General Board / Shape scripting documentation
« on: February 22, 2006, 06:02:21 am »
I have a feeling that the power of the shape scripting function has only been partially revealed.  In the help, there's "Commands (Version 1.0)" which lists a range of functions/operations,  however if you look at the examples you find things appearing such as

   layouttype =
   addSubShape()

which don't appear to be documented (unless I've missed something),  and it wouldn't surprise me if there's more missing from the help.   Anyone know where we can get a definitive list of what you can do with shape scripts ?

thanks

General Board / Comment header when generating DDL
« on: February 17, 2006, 01:32:21 am »
Generating DDL with comments makes EA include a header which contains something like "Generated by Enterprise Architect on <date>",  which is fine,  but is there anyway of tailoring how the header is generated (format/content etc..)  ?

Apologies if this is a stupid question and I've just missed the option somewhere.

General Board / EA 6, Discussion Forum and EA Lite
« on: November 18, 2005, 07:05:37 am »
The answer to this is probably no, however is it possible for users running EA Lite to participate in the project discussion forum even though they cannot update the model itself in any way ?

If it isn't possible could it be made possible ?
thanks

General Board / Status types on elements other than requirements
« on: February 09, 2006, 02:02:18 am »
This is really a follow on to :

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general;action=display;num=1139394413

for which Thomas gave me the answer.   On requirements and issues the shape of the symbol has the thin strip to the left which is used to display the colour coding on diagrams for the status of the element, and with everything set up properly this works a treat.   However, if I try to use the same method to show the status of say, Use Cases,  by ticking the "Use case" box in the "Applies to " dialogue available from Settings/General Types/Status Types,   this has no effect.  I guess this is because the Use Case oval shape doesn't have the thin strip to the left to display the colour coding.

So, the question is, for element types other than Requirements/Issues,  how do you get the status colour coding to appear ?

General Board / How to get status types to appear on diagrams
« on: February 08, 2006, 02:26:53 am »
Probably a silly question,  But I have a number of diagrams that contain requirements at different stages of approval etc..   but no colour coding appears on the diagram in the way that is implied from Settings/General Types/Status Types.

I've checked the "Applies to" settings as well for each status and "Requirement" is ticked in each case.
In short setting or changing the status on the requirements has no visible effect on the diagrams.

What am I missing or doing wrong ?
thanks

General Board / Apply Style vs Paste Appearance
« on: December 21, 2005, 08:41:39 am »
Does anyone know what the difference is between these 2 functions.  I can get "apply style" to work well from the format toolbar,  but can't get "paste appearance" which is on the diagram toolbar to do anything even though it becomes active if I right-click on a selected element and choose "Copy appeance to painter".

EA 6, build 780

General Board / EA6 and model corruption
« on: November 25, 2005, 04:37:14 am »
I recently upgraded to EA6 and have encountered the following problem/corruption with a model started with EA5.  This is the corporate edition, build 778 in a normal EAP file, no add-ins, no replication, no security with basically one user maintaining the model.

There was only one symptom, namely dragging  packages onto a diagram where they would appear either without showing their contents, or only partially showing their contents.  The diagram properties has "Show package contents" ticked.   No matter what I did (delete the element on the diagram, try again, add/delete elements within the package etc..) the same problem remained.

I then ran Data Integrity.  This found a number of issues all of which seemed to be recovered by the recover process.  I went back to the diagram, only to find the same problem existed.   It was worse however as I now seemed to have duplicates of the package I was dragging on, on the diagram - a condition that isn't allowed by EA normally.  It looked as though now I had a copy  on the diagram for each time I created/deleted the element on the diagram.   None of these duplicates showed the contents of the package properly.   Running data integrity again showed no problems with the model this time.  I therefore resorted to the catch-all XMI import/export.

Good news to report.  After the model was re-imported, all seems to be well.     However a number of questions remain
- any idea what the corruption was ?
- is this an EA6 issue or was it just carried forward from EA5  (if not should we go back to EA5 ?)
- is it likely to re-occur ?   This is a relatively simple model which is a bit worrying, so has anyone else experienced this sort of issue ?  How widespread it is would provide an indicator of how likely it is to re-occur

any comments welcome,
thanks

Hello.  Can anyone confirm whether the replication process also includes the new discussion forum feature in EA6 ?

General Board / EA, RAQuest and replication
« on: November 24, 2005, 01:48:28 am »
Hello.   Can anyone confirm if replication still works correctly if the RAQuest add-in is being used - in other words the additional attributes used by RAQuest are supported ?

thanks

Bugs and Issues / Shift-Arrow Ctrl-Arrow in Floating Diagrams
« on: March 13, 2012, 09:14:29 pm »
These keys which allow you to move elements or resize them don't appear to work in a floating diagram.  If you return the diagram to a tab, then they do.

Bugs and Issues / Adding Tagged Values to Multiple Elements
« on: May 17, 2013, 02:39:38 am »
The help says...

"You can add a Tagged Value to one or more elements with a special shortcut...     ...select one or more elements and press Ctrl+Shift+T.     The Tagged Values dialog displays, which enables you to enter a Name and Value for the tag."

I tried this with the Project Browser.  Unfortunately it doesn't work there.  The tagged value is only added to the last element selected.  It does work though if you select multiple elements on a diagram.

Bugs and Issues / Mindmap elements don't honour template elements
« on: January 13, 2012, 02:20:28 am »
Seems to me that the Mindmapping elements don't honour the size/appearance of template elements of the same type set up on a mindmapping diagram in a project's "templates" folder

Bugs and Issues / Instability of rtf document generation in 9
« on: May 24, 2011, 01:10:20 am »
I'm finding the RTF generator in 9 much less stable than in 8.  It used to crash fairly regularly in 8,  but nowhere near as much as it does in 9.  Using a model in 9 that was originally put together with EA 8, generating the same document multiple times without restarting EA predictably seems to follow one of these 2 sequences.

1.  First run, generally OK
2.  Second or third run comes up with "EA encountered an improper argument"  followed by crash to desktop

or

1.  First run only picks up Master document template and none of the model documents resulting in output with a cover page only.
2.  Once this happens the generator never finds the full virtual document definition unless you generate a different document and come back to the original one.

On top of that there's
a. The issue skiwi has raised with items such as diagram legends and hyperlinks being picked up and erroneously, irritatingly, added to the output document.
b.  Numbering problems when iterating through child packages.  I notice from the release notes that this functionality has been touched to "fix" it but in my case it used to work in EA 8, but now I get level 3 which should be say 3.1.1 jumping back to 3.x  and level 4 jumping forward to level 5 as  3.1.0.0.1   This is without changing any templates in 9.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems ?  :(
