General Board / Activity diagram
« on: March 22, 2006, 03:27:23 pm »
Hi

This might sound stupid, but I have learned that there are never stupid questions. I have to create around 10 different Activity diagrams with a lot of activities in it.

So here are the questions:

1) When I drag an activitiy into the diagram, it comes up with a standard shape, which is too big of how I want them, then I have to make it smaller every time. It happens every time with each activity I keep adding. Now I am comfortable with the size it has, lets say I add a new activity. What I have to do is to select the new big and the old ones (the size I want) and then select them all, right click and select same heighth and width and I get the size I want for the new one.
Is there a way to pre-select the size the of the activity, so it comes up every time with a pre-select size.

2) Each Activity, has notes and different tabs like: Require, Constraint, Scenearios which I am adding a lot of stuff in here. My question is:
How can I see all this either in EA without going into each activity and double click on it ; or export it into a Word doc to see all of this.

3) Example :I will be addding  2 activities. To add a first and last name in a screen. This activity will be to enter first and last name when adding a member. But when adding a spouse, the last name will be reused and pre-populated with member last name but the first name will be blank.

Question:

I added a Scenario in First Name:
Input for member
Blank for spouse

I added a Scenario in Last Name:
Input for member
show member last name, let overwrite

How can I expressed all this in an activity diagram
and then export it to word.

I have done this in document as a Business Analyst,  but I want to use EA on this project and have EA document the developers.

Hope some one give me a hand on this and thanks in advance. Sorry for the long message.

Jose

Bugs and Issues / Re: Use Cases Scenario

qwerty

I am not saying that is incomplete, but best pratices dominates.
You can have one basic (Happy) path and as many alternates needed, same for exceptions.

Hopelly in the near future Sparx (EA) can introduce that feature and make our world easier, so when the path is generated it will pick up that alternate from the alternate branch.

I also agree with Simon.
When creating Use Case the alternate or exception should be complete, in other words no alternate out of alternate.
The reason I say this, when creating the test cases you should have complete and individual test cases for each alternate or exception.

I know is not ideal, dissagreen with q and Geert, but it has proven is better for QA to test each path.
My 2 cents

In your General Tab, select the Database from the drop down and you will see how at the Tabkle detail - colum/attributes your drop down is populated.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Working with struc. UC scenarios
« on: August 02, 2012, 02:21:34 am »
Hi All

I have being using UC Structured Spec for long time also, and us ethe Uses and Results columns for Busines Rules and Log events that should result at the stpe level.
It works pretty nice when the Internal Test Case are generated from the UC.
I give a 9 out of 10, what I don't like is the extra space EA adds to either columns, when more than one Business Rule is added, lets say I add 2 or more Business Rules (which are actions) EA adds extra space to the step.

Uml Process / Re: Use Case - Primary / Secondary Actors
« on: September 18, 2012, 01:04:35 am »
Hi

I will tell you how I have managed this complex situation.
Actor - in General Tab just say this Actor can be a User, Super User, Help User and so on. Or create different actors per user.

Use cases - in each Use Case create a Constraint per actor what can he can do or not do in this Use Case. This way you can have a Precondition per  User.
Hope this help.

Hi

Put all of your UC under a package
Create an empty diagram
drag the package to the diagram
add the actor
connect the actot to the package
voila, you are done.

The package will list all UC names

Uml Process / Re: Use case diagram basic and alternate flows for
« on: May 10, 2008, 02:34:39 am »
If I understand you correctly, this would be modeled as a basic path with a business rule in each flow.

Basic Path
1. System A sends a message
2. If message has rule x  is routed to System B
3. If message has rule y  is routed to System C

You can add an Activity Diagarm to this Use Case with a fork to route the message.

Hope it helps, but remember there are different ways to create this.
This is just one way.

Why don't you look at RaQuest, is an add-on for EA.
I think this will let you do what you want.

Uml Process / Activity Diagram
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:05:44 am »
Hi guys

I have done a lot of Activity Diagrams in my life, but the process I used to do is to export the image to the Business Requirement Document (BRD) and then create a Table with 3 columns: Activity, User and System.
Each Activity column will represent each activity in the diagram, also they will have or not a description in the user column  and system column.

What I would like to do is to include the User and System description inside each activity, I don't want to add it as a Note in the General tab of the Activity Property . Also going to other tabs is not a Require Type, or Constraint Type or Scenario Type.
Maybe can be added as an Operation USER or SYSTEM
I don't see a way to do this, can someone help me on this.

My ultimate goal is that EA creates the BRD without creating the table and adding the description, just export it form EA.

Thanks in advance ???

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Re: MS Word Import tool ?
« on: October 26, 2013, 01:31:54 am »
Hi Stefan

Do a search in EA Help -> CSV, Import

It tells you how to import from an excel file that was save as as a csv, it is very simple just create columns as the example, and voila import into EA. You have to copy or convert your word doc into excel columns.
