Sorry, all, for reopening this old issue. I am currently working with EA 12.0 and the problem still exists. If it's a bug I would be pleased if it will be fixed.

Suggestions and Requests / Search in Linked Documents
« on: January 23, 2006, 02:09:36 am »
hi all, does EA provide the opportunity to search (see: model search (ctrl-F)) for keywords in linked documents? I as an analyst document changes to the elements there and the programmers should be able to find the affected elements in an easy way.
thx Stefan

OK, it seems to be a bug (and not a feature) and so I reported it to sparx

Suggestions and Requests / quick linker: action -> object
« on: September 20, 2006, 02:07:08 am »
hi sparx,

the quick linker is really a great feature! However, when using the quick linker to draw a connection from an action to an object, the popup window option "object flow" seems to be missing. TMO the window should have the same items as the popup window that appears when drawing an object-to-action connection.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Quick link UC->Actor
« on: June 12, 2006, 10:41:26 am »
The use case diagram itself is static. It just shows who (actor) has something to do with the desired behavior, that is described inside the use case. And it shows that the behavior uses additional behavior from other use cases (include, extend). The use case diagram is not a flow.

IMO to "trigger" a use case is OK. This association with the arrowhead pointing from an actor to a use case highlights the one and only one association, that starts the behavior that is expressed in the diagram. Any further flow is inside the use cases.

The OMG's UML2.0-Specification says nothing about directed associations from actor to use case or vv. I guess it was in RUP, where I read it or in a publication about RUP. I'll add it in this forum when I've found s.th. Until then I say, you can go ahead with using directed associations from actor to use case. But only one actor "is involved in AND triggers", all other actors are just "involved in" the diagrams purpose.

What I mean actually with my question: drawing a directed association from Actor to UC indicates (to me) that the Actor triggers the UC (Student->Enroll Course) while one from UC to Actor will indicate that within the UC the denoted Actor is "being used/needed" (Enroll Course->Schedule).

Thomas,
the semantics of an association from an actor to a use case is "is involved in". It is usually undirected or bidirectional, which is probably the same. If the actor is source and the use case is target or vice versa has no meaning at all (unless you define one for your own projects use). However, as you mentioned above, you have the opportunity to make the association directed from the actor to the use case, having the additional semantics that actor triggers the use cases behavior. But a use case can never trigger an actor (nor human neither system) because an actor is a role (unless you assume the user is sleeping in front of his monitor until the software wakes him up by beeping and flashing to get him to enter some data).

Suggestions and Requests / Re: RTF-generation: connection guard and weight
« on: November 30, 2005, 11:00:21 pm »
hmmm .... in the object or control flow properties I find two tabs: General and Constraints. In the Constaints tab I only have Guard and Weight, no name, note, type. In the RTF-generators template I only find name, note, type (right-mouse-click in the ConnConstaints area), but no guard, no weight ???

Guard and weight of a connection (e.g. a control or object flow used in an activity diagram) should be possible to generate in a report.

BTW: What is {ConnConstraint.Name}, {ConnConstraint.Notes}, {ConnConstraint.Type}?

I did so. Sparx answered: This seems to be a bug and we will have it fixed for our next release of EA.

Suggestions and Requests / "link this note to an element feature" a
« on: April 11, 2006, 07:00:04 am »
While exporting our oracle-based repository to XML, the "link this note to an element feature" option at the notes link seems to get lost. Afted importing the XML-file the text is copied into the text box and text box is not protected.

Nearly the same for "Link to Diagram Note". The link is lost and the text box is empty and not protected.

Any suggetions?

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Linked document indication om elements
« on: March 16, 2006, 09:30:21 am »
it's an advantage that you can see in the context menu (right-mouse-click) if there is a linked document or not, but a 'grafical indication' at an element in a diagram will be greater.

Suggestions and Requests / Event name should be movable
« on: December 07, 2005, 07:51:21 am »
The name of a time-, send- or receive-event in an activity diagram should be resizable and movable. Specially when the time event is from a foreign package, the package name and the time event name are one upon the other.

General Board / Re: Export/import XMI loses Realization links
« on: March 12, 2014, 10:34:07 pm »
Sparx support offered me to examine the XML file but I was not allowed to send files to outside of the company.

With some help of of my collegues I found a connector with a guard condition having a lenght of 256 chars. I shortened it to 255 chars and the problem was solved. @SPARX: please fix this isue.
