Suggestions and Requests / Labels near the node, rather than the endpoints
« on: November 12, 2010, 03:17:20 pm »
When I am naming the flows from a decision point in a BPMN diagram, I'd like the label to appear next to the decision point, rather than at the far end of the flow...

This seems intuitive to me, i.e. Is this a valid transaction? Yes, follow this line, No, follow this line.

Having to trace a line to the end to find out what the decision was seems... ...odd.

Moving the label to the other end, created disconnected labels that don't move when you move everything else on the diagram, and can result in very strange diagrams.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Document generation: relevant glossary

Ian is going to have to start paying me...

The glossary function in eaDocX does what you're requesting.

It finds items in your document, which have matching entries in the Project Glossary.

It highlights the glossary items, in your document, and adds the term and description to a glossary table in your document.

That's very funny skiwi, at the same time as being true as well !  I would add "and your friends' friends too" !

Truly, and "the horses they rode in on too!"

We need all the help we can get.

1. Export to .csv
2. Open in a spreadsheet package
3. Add the new tagged value
4. Import from .csv

I use this method to export to and import from JIRA...

(We still don't have JIRA connector here)

PS> Sparxians... if you added JIRA connector to the base functionality, I'd be a happy chappy.

You are (/your brain is) in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike  ;)

Nothing happens.

Obvious, now that you've pointed it out.

<shakes head sadly>

I'm often appalled at the obtuse paths taken by my brain...

State mail?

Snail mail? Sales email? ;)

Suggestions and Requests / Re: XSD Datatypes

I'm not sure if you're seeing more than one error.

I just tried adding a fake "type" stuff to an attribute, and received the error you described.

By changing the name of the type to "xs:stuff" it quite happily was imported into the Schema.

Just a shot in the dark...

Have you defined "types" for your attributes?

Hi People,

I'd really like it if I could select multiple classes in a diagram before selecting a new default image for those classes.

At the moment, if I select multiple classes, the context menu is no longer available.

If I use the keyboard shortcut, only one class in the selection is updated.

It's only a minor thing, but becomes more annoying when images are lost due to importing a diagram from another model.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: RTF generation with images and tables

Is it EA diagrams that you're trying to copy into your word documents?

If so, have a look at "copy RTF bookmark" in the help text.

Following Sparx's instructions, I'm creating RTF documents that contain all the material that I need in my Word documents.

In the Word documents, I have pasted links to "RTF bookmarks" that are embedded in the RTF file.

Provided that you add those bookmarks appropriately, you can update your Word documents to show new information with a few key presses...

i.e. F8 to generate an updated RTF (In EA)

Ctrl-A (Select all in Word)
F9 (Update all selected in Word)

I've raised a registered user bug report/request on this issue, I'd really like you all to do the same.

I'm struggling to create a use case in the structured scenario editor that relies heavily on alternative flows within alternative flows.

So far I haven't been able to work around this using extends and includes...

I'll happily second this request.

I'm currently using the clumsy "or returns an error" construct in the TEXT of alternative flows, where really I should be able to define an exception.

I've looked at the include and extend, but this is a bit heavy handed by comparison.

Suggestions and Requests / Use Case Editor: Automatically Highlight classes
« on: February 22, 2010, 11:13:41 am »
Hi team,

I understand that you have extended functionality in the Use Case editor in release 8.0 to automatically highlight items that appear in the project glossary.

This is a very useful function, and I wonder if you could extend this behaviour to recognising classes in the domain model?

In our Use Cases, we keep the Basic and Alternative flows as simple as possible by referring to details in the domain model as follows:

The system displays a method to enter Search Criteria

Search Criteria would be defined as a class on the domain model, showing the expected sub-types of search criteria, each with its own distinct attributes etc.

This means that the Use Cases are very easy to read, without having to wade through details which are already defined in the domain.
