Suggestions and Requests / A few items I'd like to see
« on: July 13, 2004, 04:14:18 pm »
  • In the operations list box at the bottom of the operations detail form I'd like to see the parameter list for each operation.  Chasing down overrides is difficult with just the name, return type and scope.
  • A way to link external requirements from within the element details form requirements tab.
  • A way to move an external requirement back into an element as an internal requirement. (perhaps copying it back might be the way to go)
  • Scope descriptions based on the element language. (I'm too old to rememeber what "internal" translates to.
  • Methods and Attributes available for GUI elements
  • Link appearance settable from the Format Toolbar
  • The ability to attach existing notes to links
  • The ability to create test items and maintenance items for links.
  • Message endpoints in collaboration (communication) diagrams to allow modelling Lost/Found messages.
  • Some (better) way to re-use messages, specifically event signals in communication diagrams.
  • Access to element test items and maintenance items from the element context menu.
  • [glb]Have I mentioned mulitple select recently[/glb]

When a class parent is selected (via the Set Element Parent ctrl+I method) it would save me lot of trouble if there was an option on the Type heirarchy form to "automatically" add the selected element to the diagram.

Any support?

Suggestions and Requests / Set Run State improvement
« on: May 24, 2004, 05:02:12 pm »
May I suggest that the Set Run State function be extended to include modelling the values returned by Property methods.

Consider an object with a derived property.   That is, the value returned is dependent on some processing of the objects attributes.  For example, "isInCredit" is a boolean value calculated, say, from the attributes "account_balance", "outstanding_credit_notes", "forward_orders" etc.

At the moment all these attribute values have to be set and shown on the diagram and there is no way to simply indicate the value returned by the property.

One could add a "virtual" attribute to the class for the purposes of the model, but the purist in me says there has to be a better way.

Any support?

Suggestions and Requests / Excluding senseless classifiers
« on: April 19, 2004, 04:39:41 pm »
Would it be a good idea to have some way of excluding certain classes from the Set Element Classifier (ctl+L) list.

For example, virtual documents should not be classifiers.  We have a set of these (over 20) in our default template project and they are positioned at the top of the list.

Similarly, should classes that are sealed or "leaf" be optionally excluded from the list?  (I am not sure about this one.)

Suggestions and Requests / link notes wont move
« on: March 25, 2004, 10:20:03 pm »
That is, the position of the note link on the association line cant be moved.

[obj]----x---------------------[obj]
                                                              \
                                                                \
                                                               [Note]

This, coupled with collaboration message lengths is making the diagrams unreadable.

We need to be able to both move the attachment point on the association line and to "bend" the note link line.

Suggestions and Requests / Collaboration message reformatting
« on: March 25, 2004, 10:15:27 pm »
Could we please be allowed to format the collaboration message layout like a normal pice of text.

I have messages that are now longer that the page width due to the parameter typeing in .NET!

Suggestions and Requests / Quicklink to an elements diagram
« on: March 25, 2004, 08:59:41 pm »
You know what I think would be a good idea?

On the context menu for any element, include an item that would open or go to the "home" diagram for the element.

I know you can "Locate Element in the Browser" and then select the (hopefully) nearby diagram, but I keep the project browser autohidden and sometimes the home diagram is quite a distance away from the element.

If anyone else likes this I will submit it to Sparx.

Suggestions and Requests / EA4 Feedback - several items
« on: March 09, 2004, 05:27:02 pm »
  • Now that connectors are "personalisable" on an instance basis I can draw really great diagrams and am glad to see EA moving towards improved treatment of the "edges" as well as the nodes.
It would be really a time saver though if appearance changes to several items (both nodes and edges) could be done with one select.  For example, I had 16 "refers to" links on a diag and 3 real associations, I wanted to detune the focus on the refers to by colouring them pinkish but I have to change each one one at a time
  • Similarly (sort of) it would help if the Format toolbar worked on links as well as elements.
  • Here's one for discussion!  Now that many elements can be made into Composites I would like to see an option that let the html output diagrams link from element to the composite diagram without going through the element details page.  What do others think?
  • Please can we have the "Used in" item back on the Project View context menu.

Suggestions and Requests / Visibility at the element level
« on: February 04, 2004, 02:16:27 pm »
I dont know if this has been suggested before but...

I sure would like to see the ability to show or hide the contents of any container element - particluarly packages - rather than to turn it on or off for the entire diagram.

Or at least have some sort of override on an element to force the contents visible.

In many diagrams the focus is on one (or a few) elements while the remiander are included for reference at the container level only.  For example, consider a component diagram detailing the structure of a specific component - the dependencies on other components needs to be shown but only at the top level - the contents of, say, a major system dll are irrelevant, we only need to see the dependency on the component (or a particular interface thereto).

Any supporters? ...

Suggestions and Requests / EA4 Close All Windows is too close!
« on: February 17, 2004, 01:46:52 pm »
Maybe I'm just not getting use to it quick enough, but the "close all windows" context menu item is too close to the "close this window" item.
I keep hitting the close all by mistake  :'(

Suggestions and Requests / Enhanced diagram history

It would be nice if the diagram history back/forward buttons had a drop down menu a la IE5+.

Suggestions and Requests / Maintenance items on associations
« on: September 09, 2003, 03:59:42 pm »
As opposed to Tony Kadom's problems with the EA maintenance items (Feature Overload thread) I find them a major plus.

However, there are just as many times that issues, changes etc. arise regarding an association link in a model as they do for the elements.

Having briefly looked at the way maintenance items are implemented for objects, I would imagine a similar implementation would achieve the result.

Surely a SMP (simple matter of programming) guys  ;)

I would like to see the ability for HTML and RTF templates to be imported  and exported easily.

General Board / Boo!
« on: April 06, 2013, 09:38:12 pm »
Hi,
Just a quick hello to say I'm still alive.
Back from the wild outback and looking forward to retirement. It's been a fantastic 4 or 5 years doing things I never thought I'd do ... even some things I never thought of at all.
I am moving to a small town outside Adelaide shortly, but over the next three weeks I'm going fishing down on the south coast.
Will get back to you all when I return.
Hope all the old "faces" are still around...

cheers
bruce (Just remember! Small B)
