That "got it" looked kinda rude once posted.  Stick a grin on it, ok?

Yes.  Ideally, there would be an option to set a default for the diagram, or even the package, using the same dialog as is available when right clicking an Association (Visibility, Set label visibility...)

Personally, I always want to turn off Source Top and Target Top, as they contain the key names, which can be huge long abstract identifiers.  All I really want to see are Source Bottom, Target Bottom, and Middle Top, with the multiplicities and the fields involved in the relationship.

You can imagine, if I've reverse engineered a database with fifty tables, each with one or more relationships, there can be hours of work arranging the tables, recolouring them (easy), making sure that I can print without having a table split across a page break etc etc.

The one task that is impossible to do by selecting and dragging or making a single mouse click is this one!  And when it comes to being about to show it to a non-technical client (or even a UI developer come to that), the least useful information and the most obscuring and confusing is the mess of key names.

Got it?  This would be a huge help to get it fixed up.

Thanks guys, but no it doesn't.  I need a specific subset of the labels.  'All' is too much and too messy (and scares clients) 'None' is not informative enough.

I've been asking Sparx for this for the last five years!  I'll declare a public holday when they finally implement it!

Suggestions and Requests / Set label visibility for whole diagram
« on: November 26, 2008, 01:16:55 pm »
Hi there,

I've asked for this before, and it's still driving me nuts.  Please can we have a way to Set Label Visibility for an entire diagram.

I use EA extensively for Entity Relationship diagrams, and having to laboriously set each Association's labels to keep the diagram clean for documentation is a royal pain, and seems to me to be a waste of my time and my client's money.

What do you say guys?  Any chance?

Any idea when?  I've been hanging out for this feature since I first bought EA a gazillion years ago!  In my world of data modelling, it would be one of the single most useful productivity enhancements.

General Board / Zicom Upgrade - link to download?

Can anyone point me to a link to download the Zicom Mentor upgrade for registered users?

I've had a good squizz around the site and I can't see it anywhere.

TIA

General Board / Re: Search and Replace in all project text

Hi,

I just fixed a similar problem by making a copy of the .eap file, opening it it Access, then simply doing a Find and Replace in the objects table.

This worked for me, as I just needed to change the names of some objects.  You might need to poke around in the tables to find the fields where you need to make changes.  N.B. DO IT ON A COPY. Better safe than sorry.

General Board / Documenting Access forms?
« on: May 16, 2004, 05:52:10 pm »
Has anyone had any luck importing MS Access objects?  I've just tried using the Access SaveAsText undocumented routine to spit out a bunch of forms as .cls files, and tried to import them as if they were regular VB class files, but to no avail.  EA reports success, but nothing's turned up in the diagram or in the Project Explorer.

As I do a great deal of work with Access, it would be grand to work out how to manage this.

TIA

General Board / Re: Where's EA-Req Pro (from World EIT)

Oh well that's good - it's not just me! I'll try the site again tomorrow, and get in touch with Steve in the meantime.
I'm so impressed with EA, and I'm using it on a medium sized project, but I like the sound of ReqPro, as I need all the help I can get with the requirements!

All the best

General Board / Where's EA-Req Pro (from World EIT)
« on: February 08, 2003, 05:24:01 pm »
When I was first looking around the web for stuff about EA, I found World EIT's EA-ReqPro, and add on for EA that deals with requirements.
I downloaded the manual and printed it, so I know it exists.
Now I can't find the site to download the add-in, and since I'm not on the same PC I can't use my History to find it - doh!
Searching for it through Google came up with a blank.

General Board / How to record Risk?
« on: March 06, 2003, 07:00:25 pm »
There are a few entries in the Help file about Risk, and I can find the Project, Metric Types, Risk menu option, but I can't see how to record a Risk against a particular item.

The help file shows (under 'Effort and Risk Management') a form that look like the thing I'm after, but I can't find how to get to it!!!!

All help gratefully accepted!

TIA

General Board / Re: Zicom Mentor - Anybody buy it?

Hmmm... that all balck look is tres Goth, eh?

Yup - I've just coughed up for Zicom Mentor (with a name like that how can you resist it?  :o)

It's actually pretty detailed, and not a top level overview at all.  I'm still a bit of a beginner with the UML, and a good portion of it is inpenetrable-ish.

However, it's a matter of context. I'm finding that every day I'm 'getting it' more and more with the UML, so using the Mentor to look up exactly what a symbol is supposed to do is meaning more and more to me.

Personally, I feel that it could do with more by way of a top level overview, as I'm aware that there's a core set of UML symbols that cover 90% of what you need.  There's no way to distill this out of the Mentor's barrage of detail.

Have another look at the sample version, as where there is some actual content, it's pretty representative of the rest of it.

All the best
