General Board / Use of Enterprise Architect in a real project
« on: March 17, 2016, 01:11:49 am »
Hi guys,

I am a bit curious how you use EA on a daily basis. Consider the following scenario:

I kick off developers to work on Sprint 1.
I start working on requirements and use cases for next sprint, which includes changes to specifications for Sprint 1.
How do I avoid to confuse developers and keep my changes 'private' until we are ready to start sprint 2?

Cheers
Knut

Thanks :-)
I'll give it a try.

Hi guys,

Is there a way to change the font size of elements in a diagram via the API? The DiagramObject.Style setting does not seem to cover this, at least not according to Thomas' book.

Hi guys,

I was under the impression that both doubleclicking an element or selecting properties from the context menu would trigger EA_OnContextItemDoubleClicked. I am pretty sure this is how it used to work. But now it doesn't :-(

I have an addin implementing EA_OnContextItemDoubleClicked with a breakpoint on the first line. Doubleclicking and the breakpoint is hit, selecting properties and it is not. My addin overrides the property dialog, so it is pretty obvious that EA_OnContextItemDoubleClicked has not been called since it is the standard EA property dialog that is displayed in the case of context menu/Properties.

I have disabled all other addins to be sure nobody is playing with me :-)

I am using EA build 12.1.1226

Any ideas?

cheers

Yes, probably :-)
But still accessing the exact same database using the exact same code, but of course some network differences.
Will try at home again to see what happens.

Still on build 1215.

first tried a direct update in the database: work perfectly.
then tried my program again (using the API): worked perfectly.

Yesterday I was at home, today at the office.  Don't know how that can affect this specific functionality.

OK, thanks guys :-)

I'm on 1215. Nice to know that IS supposed to work, so I'll take another look.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Replace diagramobject
« on: January 07, 2016, 11:15:27 pm »
Hi guys,

Background story: I tend to find lots of actors in various sub-packages that are really one and the same. So, I write a small program that can merge two actors, i.e. move all actor-use case links from one actor to the other, which works fine. Next step is to find all diagrams the obsolete actor is in, which also works fine.

Problem: I have the diagramobject representing the original actor and I have the new actor element. Is it then enough to set the element id of the diagrams object to the element id of the new actor? When I do this and then call Update() on the diagramobject I get a COMException with no message and an HResult of -2147221504

Any ideas?

EA just gave up after about 40 hours chewing on a 170MB XMI file. Wrote a program using the Project interface, which did it folder by folder and it completed in 2-3 hours and no problems discovered :-)

Sorry, I forgot to mention :-)

I am using EA11 with Cloud and ODBC to a MySql repository from the cloud server.

Hi guys,
During XMI import I get several message boxes saying:
Microsoft cursor engine
Multi-step operation generated errors. Check each status value

Anybody who knows what this means and which status values to check?

Thanks

Sorry for being imprecise Simon :-)
The connecting strings are just what I am looking for.

Ok, getting a bit further :-)

EABASE.FDB successfully opened and read. Appears to contain a regular EA table structure, which brings out the question: In which table did they put the EA Cloud configuration stuff?

Anybody?

General Board / Accessing the EABASE.FDB firebird database
« on: February 02, 2015, 10:21:16 pm »
Hi guys,

I want to peek inside the ea cloud services database and I am creating an EA Firebird ODBC entry. I enter the name of the odbc entry and select the EABASE.FDB file in the Database field, but when I click test connection it says Open database XXX failed. Is there something more I need to do?
