Bugs and Issues / new associations or links in diagrams
« on: October 02, 2009, 11:14:29 pm »
Hello,

we observe a very annoying behavior in EA.

Let`s say you have two ( e.g. component) diagrams D1 and D2.
Both contain components A and B.
A and B have no association or other kind of links.
Than add an association from A to B in one diagram (D1)
When we switch to D2, the new association is also visible in the other diagram D2.

This is not desired.
This is the more annoying the more diagrams you have.
In this case we have to parse through all other diagrams and hide the new connector.

Is this behavior configurable?
If not, please fix this.
Diagrams show context information and nobody wants do see every connector in every diagram.
And if somebody want's it, he can unhide the existing association in the relevant context.

Showing every new connector in every existing diagram automatically is pretty ugly, if it is not configurable.

Bugs and Issues / Repair EAP File
« on: September 16, 2009, 08:10:20 pm »
Hello,

if one wants to repair an EAP-File, it is not possible to repair it, when the EAP file is currently loaded.

That makes sense.

But it doesn't make sense that one must open any EAP file, to be able to repair another EAP file.

It should be possible to repair EAP files without having loaded any other EAP file.

Please fix this.

Bugs and Issues / Packaging Components
« on: August 14, 2009, 07:23:52 pm »
Hello,

I started to use the packaging components, because they are realy what we needed in the high level system architecture.

The pain is, that we can not use them in sequence diagrams.

This is a pitty.
Is there anything known, that this will change?

Bugs and Issues / importing state diagrams from rose to ea fails
« on: October 28, 2008, 06:34:07 pm »
Hello,

we are importing rational rose files (xml) into ea 7.1.832.
The original rose state diagrams contain signal names (transition names).

In the imported EA diagram, the signal names (transition names) are lost. Not only in the diagram, the model just does not contain them.

Does anybody know some workaround for that feature?

I already issued a bug report today.

Michael

Bugs and Issues / split sequence diagram
« on: November 20, 2008, 07:48:59 pm »
Hi,

we have some sequence diagrams which became pretty long now.

Is there an easy way to split these large diagrams into a couple (at least 2) sequence diagrams?

Referencing other diagrams is pretty simple, but splitting seems to be impossible (at least to me).

Bugs and Issues / clearcase and EA 7.1 830
« on: June 17, 2008, 04:39:50 pm »
Hello,

we are using clearcase 6 clients and have some problems with EA in the following way.

Unreserved checkouts are a very important need for our team development.

So User A checksout version X of a package and modifies it
in the EA project file.
User A closes EA.

Than User B checksout the same version X of the package and modifies it in the EA projekt file and closes EA.

User A reopens EA project and his changes are lost, because B has overridden his changes.

Is this a feature or a bug?

Michael

Bugs and Issues / generate sequence diagrams from debugger
« on: April 23, 2008, 07:06:45 pm »
Hello,

we have a generic architecture, where the needed components are loaded at runtime via configuration files. So the components are of course not listed in the assembly manifest.

Now we want to create some sequence diagrams to track the method calls in some of this dynamic components.

So we configured debug scripts at the package  to attach to the running process.

When all dynamic components are loaded we try to start the debugger and set breakpoints.

When we set the breakpoints, the breakpoints always have the question mark (not attached!). When we open the module tab in the debug workbench, our dynamic modules are not listed.

When we open an external process explorer, we see our modules loaded, and when debugging  in devstudio everything is fine.

Is this a problem of the debug workbench, because of the missing assembly manifest entries?

Is there some other magic trick?

We have c#.net assemblies.

Any hints would be helpfull.
Thank you.

Bugs and Issues / BUG in version control handling?
« on: December 13, 2007, 06:27:49 am »
Hello,

we have an very ugly behaviour related to version controlled packages.

Let's say we have this package structure on an arbitrary
node level

A - A1
 - A2
 - A3

so A1 to A3 are childs of A.

All packages are version controlled (clearcase).
We have the save nested version controlled packages to stubs only option set.

What happens:

When we import an elder version of A, ALL subnodes of A are
unloaded, in a way, that A1 to A3 are visible, but empty.

What we have to do is reimporting all subnodes too.
This is the same when we turn off the save nested packages option.

This is unbearable for team colaboration and can not be.

What are we doing wrong?

We want to load (import) A, but of course without loosing the contents of all subnodes?

Bugs and Issues / Bug in use case metrics reports
« on: October 29, 2007, 12:54:00 am »
Hello,

I found two bugs in the use case metrics reports.

When you generate the report you get some tables.
One of them is in the section
Environmental Complexity Factors.

The last column header int the report is called TCF!

This is wrong! it must be EF!

The second bug is the nomenclature sparx uses. It is wrong.

The use case metrics are based on Gustav Karners Use case Point method.

He introduced technical complexity factors, describing the complexity of the SW-project (TCF).

He also introduce environmental factors  (EF) and NOT environmental COMPLEXITY factors.

The environmental factors describe the poductivity of the team and has nothing to do with complexity.

Therefore the name must be EF and the column header must be EF.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Package Control, Get All Latest
« on: November 26, 2009, 10:07:59 pm »
Hello,

I would like to implement a Get All Latest, automated during or after model load.

I have two questions:

Which interface do I have to use to be able triggering sort of this method GetAllLatest(...)?

Is there a way to call it automatically during or after loading process of the model?

I can not find the API for these topics.

Please give me some hints or links to the API topics.

Thank you.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / EA 7.0 and clearcase
« on: October 08, 2007, 09:22:18 pm »
Hello,

we observed some (in our point fo view) strange behaviour.

Szenario:

One EAP file
two parallel packages
both of them are under clearcase (cc) control.
both of them are checked out.

Now we move a class from package A to package B.
Now close EA.

If we compare the xml files of the packages A and B with its predecessor in CC, NO differences are found.

Thus we have problems checking them in, because CC is telling us, that they are identical.

When we reopen EA all changings are still there.
When we now check in packages via EA and compare the xml files, the changes are visible as differences.

It seems, that the changings are written to the eap file, and only a checkin via EA is possible.

Is that correct?

If yes, this is not usefull for team development.
We have to work with the clearcase tool to handle all the other artefacts belonging to the project too. And this has to be done with clearcase.

How can we enforce EA to write the changes into the XML file, so that we can checkin with CC?

Regards
Michael
