General Board / Re: Database Builder: More than on connection
« on: June 09, 2017, 07:36:02 am »
No.  The Database Builder can only compare an EA data model with a live database...

Maybe you are using a 64-bit Oracle client.  EA only works with 32-bit clients.

Select your table in the Database Builder, select your identity column, set AutoNum to true in column properties list at lower left.

Ribbon > Start > Search > Search in Model.  Third icon after the Go arrow to get to the SQL Scratch Pad.

As well as replacing the square brackets with double quotes, CONCAT could also be the problem. Maybe ...
Code: [Select]
SELECT CONCAT(t_object.ea_guid, t_object.Name)or...
Code: [Select]
SELECT t_object.ea_guid || t_object.Nameor...
Code: [Select]
SELECT t_object.ea_guid, t_object.Name

Grant users ALTER permission on the t_image table...
Code: [Select]
GRANT ALTER ON [dbo].[t_image] TO <eauser>;
Image IDs are unique, t_image.ImageID is an IDENTITY column, and inserting an image into the t_image table therefore requires execution of SET IDENTITY_INSERT t_image ON/OFF, which requires ALTER permission on the table.

1. Is it possible to generate DDL without having a active database connection? How?

2. Can I import DDL into the Database Builder package?.

3. I am having problems creating views. Is there anyone that has blogged or written any instructions on how to do this? I am thinking drag-and-drop database classes from the repository and link them together graphically. Is that possible.

Is the column also part a foreign key? That's what pfk means.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Alter Table (SQL DDL)
« on: December 19, 2004, 05:25:48 pm »
We are considering adding ALTER TABLE DDL generation in the future. An option to compare the existing data model with an ODBC source will be included - would that satisfy your needs?

Suggestions and Requests / Re: DDL to manage a changing schema

Unfortunately, it won't be available for 6.5. :(

As Michael pointed out, simple Alter is not viable if data is to be preserved. I think most users would want the alter DDL statements to preserve data in the target DB.

Also, there is referential integrity to consider, as well as dependent views and stored procedures. Do we do like SQL Server and simply warn that dependent objects may break, or do we parse all objects and make the appropriate changes?

Any comments would be welcomed.  :)
