Bugs and Issues / Re: Instability of rtf document generation in 9

9.1 build 910 does seem to be a lot more stable, although I have managed to crash it once using the RTF generation dialogue.

Build 908 has been released and the release notes suggest some stability issues have been addressed, although not all the bugs mentioned here.

I'm finding the RTF generator in 9 much less stable than in 8.  It used to crash fairly regularly in 8,  but nowhere near as much as it does in 9.  Using a model in 9 that was originally put together with EA 8, generating the same document multiple times without restarting EA predictably seems to follow one of these 2 sequences.

1.  First run, generally OK
2.  Second or third run comes up with "EA encountered an improper argument"  followed by crash to desktop

or

1.  First run only picks up Master document template and none of the model documents resulting in output with a cover page only.
2.  Once this happens the generator never finds the full virtual document definition unless you generate a different document and come back to the original one.

On top of that there's
a. The issue skiwi has raised with items such as diagram legends and hyperlinks being picked up and erroneously, irritatingly, added to the output document.
b.  Numbering problems when iterating through child packages.  I notice from the release notes that this functionality has been touched to "fix" it but in my case it used to work in EA 8, but now I get level 3 which should be say 3.1.1 jumping back to 3.x  and level 4 jumping forward to level 5 as  3.1.0.0.1   This is without changing any templates in 9.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems ?  :(

I've raised a bug report for all this.

Bugs and Issues / Re: master document filtering not working
« on: September 27, 2011, 09:56:39 pm »
Well I don't disagree with you that it would be useful to have a global filter setting like that,  but to play devil's advocate, the fact that you can determine what gets included at a more granular level is also very powerful.

For example, at a particular stage in a project we have High-Level Requirements signed off and Detailed Requirements - traced back to the high-level ones - in Draft status.   Our Master Document definition documenting the detailed requirements has many model documents within it, but one of those pulls in the High-Level Requirements from their own package based on the "Approved" status and another model document pulls in the Detailed Requirements from a separate package based on status as well, where the status is different to the High-Level.  If there was only the global filter setting this woudn't be possible.

An alternative you may want to explore is using the model search to extract what you're interested in on a "global" basis, and then use that as input to the RTF generation.

Bugs and Issues / Re: master document filtering not working
« on: September 21, 2011, 06:46:46 pm »
I think the issue may be the fact that each component in the overall document you're building has its own template, and so has its own set of options.  As you haven't set any filtering in these options you don't see any in the document produced.

So basically, when you use the filter after hitting F8, that only applies to the master document and gets overridden as each component document is processed.   What you have to do, I think, is set the filtering option for the template(s) that is/are being used by each of your (model) documents and save it/them.  Then when you produce the overall document from the Master Document the RTF generator will check those options in each individual template as it processes each embedded document.

skiwi - I take it this is still an issue in 905 ?

Yes,  please see this thread:

Please also log your own bug report with Sparx - if more people report the issue, the more likely it is to be fixed.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Diagram filters using tagged values

Hi all,

I want to use tagged values to mark e.g. a button or a combobox in a user interface diagram that was added e.g. because of a change request. Later I would like to see only those changes and therefore I would like to display only the newly added objects.

Does anyone know if it is possible use diagram filters to do this? Or are there any other good ideas?

Thanks,

nueltz

While not wanting to suggest that the request for filtering by tagged value is invalid,  to meet the requirement stated above, an option would be to create a filter and use the "Date created" or "Date modified" fields with an "After" or "Before" condition.

Bugs and Issues / Re: enterprise architect - copy diagram
« on: May 06, 2011, 01:58:57 am »
Hhmmm.  In EA 8 build 864 I don't see this behaviour whether a deep copy is used or a shallow one.

The note links appear whether the note was exposing a feature of an element as well as if the note is independent.

Which version of EA are you using ?

Bugs and Issues / Re: Warning during RTF Generation
« on: February 15, 2011, 04:05:05 am »
I have seen this message a number of times.  We use custom RTF master/model documents etc.. and each time in my case the warning/error has appeared when an RTF template was referenced that did not exist.  I much prefer this approach - even if the message isn't as hepful as it could be - to what used to happen namely EA would either crash or produce incorrect output without telling you there was a problem.

From what you have said, it looks as though it is also warning you if you have a SQL search specified as part of your rft generation/master/model documents but the query doesn't return anything.   I think the best approach is to sort the problem out that is causing the warning,  then you can be sure the document generation is actually running without problems.

Bugs and Issues / Free format RTF tables
« on: September 20, 2010, 11:07:45 pm »
Hello.  I consider myself a reasonably experienced user with the RTF editor, however I've hit a very irritating problem, but I'm not 100% sure it's a bug or whether I've missed something.

What I'm trying to do is include a free format table in a linked document,  i.e. by free format I mean a table that does not pull information from the model.  It has a 4 rows and 6 columns,  and describes the project governance in terms of meetings that are expected to happen and be minuted etc..

The thing is, visually on the screen I can changed the width of the columns and get the table looking very nice.  But if I save the document, exit and then go back into it,  all the settings have been lost.  The table is still there,  but with what appear to be random column widths and an overall size that extends far beyond the right margin of the document such that you can't see a couple of the columns at all.

I have been unable to fix this, except in MS Word after report generation (the rtf output generated matches the rogue display in the rtf editor).

Has anyone else seen this issue?    If so, does anyone has a fix/workaround.  Or should this be submitted as a bug ?

thanks
