General Board / Re: Time Architect - some details...
« on: November 06, 2007, 11:22:21 am »
We've added some images to show some of what Time Architect can do inside of EA.  The colours are fully customisable - we wanted something that would stand out! ;D

So far the (off-line) feedback has been good...  We invite your commments!

« on: November 05, 2007, 08:34:19 am »
Just launched!  Time Architect – a project planning, management and tracking Add-in for Enterprise Architect.

Solutions Reality is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Time Architect (TA).

TA brings full project and time management tools into EA.  Fully integrated into the EA workspace, TA allows you to plan and manage your software development from inside EA.

Manage resources, allocations and tasks.  Calculate durations and the impact of holidays and dependencies through a fully interactive Gantt Chart and data view that allows your whole team to clearly see who, is doing what, when and for how long!  Create progress reports and work sheets with the click of the mouse (HTML or PDF) and take control of your development lifecycle.

For full details please visit the website at http://www.timearchitect.net today!

Start planning, managing and tracking your projects today with the twenty day evaluation trial or buy a full license at the special introductory price of only $100 (+ taxes).  Visit http://timearchitect.net/prices.aspx for more pricing details.

Bryce,

thanks for the update.

It's a little too far to come to the symposium...

Looking forward to the website update for the rest of us ;D

All the best with the next release,

Matt

Catch, the makers of Screen Architect have a 2 day Symposium in New Zealand with Sparx at the end of the week, so maybe there will be some new announcements?

It is an interesting tool but looking forward to the next version...

Bernd,

Glad you think TA is an interesting development...

...all I can say is keep watching TA!  ;D

We believe that the plans for TA will answer many of your hopes!

The email integration should be coming along soon...

As for some of the other stuff - we are working through some designs at the moment for how we can really turn EA and TA into a very clever management tool!

Not forgetting the clever stuff it can do for modellers too (of course!) ;D

Best regards,

Matt

Bernd,

you raise some very interesting points and the PMBOK certainly is a document that deserves some serious consideration.  From the initial skim reading, I am not sure that I can call it interesting though  :) !

Solutions Reality has recently released Time Architect available from http://www.timearchitect.net and listed on the EA 3rd party products page here http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/3rdparty.html#TimeArchitect.  We have already picked up the Resources tab in EA and built a tool that is capable of working with the fields in this tab but as 'live' fields not as 'dead text fields' as you mention.

For example, start date, duration, end date and time expended now have real meaning and true time calculations can now be performed accordingly.

From these fields you can now draw a fully interactive Gantt chart that is tied into the resource panel and the rest of EA.  This means that when you allocate durations to an element, its end date is calculated based on the working day length, duration, vacations of the resource etc - before being passed back to EA.  In addition, dependencies between elements are taken into consideration to help calculate element start dates etc.

This in turn ties into an advanced data grid that allows you to filter and manage the tasks - and therefore the EA elements that have become tasks.  From this grid it is easy to see which tasks are finished, late starting, late ending, due to start and more.

As Time Architect runs inside EA, the tight integration means that it is just a simple click on the Gantt chart or the grid to get to the appropriate EA element to get the true context of the task.  Likewise, clicking on an element in EA will highlight that element in the Gantt chart or grid so you can clearly see its context in the project lifecycle.

It is our intention to continue developing TA to become a fully rounded Project Management tool that sits over EA and works with all of the appropriate EA fields and brings true meaning to these areas of EA.  We have a number of ideas of how this can be achieved, but welcome input from others as to what they would want out of such a tool.

We are currently working on version 1.2 of TA (we are trying to keep the release cycle short at the moment to allow input from our users into the development of the tool).  1.1 added the review functionality as mentioned above.  1.2 will add the ability to work on multiple tasks/EA elements at the same time - updating not only the resource information but key EA data too.

We will digest the contents of the PMBOK and see what can be added from this book and onto the roadmap for future development.

Anyone who is interested in Time Architect can download a fully functional 20 day evaluation version from the website.

Best regards,

Matt

General Board / Time, Resource and Project Management in EA
« on: August 29, 2007, 09:32:13 am »
 • Are you using EA for time calculations?
 • Are you using EA for resource management?
 • Are you using the project management capabilities in EA?
 • Do you wish there was an easy way to extract information from EA to MS Project?
 • Would you like to be able to quickly report on unallocated tasks?
 • Would you like to easily check and report on the overall status of tasks in EA?
 • Do you wish that you could quickly and  easily draw gantt charts live in EA from your models?
 • What if you could do all of these tasks(and more) now live inside EA?

Solutions Reality are currently finalising the development of an add-in for EA that already offers all these features (and more are planned for future releases).

Time Architect (for EA) is currently in private beta.  We will be announcing more details in the next few days but we are interested, by a quick 'show of hands' (reply below), the level of interest from the forum users.

Thanks for your help...

Hopefully an easy one,

Can this be installed alongside 6.5 or do I need to find a 'clean' machine?

Many thanks...

Bruno,

how big a model are you talking?

XMI export with a tool like DiffDog (XML comparison tool from Altova) is workable.  We used this as a solution on one of the projects I was working on before.  Just try and keep the packages small and you will be fine.  It really falls over if you try and do the whole model in 1 go.

Just my input.

Regards,

Matt

Bruce,

Try VM workstation if you are running out of machines....

$199 US gets you as many hot swappable machines as you need!

I have installed 5 on one of my virtual machines so as not to impact my 4.51 version and it runs great!

All developers should be issued with a licence of EA and VMWare!  Life would be much better!

(No, I don't work for either company!)

Love the new baseline functionality!

Boy, could we have done with that a couple of projects back...

Anyone now if I can generate a difference report from here?  I can't find one for looking!

« on: January 16, 2005, 07:42:32 am »
Hi there,

for really big diagrams, that all projects end up with at some stage, we copy the diagram using copy to clipboard and import it into Excel.  Not the perfect solution, but it works!

TomO,

any news on when any of these add-ins will be available for examination/beta testing/just trying out?

Many thanks,

When we need to drop out very large diagrams, and we have some Activity diagrams over 20 pages (I know, I know - don't get me started on that one!) we export the diagrams (via the clipboard) to Excel - not the most elegant way of doing it, but very effective!

General Board / Re: Font Sizes
« on: December 01, 2004, 02:46:06 am »
Thomas, thanks for the swift response - but I think I have not been as clear as I intended!

What I am looking for is a way to change the size of the font in the actual panels within EA, not the objects on the diagrams.

We currently have 3000 Actions in our activity diagrams and I am going boggle eyed trying to review them at 8 point on screen when I read the text in either the notes panel or in the dialog box.  I am looking for a way to increase screen font size effectively.  I am not sure that there is a way, just hopeful that is all.

Cheers,

Matt
