But it would indeed be a great help if a locked diagram was ... locked(!). And it should be a very minor and simple change in Sparx.

That's a diagram centric view not a model centric view.  A diagram is a representation of a number of elements in the model.  Elements that can belong to anyone, not just the creator of the diagram.

Maybe (I don't know the requirements) it would be better to create your own MDG rather than messing with existing MDGs. You can either create your own completely stand alone or you can extend an existing MDG.

I think there is a case for having a better crafted DFD MFD that among other things supports OWASP application threat models .  I've considered making it but really don't have the time.

I don't know if you mean that ironically, but I remember well when the "new web site" was launched and things started to get worse. That's just my observation. It might well be that just the whole company went crazy (virus? aliens?) but Mad Men (never seen it, but catches my imagination the right way) was the most obvious explanation for what seemed to happen.

I think you need to take a holiday to Aussie and experience what its like.  The Sparxians are over 120km from the only spot of real culture in their entire state (and one of very few in the entire nation).  It's full of sheep, snakes, and poisonous spiders.  Where as a mad man will be wearing a fitted suit, driving a coupe, and drinking martinis, they're probably all in overly tight stubbies,  driving old utes, and drinking a beer than manages to be even worse than Grolsch.

As well as the metamodel it is explicated stated - outside of the appendices - that certain relationships can be derived.
Yes, I was looking at this yesterday to see if it could explain some of the additional relationship types in the table. If it was used that way it hasn't been applied consistently.

I don't think anyone here is going to say that the specification is the most rigorous and well defined in the world.  It's a little bit too influenced by certain tool Vendors on the ArchiMate forum.  But EA should be able to meet the benchmark that Archi sets for implementing the specification.

Unfortunately, it is currently missing some relationships because of what I would describe as a less than rigorous definition of the metamodel within the ArchiMate specification.

As well as the metamodel it is explicated stated - outside of the appendices - that certain relationships can be derived.

It is important to note that all these derived relationships are also valid in the ArchiMate language. These are not shown in the metamodel diagrams included in this standard because this would reduce the legibility of them. However, the tables in Appendix B show all permitted relationships between two elements in the language.

So I have just got to say Sparx Systems has always been great at providing support. They usually get back to me within 24 hours and often provide workarounds or acknowledge a bug and fix it in a short period of time.

And they even take note of bugs in undocumented features :-)

Are relationships really 2nd class citizens in EA, purely for display? Or am I missing something?

Sort of.  Having used other tools where they are first class citizens I'm in two minds about whether this is a bad thing.

Bugs and Issues / Re: EA DocX missing after upgrade to Windows 10
« on: May 15, 2018, 07:31:39 am »
EA Sparx 13 and EA DocX worked well in Windows 7.
System crashes caused the upgrade to Windows 10.
Now EA Sparx 13 does not display the EA DocX addin, even though it is installed.

Hi, as a point of forum etiquette could you please start a new thread rather than resurrecting an old barely related thread.  You're more likely to come to the notice of people who can help you like the author of EA DocX.

I'm guessing that "News" section is not part of any documented release procedure and has been forgotten since the forum was updated.

Fake news.

The visual composition option is also disabled for 'ArchiMate' yes manually placing them is an option, but when there is a provision, was wondering it should be usable.

And yes, Agree with UMLized and we go above and beyond to make clients feel otherwise :)

Arguably a pure UML "ArchiMate" would be more useful to most users, but it would not be interchangeable with other tools.

Isn't this something ArchiMate 3 prescribes?
May be i'm wrong

The ArchiMate notation has visual embedding, which EA already supports.  ArchiMate does not have compartments.  EA's ArchiMate is already too UMLised as it is.

Agreed, this is just a workaround and not an ideal solution. Might be worth submitting a feature request.

A feature request to implement features not in the ArchiMate notation?

Tried disabling virus protection as I also saw a notification saying "Unauthorised changes blocked" Controlled access folder blocked: C:Windows\...\svchost.exe from making changes to memory. However that didn't prevent the problem reoccurring when trying to install again.

Did your A/V log say why it was blocked?

You are right, the stereotype isn't handling the 'Show Composite Diagram in Frame / Compartment' options, removing the Stereotype displays it though, but that defeats the purpose (it becomes a normal activity).

Ahhh that's what he meant :-)

No, I meant that each set of variants couldn't be managed by a RegEx.  The problem of multiple meanings for the same word is a different one.
As I said, one can certainly use REgExs to start the process, but they aren't enough.

I went back and read your definition of variants and I'm struggling.  But then again I'm not suggesting regex is the whole suggestion.

I guess we need a Venn diagram or something.
