Sometimes it would be useful to apply a diagram filter when reporting a diagram in an RTF template.

We have a case where monitoring items are added to business process diagrams, but we don't want the business process documents to be impacted by the monitoring items.
Using diagram filters we can filter the monitoring items out of the diagrams, but unfortunately there's no facility to apply those diagram filters when generating a document.

Bugs and Issues / Script fragment error only on first try
« on: February 26, 2016, 06:28:50 pm »
I have  a weird problem that I can't seem to get my head around.

I'm using RTF templates with some script fragments. Now usually the first time I generate a document I get an error (or more) and some of the content from the script fragments has not been generated. Not all of it mind you. Some parts (using the same script fragment template) generate just fine, but other don't.

When I try that a second time it (almost always) generates perfectly fine.
What do they say again about someone who does exactly the same thing but expects a different outcome ???

It feels like the script engine has to "warm up" before it is ready to really do the job. :-\
Running the script manually always works just fine.

Anyone had the same problem, or has an idea how to solve it?

Anyway here's the script I use in the script fragment

Code: [Select]
'[path=\Projects\Project A\Template fragments]
'[group=Template fragments]

Bugs and Issues / newlines dissappeared from script fragment
« on: February 26, 2016, 12:59:42 am »
Since version 12.1.1227 or 12.1.1228 ALL newlines are being stripped from script fragments that return formatted text.
In version 12.1.1226 it was still OK.

Bug reported.

Bugs and Issues / Setting up automatic checkout of shared license
« on: January 18, 2016, 07:47:48 pm »
We tried to setup some clients for automatic checkout of shared licenses, but apparently there's an error in the deployment whitepaper with regards to the registry settings needed to change.

In the whitepaper it says to set the registry key
"AutoCheckoutEx"=hex:1a,00,00,00

Whereas my tests revealed that it started working when we set the key to
"AutoCheckoutEx"=hex:02,00,00,00

I've sent an email to support about this.

Bugs and Issues / Navigability information lost on associations
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:00:44 pm »
When I change the navigability of one of the ends of an association EA correctly changes the arrow of the associations to show the updated navigability.
Until I close and re-open the diagram. Then suddenly the navigability information is lost ???
I can now only change the navigability by changing the "direction" on the association level.

This seems to happen in v12.1 (1225) but not in v12 (1215)

Reported as bug

I have a very simple example model. A bi-directional association between Class1 and Class2
Class1[1..1]<------->[1..*]Class2
Now I want to generate an XML Schema for this.
I would expect Class1 to reference Class2, and vice-versa, Class2 to reference Class1
But for some reason I only get Class1 that references Class2, but not the other way around.
This is what I get
Code: [Select]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<xs:element name="Class1" type="Class1"/>
<xs:complexType name="Class1">
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="Class2" type="Class2" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:complexType>
<xs:element name="Class2" type="Class2"/>
<xs:complexType name="Class2">
<xs:sequence/>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:schema>

And this is what I was expecting
Code: [Select]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<xs:element name="Class1" type="Class1"/>
<xs:complexType name="Class1">
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="Class2" type="Class2" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:complexType>
<xs:element name="Class2" type="Class2"/>
<xs:complexType name="Class2">
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="Class1" type="Class1" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:schema>
Anyone know how to massage EA into getting it to produce the latter?

Thanks

Bugs and Issues / Cannot use two Schema Composer addins together
« on: January 07, 2016, 03:42:16 am »
Apparently you cannot have two working Schema composer add-ins at the same time.
I first activated Rodrigo's example, which worked fine.
Then I activated mine, and suddenly "Rods Canonical Model" is no longer available and only my schema set is available next to the standard schema sets.

I'll report the bug.

Bugs and Issues / Schema composer automation broken in v12.1
« on: January 06, 2016, 06:32:02 am »
I'm writing (or trying to anyway) an add-in to extend the Schema Composer.
I checked the documentation (after I finally found it), and Rodrigo's example, but for some reason I couldn't get the import formats to appear when pressing the Generate button.

After trying the the SC Addin example from the program files folder, and the example downloaded from Rodrigo's site I saw that both of them didn't work either.

I rolled back from v12.1.1225 to 21.1.1224 but still no luck.
After rolling back to v 12.0.1214 it started working again.

I'll report it as a bug. I must say I'm off to a very bad start for the first day on my new project  :-\

I was just looking for the API documentation in order to create a Schema Composer add-in, so naturally I looked at the Automation and Scripting Chapter in the Manual.
Much to my surprise I didn't find anything at all :o

Looking further I a little bit of documentation in the Schema Composer Chapter

@Roy, can you please set this straight?

There's also an error in the operation definition:

Code: [Select]
bool
EA_IsSchemaExporter (EA.Repository, ref string displayName);

The first parameter doesn't have a name.

Thanks

Bugs and Issues / Bug empty script fragments without newlines
« on: December 30, 2015, 08:24:42 pm »
When using multiple script fragments after each other in an RTF template I have to add a empty line between them.
If I don't do that I get the template's names in my document in case some of my script fragments don't have any content.

The result is that i have too many empty lines in my generated document.

Suggestions and Requests / Lock owned elements as well
« on: September 08, 2015, 05:15:08 pm »
When using security in EA locking a package will lock all directly owned elements, and will request if it needs to lock owned packages as well.

Unfortunately this same behavior doesn't happen when locking an element. If an element has owned elements then you have to lock them one by one manually (which can be quite cumbersome)

I would like EA to automatically lock all owned elements when locking an element, or at least give me the option.

Suggestions and Requests / Entry and join and stepnumber in RTF templates
« on: September 09, 2015, 04:35:38 pm »
When generating documents for use case scenario's there are a few things that I'm missing.
  • Entry points
  • Joins
  • Step numbers
It would be nice if we could get that info into the documents without having to write custom SQL or script fragments.

Feature request sent.

Suggestions and Requests / Open multiple search windows
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:18:42 pm »
I would love to be able to open multiple search windows at once.
I often have the situation where I have one "main" search result, but that I have to do other searches as well. Now i always have tot re-run my "main" search to keep my results.

Suggestions and Requests / Open "Select Item" dialog to API
« on: September 25, 2009, 10:44:35 pm »
I would love to be able to start the "Select Item" dialog from the API, and be able to get the results back as EA.Element (or .Operation, .Attribute etc...)
I think this would be a very usefull addition.

Who's with me?

Suggestions and Requests / Multilanguage support
« on: March 04, 2009, 06:07:10 pm »
It would be nice if EA would allow to configure different languages and allow each user-entered text field (including names of elements) to be translated in the configured languages.
This is a requirement that is common in multinationals and countries (like Belgium) that have multiple languages.
Although I hated having to work with Mega the last year, that was one of few advantages they have on EA.
