Bugs and Issues / Re: Individual model document layouts
« on: May 22, 2012, 11:00:06 pm »
This should be possible, but you have to set the orientation in each of the RTF model document templates I believe.

If I remember correctly you need to go to the Edit menu, then the Edit Section option, and then set portrait or landscape for that RTF template (assuming you only have one section in the document).

Then when you generate the output from the master document, the orientation of each model document should be honoured.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Connectors in Use Case Diagram into the backgr
« on: March 07, 2012, 03:52:51 am »

how may I get Connectors into the background of UseCases.
I know howto hide Connectors, but I want to still be able to see them. But it is annoying that the Connector-lines cross my UseCases at the front. Is there any way to change that and if it is possible how do I change it?

ps: EA 7.5

I think the answer is to upgrade.  There are more options to control connectors both in their routing (have the connector line go anywhere you want) and shape (curved, straight etc.)  and you can now show a connector jumping over another one rather than just crossing it.

Then is it time to submit a bug report ?

Build 864 was the last build for 8.x   -  are you using that ?
if so the behaviour should be as mentioned in the release notes for build 864

Style for notes fields in generated documentation improved.
•Paragraph spacing, alignment and indents. Font face and size will always be copied from template.
•Font color and styles such as bold or italics can be copied from template if 'Use Style Defined in Templates for notes' is set.

Build 904 also has a fix
•Bulleted and Numbered lists from notes now be generated with the paragraph spacing specified by the template

I remember an issue like that, but was under the impression it had been fixed - which version of EA are you using ?

Also, there is the document (template) option "Use style defined in template for notes"  which should override any specific element formatting.

It might not solve any problems, but this thread has some useful information in it

Just so you don't feel alone I am having similar problems, though you have done better than me as I am not getting the font changes I make reflected back in Normal.rtf, the only way I can get the fonts consistent is to base every new template on one I created with the fonts I wonted and even then the list overrides do not persist.

Have you tried:
1) setting up your fonts, deleting all text from the document and then exporting the template to normal.rtf
2) making sure your exported normal.rtf is put in the right location, on Windows in the EA RTFTemplates folder under your profile?

Bugs and Issues / Re: Importing a whole model from an XMI
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:13:09 pm »
I've heard of connector styles being different in a baseline comparison, although it's disconcerting, it doesn't appear to be serious.

A missing package is very concerning, but we'd need some sort of sample to reproduce it. I hope you still have the original data somewhere...

The option for external references is not expected to make any difference when the entire model is being imported. It is for references outside of the package being imported, again I'm not aware of any issues resolving references between packages within an XMI file.

So if I've understood that,  for a complete model only ONE import is (or should be) required, rather than the mulitple imports Paolo suggests.   As Qwerty imported a complete model and had issues, this suggests there's a problem somewhere - time for a bug report ?

Cool, yet another hidden feature I didn't know about.
(who's bright idea was it to hide that feature behind the "L" key :-X)

The Alt-L thing is more of an L-Alt thing ;D
You have to first press L and then (while holding the L) press Alt.
Then you can release both keys and the colors stay visible.

Works for me - neat feature !

However I don't see it mentioned on the Keyboard Shortcuts section of the help - Roy ?

Bugs and Issues / Re: Managing multiple active requirements sets in
« on: February 02, 2012, 05:28:24 am »
One thing that may help - but does not solve the issue - is using the "Maintenance" window.  From this Window and the "Changes" tab on it, you can keep a complete change history for any element, which therefore includes requirements.   A change history can be pulled into documentation generated by EA, even in a nice table at the end of every element's definition.  Perhaps combining this with baselines could be made to work?

By using the Phase/Version attributes of elements you could also establish which new requirements appeared in a later phase via a search.

Bugs and Issues / Mindmap elements don't honour template elements
« on: January 13, 2012, 02:20:28 am »
Seems to me that the Mindmapping elements don't honour the size/appearance of template elements of the same type set up on a mindmapping diagram in a project's "templates" folder

Bugs and Issues / Re: Instability of rtf document generation in 9

9.1 build 910 does seem to be a lot more stable, although I have managed to crash it once using the RTF generation dialogue.

Build 908 has been released and the release notes suggest some stability issues have been addressed, although not all the bugs mentioned here.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Instability of rtf document generation in 9

I'm finding the RTF generator in 9 much less stable than in 8.  It used to crash fairly regularly in 8,  but nowhere near as much as it does in 9.  Using a model in 9 that was originally put together with EA 8, generating the same document multiple times without restarting EA predictably seems to follow one of these 2 sequences.

1.  First run, generally OK
2.  Second or third run comes up with "EA encountered an improper argument"  followed by crash to desktop

1.  First run only picks up Master document template and none of the model documents resulting in output with a cover page only.
2.  Once this happens the generator never finds the full virtual document definition unless you generate a different document and come back to the original one.

On top of that there's
a. The issue skiwi has raised with items such as diagram legends and hyperlinks being picked up and erroneously, irritatingly, added to the output document.
b.  Numbering problems when iterating through child packages.  I notice from the release notes that this functionality has been touched to "fix" it but in my case it used to work in EA 8, but now I get level 3 which should be say 3.1.1 jumping back to 3.x  and level 4 jumping forward to level 5 as   This is without changing any templates in 9.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems ?  :(

I've raised a bug report for all this.
