Suggestions and Requests / Re: Search Based on Diagram Selected
« on: December 19, 2009, 11:48:22 am »
Michael - thanks for the script. I got it to run - small step for others but a major leap forward in my learning curve for EA scripting.

Just interested - would it be possible to distinguish - through code - the "visible" connectors from all connectors on a diagram?

Errm, on my way to work I actually drive past a construction site and I am not quite sure but that beast lookes almost the same as the device with which they tar the road. Well, that one has wheels, but besides that, it looks rather similar  8-) ;D

Oliver

:) - The coffee that comes out of my machine could well be used to tar the road ...

I confess. I have drunk International Roast in my life. When I was desperate.

Coffee is not a beverage.

It's a recreational drug.

Umm. That's a welcome "how to" tutorial. And good. As far as it goes.

But (and you've heard me say this before) - I know how to make the user interface work. (Some of it, any way...)

What I'd really like to see are "goal oriented" streaming video+audio tutorials that start with questions like:

"So you want to use Sparx EA and the MDG TOGAF add-in to help you manage your Enterprise Architecture process? No problem! Let's get started. Here's how."

I suppose if I was clever and ambitious, I'd create these videos myself and sell them over the Internet. That way, I could eventually afford to live in Creswick and drive a Mas ... Holden Ute.

Change topic:

Living the pure life in Creswick does have a few downsides, I guess.

Here's your solution to the "flat white" problem:

You buy one of these beasts:

And get your beans sent up from these guys:

http://www.melbournegastronome.com/2009/06/seven-seeds-melbournes-newest-coffee.html

You just need a good grinder.

Problem solved.

International Roast? Ay-yi-yi...

Great idea. I've been wondering where the "blank page" video / sound demos are for years.

The technology is available (Camtasia Studio) and examples of good quality eLearning abound (lynda.com).

Such videos could only increase market penetration.

The people in Creswick, Victoria will be amazed to see all the local Sparxians parking their new Maseratis in front of the Smokeytown Cafe to pick up their lattes.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Diagram View - Element Placement
« on: December 04, 2009, 10:42:20 am »
Horizontal and vertical guidelines that you can move around - like in Visio. With 'snap to guideline' behaviour. That would be nice. Feature request. Maybe in version 94 that'll happen...

Just to be sure - the following doesn't help?

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Better rendering of crossing connectors
« on: November 26, 2009, 11:11:10 pm »
Don't use "right angle" lines. Use straight lines. If they cross over an element, I'm okay with that.

This doesn't completely solve the problem, but it reduces it significantly.

Don't use the automatic layout function.

This is only a problem for very large diagrams with many connectors.

I create only one "kitchen sink" diagram where this is a problem.

Alll my "real work" is done in smaller "domain" diagrams where I can manage this problem far more easily.

Hope this helps.

Suggestions and Requests / Separate forum for MDG TOGAF Add-in
« on: October 21, 2009, 03:14:52 pm »
Hi Sparxians

I'm going to suggest that we create a new, separate discussion thread for users of the MDG Add-ins. I'm thinking specifically of the TOGAF and Zachman add-ins.

Currently, any discussion relating to how to use the TOGAF MDG Add-ins would fall in amongst fairly technical discussions in the "Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools" forum.

What I would be interested in is encouraging people who are using the TOGAF MDG add-in for business purposes (not developer technical folk) to be able to share knowledge.

I'm thinking the Zachman MDG Add-In would warrant a separate forum thread on it's own. Most questions I can think of for Zachman would be fairly orthogonal to questions relating to the TOGAF add-in.

What say you?

Transparency. That's a good word. We should have more transparency.  ;)

I support this. It would be useful in what I'm doing.

Thanks for setting out the explanation of the request as completely and as accurately as you have, Uffe.

I too would like to add my name to the list of people endorsing this request.

Thanks for your comments, I am actually just off to delivery a DocGen training course for EA.

I will post some tips and tricks regarding styles and tables

There is some anomoly between the RTF styles Heading1 etc and Word Heading1 (at least in Word 2007)

If I have chosen Heading2 in RTF, then it appears as Heading3 in word and uses the settings in Word rather than in RTF. I will conduct some more tests and post the results.

This should be towards the end of the week

Phil - your tips on using the RTF editor are greatly appreciated. Why don't you fly out to Australia and do a seminar here?

 :D

I think if Sparx were to create a video presentation that showed how to use the rtf editor - I'd be able to catch on.

Just need a 10 minute or so demo of how to do it. Then I would probably be able to catch on.

But trying to interpret the documentation is ... difficult.

Candid but accurate presentation of the facts, I'd say.
