Bugs and Issues / Re: enterprise architect - copy diagram
« on: May 06, 2011, 01:58:57 am »
Hhmmm.  In EA 8 build 864 I don't see this behaviour whether a deep copy is used or a shallow one.

The note links appear whether the note was exposing a feature of an element as well as if the note is independent.

Which version of EA are you using ?

Bugs and Issues / Re: Warning during RTF Generation
« on: February 15, 2011, 04:05:05 am »
I have seen this message a number of times.  We use custom RTF master/model documents etc.. and each time in my case the warning/error has appeared when an RTF template was referenced that did not exist.  I much prefer this approach - even if the message isn't as hepful as it could be - to what used to happen namely EA would either crash or produce incorrect output without telling you there was a problem.

From what you have said, it looks as though it is also warning you if you have a SQL search specified as part of your rft generation/master/model documents but the query doesn't return anything.   I think the best approach is to sort the problem out that is causing the warning,  then you can be sure the document generation is actually running without problems.

Bugs and Issues / Free format RTF tables
« on: September 20, 2010, 11:07:45 pm »
Hello.  I consider myself a reasonably experienced user with the RTF editor, however I've hit a very irritating problem, but I'm not 100% sure it's a bug or whether I've missed something.

What I'm trying to do is include a free format table in a linked document,  i.e. by free format I mean a table that does not pull information from the model.  It has a 4 rows and 6 columns,  and describes the project governance in terms of meetings that are expected to happen and be minuted etc..

The thing is, visually on the screen I can changed the width of the columns and get the table looking very nice.  But if I save the document, exit and then go back into it,  all the settings have been lost.  The table is still there,  but with what appear to be random column widths and an overall size that extends far beyond the right margin of the document such that you can't see a couple of the columns at all.

I have been unable to fix this, except in MS Word after report generation (the rtf output generated matches the rogue display in the rtf editor).

Has anyone else seen this issue?    If so, does anyone has a fix/workaround.  Or should this be submitted as a bug ?

thanks

Bugs and Issues / Re: Report Generator runs out of memory
« on: March 10, 2010, 10:28:52 pm »
We've had similar issues in the past,  and I agree the rtf generator is flaky and difficult to get to grips with (although I haven't tried v8 yet),  however we've largely got over the problems by starting again and making sure we have our styles, lists etc..  defined in one place - normal.rtf.

Then we have re-built ALL our templates based on that to ensure consistency across the templates.  All of a sudden at generation time we have proper numbering across documents, consistent formatting and something that really almost looks professional.  We do still do some final polishing in Word - but that is no more than a couple of minutes per document.

Two irritating bugs still outstanding :
- the generator appends an extra paragraph at the end of each model document in a virtual document).
- update styles from nromal.rtf doesn't work for existing styles it will only add new ones.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Elements missing from Project Browser
« on: May 20, 2010, 12:39:51 am »
This issue definitely still exists in build 856.  I have submitted a bug and Sparx has confirmed they have reproduced it.   They are saying however that missing elements due to Lazy Load are now related solely to Document Generation.

Well in fact I thought I was on the latest build,  but I wasn't because even though I'd downloaded it I hadn't installed it.  However I tried all this again with 856 and the issue was still there.

However thanks to you and Paolo I've stopped panicking as I know what the problem is and can get the elements back.

Bugs and Issues / Elements missing from Project Browser

This is a repeat of a message in "EA v8 - doc generation" as I think it merits its own thread.

I have found something that is pretty sinister.   I have document elements on diagrams that work correctly in the sense that the are displayed on the diagram, you can click on them to modify properties and linked docs can be edited,  however ...

They do not exist any more in the project browser !!!

"Find in browser" just doesn't find them.   Attempting a project integrity check doesn't find any issues.  All of this is v8.856 and very worrying.

In short they seem to have disappeared from the package that owned them - in each case in fact each document had its own package and was the only element in the package.   These packages still exist but are now empty.

How do I get an element that exists on a diagram (or multiple diagrams) and can be found in Model Search (but not in Find in Project Browser) back into the project browser - back into the package where they should be ?

Sounds like Sparx should fix it - have you raised a bug report ?

Paolo - that helps a lot thank you.  Huge sigh of relief.  The elements are back where they should be.  This is still build 855.  I have 856 downloaded but not installed - I think I'll do that right now !

I have now experienced this issue as well related to document artifacts, some don't seem to get pulled into the generated document any more !

I investigated a bit further and what I've found is pretty sinister.   I have document elements on diagrams that work correctly in the sense that the are displayed on the diagram, you can click on them to modify properties and linked docs can be edited,  however they do not exist any more in the project browser !!!   Whcih is why they don't get pulled into the generated rtf !

Just checking - have all you guys formally reported this issue?
And if so have you had any acknowledgement/confirmation from Sparx that it's a problem and they're working on it ?

I too have this issue. My version is, despite checking the 'Include all diagram elements in report' option, from a diagram containing 13 linked elements I now get a report that contains 2 elements with Version 8. In Version 7.5 I get the full set of elements as expected. Not impressed  >:(.

Hey Mr Sparx, please fix this and issue an update.

Everyone who's having this problem should submit a formal bug report to make it clear to Sparx that this is a widespread problem.

We had a minor problem in the Document Template Editor. For some reason, at some workstations, the template code was messed up (field names were really strange), the generated documents were however ok. the messy template code could be solved by enabling "View|Field Names", then the code returned to a nice readable form. Im not sure wheter this is a bug or not, have not reported it as such anyway.

Just for clarification this "messy template code" issue can arise purely in 7.5, I don't believe it's related to the v8 upgrade.   I think it happens on certain machines because it's a local setting to each machine.   We've seen it a number of times way before 8 was available even in beta.
