Bugs and Issues / RTF Editor and fields
« on: October 22, 2009, 07:12:53 am »
I create a field { FILENAME } in an external document and import it so the file will correctly contain the file name after generation on printing.

After importing, saving, and generating the document I see {MERGEFIELD FIELNAME }.
This doesn't do the same thing at all.

My issue is: Why are things in the document changed under my feet.

My request:
  • Minimise the changes made to documents (eg fields, styles)
  • maximise the features of RTF supported (eg style options, table otpions)
  • enhance the round trip capability and of externally generated or modified RTF documents and document artefacts and documents templates
  • fix or improve the function of numbered styles across document artefacts and model documents (ie numbering does not continue)

Bugs and Issues / Enable upload of images directly to the Forums by
« on: September 23, 2009, 12:13:35 pm »
To make these forums more usable, and useful, please enable the upload of images.
If necessary this could perhaps be restricted to registered (paying) EA customers.

Please, anything to make describing problems and issues quicker and easier.

Bugs and Issues / Spell check then EA not responding
« on: September 23, 2009, 01:46:58 pm »
In recent 7.5 versions of EA is anyone else having an issue with the spell check (project or package) getting a long way into the check, then hanging (100% CPU on one core) and not responding to user input (eg Cancel), and having to be killed (I hate to think what this does to the repository)

I try to search the forum, and the website before I post messages
(even if, in this case I got it wrong).

It seems to me the website should always have the most up to date version of the help,
plus, through all the other resources available, I should have a better chance of hitting something that might help me.

To me the website should have the best information available,
and the best searching.

Given that the setting is for all diagrams should it not be set in
Tools | Options ?

Thanks for this

does this setting have to be made for every diagram,
or does it apply to every diagram?

PS I tried the search, but my term was "autosave", not "auto save" - I could have tried harder.

PPS will these changes also appear on the website ?

Bugs and Issues / Autosave - feature request
« on: September 10, 2009, 01:58:43 pm »
Well I got caught out today,
I left some changes unsaved in EA and came back from my meeting to find my PC had rebooted.

I checked the forum and the help,
and it appears that autosave does not exist.

Well I thought (duh) that in the 21st century this would just happen
a bit like hot water and sliced bread really.

OK, so how about it, a feature that preserves ALL changes made (up to the last key stroke) and offers to restore them after a failure.

Pleease

Bugs and Issues / Search on website reverts to "Sparx systems"
« on: September 11, 2009, 06:46:05 am »
When using the website search (top right Search ... Go form) to search the EA user guide I find that the search always reverts to "Sparx Systems" on the subsequent pages.

It should be sticky, and stay set to "EA user guide" once I have selected it, until such time as I change it.

Could it be related to
http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1247750275/39 - Build 846 - notes crippled in RTF export

I support as much use of colour as possible in modelling.

Bugs and Issues / Re: RTF repoting engine problems
« on: August 07, 2009, 10:11:48 am »
I agree that the RTF engine doesn't come up to the standard of the rest of EA. In fact it lets the side down IMHO.

I don't think they need to rewrite it. In fact they shouldn't, the world doesn't need one more implementation of a word processor.
They should look at OpenOffice.org, or similar, and try to integrate that in as the RTF editor and document generator.

FYI

The RTF editor is a third party addin - so there is limitations on the scope of change that can made this (like table formatting).

Regarding the undo facility for Sections - Sparx will post a Feature Request for this.

Fair enough, I must admit my comment was a little light hearted.
RTF is scarcely a standard, let alone an open standard, although I can see and understand why it is widely used.
Basically it tracks latest version of MSWord, and is proprietary in nature.

I was thinking more of the effort required to develop and maintain word processing software, when there is a freely available package that perhaps could be integrated with less effort, and provide a less quirky interface and functionality.

Perhaps we could suggest to EA that they use OpenOffice as their rtf editor

Bugs and Issues / Re: RTF Template: after changes fields not substit
« on: July 31, 2009, 06:22:22 am »
I now understand that, via Sparx support

The SSBookMarks style MUST NOT BE changed - this is the system Style used for defining the Sections.  It is critical that this be preserved.

As a general rule the importation of RTF documents from Word is supported, this is prior to the addition of EA's Sections.
However a constant interchange between EA and Word is not supported, post adding EA's sections, for an number of reasons.
The prime reason is that the Section Bookmarks are truncated by Word as it uses a smaller field length for these.

To use the table formatting defined in Word, export the table without the Sections, modify it in Word, paste it back to the EA editor and then add your sections.
