Bugs and Issues / Using access 2007
« on: December 01, 2010, 07:56:39 am »
I upsized to Access 2007, viz
Quote
Using Access 2007, open a .EAP file and allow Access to convert it to a .ACCDB file. This forms the Access 2007 repository.

There was one conversion error

Quote
-3831: The current file format no longer supports user-level security. The conversion or compaction process has removed any user-level permissions.

As my EAP file already contained the (Jet 4) project, why is step two required?

Bugs and Issues / Copy and paste diagram looses formatting
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:44:34 am »
I have used the 8.0 feature to copy a diagram, then paste the diagram (shallow) (EA on SQL Server with security enabled).

Unfortunately a number of elements loose these formatting.

It appears that this occurs that this is because some elements in the diagram (originating from other packages) were locked.

It seems to be that this is a bug because 'expected behaviour' would be to copy both elements and formatting regardless of the lock status.

Formatting that is lost included alternate images, font size, font colour, background colour, and note position on data objects.

Bugs and Issues / Find in all diagrams ctrl-U does not find model do
« on: November 02, 2010, 02:47:20 pm »
Model documents reference packages.

However using the project browser, the "find package in all diagrams" command,
packages referenced in master/model documents are not found.

Surely this is a bug!

Bugs and Issues / Copy diagram from one model to another
« on: October 21, 2010, 07:05:05 am »
I have two EA models open, in separate instances of EA.

I use copy diagram to load the clipboard

However the other instance of EA does not recognise that there is anything to paste

This looks buggy. Before I report it I'd welcome any thoughts

Bugs and Issues / 861 hangs on startup
« on: August 23, 2010, 08:41:34 am »
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem.

EA is started from a desktop shortcut which includes link directly to model. This has been working well for several versions.

This appears to happen only after machine has been started.

EA prompts for DB password, then hangs running one core at 100% (tried waiting for 2 hours once and still hanging)
When killed and the procedure is repeated it starts fine

Environment WXPSP3 client. S2003 back end with SLQ Server 2005.

Bugs and Issues / Strategic modelling - Strategic Map
« on: June 22, 2010, 02:00:28 pm »
EA has recently added "Strategic Modelling" tools, and specifically a "Strategic Map".

Both the built in help and the EA guide on the website are silent about these tools. (so are the forums)

Can anyone point me in the direction of some documentation.

Why do I want this?
I want to understand the objects provided in the tool,
and specifically why I can't add an action to a (custom)  diagram strategic map.

Bugs and Issues / 856 EA CPU bound
« on: June 03, 2010, 08:21:34 am »
I've go EA CPU bound after trying the Spring layout.
Has anyone seen something like this?

How can I capture some crash data for Sparx to diagnose, since it hasn't crash.

Where is that black box I've been wanting?

Bugs and Issues / 846 Legends in generated documents
« on: May 31, 2010, 08:23:57 am »
I have the following legend in a diagram.

When I generate my document this is the legend that is displayed.

has anyone else observed this problem?

I believe this may also be an issue in recent earlier versions of EA?

Bugs and Issues / 856 COpy diagram image to clipboard.
« on: May 31, 2010, 08:39:24 am »
In windows has anyone noticed that Diagram | Copy image
does not produce an image on the clipboard that can be pasted to MS Picture Manager.

Yet the picture can be pasted to Word.

I'm wondering if EA is not correctly creating the clipboard data for the image.

Bugs and Issues / 856 Install
« on: May 27, 2010, 02:59:55 pm »
I installed 856(v8.0) over 850 (v7.5) on WXP SP3.
As part of the install in automatically uninstalled (with my permission) 7.5.

Unfortunately what it did do was also uninstall my customised
 • normal.rtl
 • EABase.eap (Jet4)
I believe that it is unacceptable to delete customised user data such as these files on an upgrade.

This raises a larger issue for which there may be an answer, but I can't locate it.

There should be a means to specify a shared (network) location for normal.rtf and EABase.eap.
Wherever they are they should no longer be installed into the program files directory on Windows.

