Thanks Uffe and skiwi, that gets the diagram looking the way I want.

General Board / Changing the way classes are displayed
« on: March 13, 2015, 01:01:26 am »
I am using again EA12 to create a conceptual model. I have done this before but always encountered 2 aesthetic problems I would like to solve this time.

1) Is it possible to get a class to display the way it displays when attributes and operations are added but without actually adding any any attributes or operations -  i.e., like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_diagram#/media/File:BankAccount1.svg?

2) On parent child classes, is it possible to stop the class from being displayed A:B:C and just displayed as C?

I have exactly the same problem with FreePDF. However, if I save the diagram to a BMP file it exports fine.

Bugs and Issues / Print to PDF

EA 12 build 1214 has a Print to PDF menu item on the File menu. I cannot remember if it was there before and was getting sligthly excited about it but I know better. There is a big problem with it: it misses quite a few diagram shapes.

Has anybody come accross this?

Worth putting in a bug report then, as much functionality has changed in this area.
I will later on today.

Good luck, perhaps someone else will be more motivated to help, given your response.
Luck I might need because I have not found an answer yet and this is starting to look like an EA bug.

I have established that EA12 is actually changing by selections after I click Ok or Apply. So there must be some "EA logic" driving this.

Thanks for the dbmode link. I'll give that a go.

I can be ignorant and stupid but not that ignorant and stupid  ;). You can choose them but EA 12 (Build 1212) changes the selections as explained above.

Please read the thread. You can select them, the problem is that EA doesn't keep them.

Perhaps I should have been more precise with my explanation.

I have not had a reply to this. This is a serious problem, so serious that I am starting to doubt EA's database modelling capabilities.

An Order can have 1 or more items in it, if it has no items there is no order. EA does let me create a relationship between an Order table and an Oder Line Item table with a cardinality of 1/1..*.

Bugs and Issues / Cardinality between database objects
« on: April 17, 2015, 06:37:38 pm »
I have 2 tables, A and B. Table A has a primary key defined, lets call it PKa and table B has no primary key defined and a foreign key to table A, lets call it FKa. I have a foreign key constraint constrain between the 2 tables, lets call it FKa_b.

I cannot set the cardinality of FKa_b to 1..1/1..*, this is to signify that 1 and only 1 row in table A can have 1 or many rows in table B. Each time I try it EA changes it to 1..1/0...*. In fact, it does not even allow me to create a 1/1..* relationship but it has no problems with a 1/0..*.

What have I missed?

P.S.: I have moved this post from the general board. Currently running EA 12 build (1212) and the problem is still there.

Bugs and Issues / Re: SQL Server 2012 data types
« on: April 22, 2015, 06:09:39 pm »
Which version of EA are you using? EA12 (Build 1212) has SQL Server 2012 data types. However, unless you use something exotic there is not much difference between SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2012.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Auto-capitalization?
« on: April 29, 2015, 01:20:35 am »
I found out today that the Columns and Constraints dialog is the one creating the problem. The foreign key creation dialog does not change the case.  :)

You can create a foreign key constraint named FK_Abc_Def by creating an association between both tables. But as soon as you try editing the name in the Columns and Constraints dialog to for example FK_Abc_Def1 EA12 upper cases everything and you end up with FK_ABC_DEF1.

If you also send a report the priority will raise....

q.
jklap - could you please also submit a bug report. I can send you what I wrote on a PM.

I have asked the very same question on a separate thread and got no answer.
Please remember that this is a user forum with the intent to share experiences between users.
Although this forum is moderated by Sparx employees, and they regularly participate in discussions, this is no official support channel.
Nobody here is in any way obligated to respond to any question.

If you have an support issue, bug, or change request you have to use the "official" channels.

Fully aware of this, but would you be too surprise if the is a setting hidden deep into EA to control this? I wouldn't be the first time.

I haven't found that setting yet and still hope I will bump onto it accidentally or somebody points that setting out to the community.

Don't tell us you did not want it. You just did not know how to live without it till now ;D

Joke aside. I personally find this particularly annoying. I have asked the very same question on a separate thread and got no answer.

Furthermore, I think this a new feature (intended or unintended) of EA12; I have done data modelling with EA before and do not recall the column names being auto-capitalize.
