Does anyone trust ActiveX to run in their browser any more ?

User interface best practice is to have both...  ;)

But even I have to admit that with EA's vast functionality; creating unique, meaningful and context dependent keyboard shortcuts must tax the Sparxianss' ingenuity...  :D

If you are a *nix user, then keyboard shortcuts should be obvious:

Quote
align -c -h diagram.object.connector

Suggestions and Requests / Re: gcc __attribute__ on C import

Haven't tried it for __attribute__, but see if this lets you ignore the qualifier:

(In other words - always try searching the forum first [set Days = 9999] !!)

Suggestions and Requests / Re: BUG: Attribute/AssociationEnd NOT paired

Would be useful if these caveats found their way into the actual EA documentation.

In fact I would hope (time permitting) that all posts here would lead to either a bug raised, or an EA documentation update to clarify or include extra detail ... unless it was a clear case [tm] of RTFM.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: National (non-english) characters in models
« on: November 08, 2006, 01:21:45 am »
But you would need some means of perhaps setting it differently for different model subcomponents.

For example, the customer-facing aspects may require their own character codings, whereas the developers may require a different setting; maybe testers a third set; business modelling different again.

Just giving a difficult scenario ...

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Crazy Test Engineers
« on: September 20, 2006, 02:59:46 am »
Some time back I put in a request that Test be given another look in terms of EA features - in principle, every model element needs a test or some kind of verification (think V model).

Since it's so pervasive, it really needs another layer (think Photoshop) or means of visualisation so that diagrams don't get cluttered with dozens of tests appearing with the model elements.

Also you need to be able to demonstrate that every element (and package) has its corresponding verification element.

But you could also make a similar case in respect of Requirements ... and obviously each test should probably refer to a requirement.

In this ideal system, you would have traceability to requirements and verification for all aspects of your model.

Ever the optimist ...

Suggestions and Requests / OK, how about keyword expansion ?
« on: October 22, 2004, 03:18:45 am »
Yes, my suggestion is not perfect.

What I wanted was particularly for Requirements, as you might have guessed, and I would really benefit from some clever way to organise the hierarchical 'outline' style of numbering in a SRS-type document.

The existing linear numbering does not lend itself well to documentation, given the fact that you might create requirements in any old order throughout your subsystem requirements packages.

Maybe even allow the numbering to be package-relative or have expanded keywords ('%p' ?) in the Element name field.

More thought required - but more suggestions too !!
Thanks.

Suggestions and Requests / Structured Auto numbering
« on: October 06, 2004, 07:18:46 am »
For items like Requirements, it would be useful to be able to control Auto Element Naming (numbering) at the Package level, so that within a package, numbering could start at 0001 (or as required), with the prefix (possibly partially numeric) then being made different for each package.

An alternative would be to have a 'hierarchical numbering' option which would allow automatic numbering in the traditional structured 1.2.3.1 format where descending one (package) level would insert a '.' and restart the auto-numbering.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Time Zone

Incidentally, anyone got an earliest date on that 'not a bug, a feature' phrase ?

I can recall an occurrence in the "users' comments log" (an actual book) in my university computing service reception area, in 1977, made by (IIRC) Chris Thompson (username CET1) one of the postgrads.

So it must have been fairly common knowledge then.

;)This will be provided in the Turing Machine release of EA ;)

Suggestions and Requests / Re: SQLite

Yes, but I hope they make the versions selectable since not everyone is going to update their DB.

The better way really would be to have the whole thing customisable by features (e.g. supports views, supports ALTER TABLE etc. ...)

Don't Mac users have Virtual PC - http://www.apple.com/macosx/applications/virtualpc/ ?

I could, rather mischievously, add that EA should integrate better with Visio rather than exporting XMI ... :-) - after all, don't we all have copies of Visio on our systems ? [I don't]

But since RTF is something of a de facto lowest common denominator of formatted text (it even works in Wordpad !) I see it as a good thing to support, even if it does originate from a proprietary source (correct me?).

I can also see a case for a simple EA template creator, which is implicitly compatible with EA document generation - think of all the potential for problems if you created an RTF template in some other application which had a slightly different interpretation of some RTF element.

Since I've not used the new system though, I will now say no more.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Port to OS X?

Perhaps a Visio/UML user could correct me, but most relevant comments on this forum suggest that Visio can neither read another app's XMI, nor export XMI readable by another app - except Visio!
