros, has anybody considered or even tried importing directly into the database tables of an EA repository?

The reason for such a heretical question is that the usual mechanisms, quoted above, are proving to be too "slow" to keep up with release cycles of a relatively large solution.

Hopefully nobody starts screaming "heresy".  ;)

General Board / Nesting classes (and generalization)
« on: April 22, 2016, 01:18:22 am »
I have been extensively using nested stereotyped classes each time that a generalisation is involved; for example:

-----Structure Diagram
----------------Class Diagram
----------------Component Diagram
-----Behaviour Diagram
----------------Activity Diagram
----------------Use Case Diagram

In some diagrams I want to depict the generalised classes inside the generalising classes (to save space) and in other diagrams I want to depict a hierarchy. If the classes are nested, Sparx allows me to do the former but does not like me doing the later.

Other than not nesting the classes, is there anything I can do to be able to create both diagrams?

I am developing a meta model and would like to apply it to an existing model. I would appreciate some advice tegarding the following;

1) How do I apply the meta model to an existing project?
2) How can I include existing profiles into the meta model (aka Database Engineering)?
3) How do I customise existing profiles (aka Database Engineering)?
4) How can I get this done iteratively? I have version 0.5 of the meta model but I strongly suspect that quite a number of elements will be added to the meta model overtime?

The project is stored in a SQL Server database repository.

General Board / Has EA 12.0.1215 has trouble printing A2 to PDF?
« on: March 10, 2016, 03:53:28 am »
Does anybody know if EA 12.0.1215 has trouble printing A2 to PDF? A3 works fine what when printing an A2 to PDF EA does not print the full connector lines, it whites out part of the connectors.

General Board / Class without relationships

Is there a way to automatically higlight (change its colour) classes in diagram without relationships to any other classes?
