On a similar note to the constraints problem, tagged values don't seem to be imported for associations.

Geoff,

Some more comments/queries:

1) How does EA handle the stereotypes with similar names being defined in more than one profile? For example, the database profile has stereotypes called Server, and Table. EA already has stereotypes called server and table built in. When I use my Table stereotype, the properties dialog shows table (lower case t) rather than Table, and the stereotype does not show on the diagram.

2) My initial assumption with the metafiles was that is was for icons rather than to display the object graphically, so I added some to my profile. I have now removed them from the profile XML document and re-imported it, but EA still places the metafiles on the diagram.

Cheers,

Stephen

Having said that, I've thought of a "nice-to-have". How about being able to associate an icon with a stereotype, ie with a view to displaying it in the top right corner of a class?

Geoff,

The composition thing should be all I need to complete the Database Profile. I may find other things when I come to look at the EJB profile in detail, but from a first glance through it I'm not expecting anything.

Thanks,

Stephen

Is it possible to apply stereotypes to aggregations and compositions? I'm trying to write an XML file for the UML Profile for Database Design, and it requires that an "Identifying relationship" is created with a stereotype of <<Identifying>> on a composite aggregation.

Geoff,

Looks good, and I think it will meet the requirements I've been talking to you about.

A couple of questions/issues:

1) EA doesn't seem to import constraints properly (can't get them to show up in the dialogs).

2) Is there an XML schema describing the format of a profile XML document?

Cheers,

Stephen

General Board / Re: Effective Use Cases
« on: May 14, 2002, 05:20:40 am »
I too am keen on Alistair's work on use cases. My current thinking is to simply paste the text version of Alistair's use case template into the "Note" field of EA's use case dialog. I'm inclined to think that lots of fields and drop-down lists can confuse the process.

As MattD says, use cases are textual, and I think it may be better to handle them as such, ie: a single entity rather than split into their constituent parts. This could be done quite elegantly if EA allowed one to specify a text file as a template for the Note field of the use case dialog.

General Board / Modelling UML Schemas
« on: February 22, 2002, 04:02:16 am »
Hi,

Is anyone aware of a standard way of modelling XML Schemas using the UML? I have found a document on the Rational site, but it is way out of date.

Something like this would be a useful addition to EA.

General Board / Re: Recursive calls on Sequence Diagram

Geoff,

I have tried your suggestion, but the model still only shows one activity bar on the object being called recursively. I note that if an object calls itself recursively an additional activity bar is shown in parallel to the original one - I was hoping for something like this.

On that topic, I note that when that additional activity bar is shown one cannot select which activity bar is the source of a further call. Is there a way of doing this?

Stephen

Perhaps I had better provide an example. This is not quite the same, but if you look at Figure 36 at http://www.informatik.fh-luebeck.de/~st/UML/UML1.1/notation7.html, ob4:C4 shows activities running in parallel. What I wondered was how to do this in EA.

Thanks

General Board / Recursive calls on Sequence Diagram

How does one show the following on a sequence diagram:

Object 1 calls Method A on Object 2.
Method A on Object 2 calls Method B on Object 1.

When I try to document this in EA, it seems to think that the call to Method B is actually Method A returning...

I guess what I'm asking is how do you represent parallel activities on an object?

Thanks,

General Board / Asynchronous calls on Sequence Diagram
« on: February 01, 2002, 02:27:53 am »
Hi,

When I create an asynchronous call on a sequence diagram I find that the length of activation for the calling object extends to the length of activation for the object called asynchronously. Is this behaviour correct?

Stephen

Uml Process / Re: BPMN Common Processes
« on: May 10, 2014, 06:34:03 am »
Jacob, to make this work you need to set 3 values:

  • Set "activityType" to "Sub-Process"
  • Set "isCalledActivity" to "true"
  • Set "calledActivityRef" to the shared task

Have you set all 3?
