Suggestions and Requests / Re: 8.0 diagram enhancements

Oh, and one more:

Allow the same element to be shown multiple times on the same diagram. This requires a clean separation between the definition of the element itself and its graphical representations on diagrams.

My tuppence(s):

1. Editing common properties of multiple selected items at the same time - very nice to have, for both elements and connectors.
2. Resizable ports!
3. Ability to reposition/change angle of realized interface "lollipops".
4. Layout fails to find elements completely "shadowed" by larger elements - s/b fixed.
5. Intersecting connectors - should have option to show "jumps" at crossings to make it clear that one connector is passing over another.
6. Difficulty at times in selecting elements nested graphically within other elements - provide pop-up dialog to resolve "ambiguous" selections?
7. Connector ortho only mode!

Note that some of these are "aye" votes for suggestions already posted in this thread.

The fact that EA has grown "organically" over all these years means that some patches are overgrown while others are a bit sparse. I for one would like to see tagged value notes left as plain text, however, since the Notes field is used for the value of a {memo} field & I sometimes like to store XML there and would prefer that EA not muck with it.

Suggestions and Requests / Ports and interface "lollipops"

It would be very useful to be able to show provided and required interfaces owned by ports at an angle to avoid graphical interference with each other and with connectors.

Suggestions and Requests / C Code Engineering
« on: March 07, 2011, 11:06:27 am »
A few requests regarding reverse engineering of less-than-well-crafted C code:

1. An option should be provided to allow imported .c and .h files to be treated as entirely independent entities, even if the file names are the same. Not all real-world C modules consist of neat .h-.c file pairs. At present, it seems that EA assumes it needs to import all entities in identically named .h-.c file pairs; this doesn't always work for all code. Function prototypes for a given .c file may at times be found in the same .c file or may be in a completely unrelated (by name, at least) .h file. I've also seen .c files used as #include files. Whether or not this is good practice isn't the issue - it is the practice in some cases, good or not.

2. EA assumes that variables and functions defined only in a .c file are private, and that all such definitions in a .h file are public. Again, this isn't a valid assumption in all cases. An option should be provided to treat only external (i.e. not in a function definition) static variables and functions as private.

I amend that slightly - it must also allow links to previous nodes in the tree (loops)!

I totally agree. The structured scenario should behave like an XML tree - any decision node should have as many branches and child nodes as it wants / needs.

If you haven't done so already, post a formal feature request using the link at the bottom of the forum page.

Good one!

No, I don't, but others may (and we know of at least one who does). Just sayin.

I vote for having the option for a prompt before closing, perhaps defaulting to "do not prompt".

Different strokes fer different folks, as my grandpappy useta say. (Actually, he didn't.) But I can sympathize; I can't recall the number of times, after copying a block of text with Ctrl+C, I then mess up the paste by hitting Ctrl+C again instead of Ctrl+V. Perhaps more gifted typists rarely, if ever, make that error, but my fumbling fingers are prone to.

Except that in the "EA Ecumenical" edition you have the option of substituting the religious leader of your choice for the Pope.

I must say I agree. That's what I'm still a patient EA user...

It's the price you pay for not having to pay the price.

No worries, no offense taken! If you browse the forum you'll no doubt find many threads discussing inclusive vs. exclusive or and a host of other semantic topics.

In the particular case of New Hampshire, however, I think General John Stark meant it as an {XOR} constraint when he used the phrase in the following toast before the Battle of Bennington in 1777: "Live Free Or Die; Death Is Not The Worst of Evils." Of course he wasn't going to be in the battle, so it was easy for him to say!