Bugs and Issues / Unicode support in EA
« on: September 23, 2009, 12:10:52 pm »
We use EA both against *.eap files and an SQL server repository.

We are having problems with unicode, eg in notes and in names.
For example in some cases we can enter the data, but it is not the same when retrieved
( eg [ch257] comes back as a)

Is it possible this is related to the underlying access DB, or the use of the Jet 3.5.

Note I am using Jet 4.0, but there still appears to be a problem.

Bugs and Issues / Labels on data object hidden
« on: May 10, 2010, 02:09:52 pm »

I found it odd that data objects have a label (the name) that can be selected and moved (unlike the name on most entities, actually this is a nice feature).

You can also hide the labels (see image above).

Once hidden though, how do I get the label back?
Help tells me to go Appearance | Show labels
which would be fine if there was such an option.

Suggestions?

Bugs and Issues / White space, new lines, in RTF templates
« on: March 05, 2010, 09:53:17 am »
In my quest to produce professional looking documents OOTB I have been trying to understand how the RTF generator turns a template into a word document.

This issue appears to be that the RTF document generator either inconsistently handles newlines, or does not generate them when it should.

I have a document template with some debugging output, viz (I have added the # symbol to note numbering)

package >
# {Pkg.Name}
{Pkg.Notes} diagram >
{Diagram.DiagramImg}
Figure {Diagram.Figure}: {Diagram.Name}
{Diagram.Notes} < diagram p element >
#.# {Element.Name}
{Element.Notes}model document >
< model document m diagram >
Figure {Diagram.DiagramImg}
{Diagram.Figure}: {Diagram.Name}
< diagram d child elements >
< child elements
< element e child packages >
< child packages
< package

debugging output is the letters o m d and e

It seems to me that where one has

diagram >
{Diagram.DiagramImg}
Figure {Diagram.Figure}: {Diagram.Name}
{Diagram.Notes} < diagram

and there is no content at all to place between the codes (in this case "diagram>") no white space, or newlines should be inserted in the text.

It also seems to me that where one has

element >
#.# {Element.Name}
{Element.Notes}model document >
< model document diagram >
Figure {Diagram.DiagramImg}
{Diagram.Figure}: {Diagram.Name}
< diagram child elements >
< child elements
< element

that the new line after the "element >"  should always be generated - because a heading will always be generated.

In my testing it seems that this is not the case.
In some cases I have the heading being appended to the previous text, and thus the heading style wrongly applied.

There are other funnies too
When trying to place more than one code on a line (to reduce the number of empty lines that can be generated a space MUST be applied between the codes, viz < diagram child elements >

Also when working with the template, and inserting new sections existing codes can be overwritten, corrupting the template.
Surely this is just sloppy development and testing.

I have also tried model document > < model document and don't seem to have consistency between the generation of the first element encountered, and the child elements and child packages.

I would find a clear exposition of the rules relating to the insertion of content into the template, and the way while space and particularly newlines are handled.

Let me be clear about how I would like it to work.

I don't want to see empty lines created (ie multiple new lines with no content).
I want to handle all white space through document styles.
It would of course be better if the RTF editor handled paragraph formatting in a much better way, eg spacing before and after, keep lines together, keep with next, widow/orphan, but these seem to get lost in translation between normal.rtf and EA.

The RTF editor should alter content to the extent that for notes and linked documents the there should be one, and only one newline, no matter if the note or linked document has zero, two, or more newlines terminating it exactly one should be placed in the generated document (leading new lines and embedded new lines should be taken as is).

The generated document

Bugs and Issues / Repeating table headers in RTF documents
« on: November 30, 2009, 07:42:00 am »
We have had an issue for several versions where when using tables in generated documents either
 • the header row was repeated for every data row, or
 • each row had differing width cells
It looks like many tables were being generated instead of one.

We reported this recently, and I am pleased to say that we have been told a fix might be available as soon as 851
