General Board / Re: Dashed Line Styles on a Diagram Legend
« on: May 21, 2015, 04:41:36 pm »
OK.

I'm creating a legend for a BPMN diagram model.

How do I, in the legend, explain the difference between the Sequence Flow and the Message Flow.

HINT: Message Flow is depicted with a dotted line, and different arrow heads.

How do I select/depict these things in the Diagram Legend?

I'm in agreement with the above concept regarding BPMN and then a jump to Use Cases.

To be specific, where you have an Actor (Participant, Swimlane) interacting with a System Actor (Participant, Swimlane) to achieve a particular business outcome/goal, then you have likely identified a potential Use Case.

At the lowest level of BPMN diagrams, you may have many interactions between users and systems which take place in a single Use Case but this is just because your BPMN diagram is showing things from a different view.

Having said all that. I try to rarely use include and extend relationships between Use Cases. They add complexity for the users.

Looking at my earlier example...

A pre-condition of "The Actor must be logged in to the system" takes care of relationships between the "Log on for Duty" Use Case, and the other Use Cases which require a logged in user.

I'm going to chime in here.

One of my systems has a use case "Log in".

This is because the application delivers different functionality to logged in and non-logged in users.

It is also because, in this case, the login function is technically very complex, managing various states of users (connecting to multiple things on the back end, by a complex set of networks), joining and leaving patrols.

From memory, the complexities of log in were such, that it took the team considerable amount of time to get it working. (i.e. weeks).

Some of the other use cases have a PRE-CONDITION of log in, and others do not.

YMMV.  :D

Back in the day...

(I'm showing my age here.)

That was called tab-index order.

Ideally you should be able to navigate the whole screen by tabbing from one field to the next, from left to right, from top to bottom.

By default, fields would gain a tab index number in the order that the fields were placed on screen by the developer, and it's a final task, to set them all to appropriate values.

Another thing to check is:

View, Perspectives, Menu Sets...

Just in case it's turned off in there.

Random question...

Do you have a project open?

I just noticed that it's greyed out if there is no project open.

Is it licence specific?

I can see it (and start it up) from there (Business and Software Engineering Edition)

Only thing I've bumped into so far is a possible glitch when importing an XML Schema (XSD) file.

Sparx are investigating it to see what's going on.

It will confuse my users when they see me using the new interface.

(That's probably a good thing, keep 'em on their toes...)

It may be that your users don't have permission to modify the contents of the directory that contains the keystore file.

(Or the file itself).

I think we're talking at cross purposes here Roy.

Perhaps that WRONG image in the online help, could be deleted, and the RIGHT image could be put in it's place?

I'm on the 12.0.1202 and that WRONG image is in my embedded help.

The NAME of the image is correct, but the image itself is wrong.

Roy,

The code looks correct, but the image (online and in the embedded help) is not correct.

See here for example, this is the image named "namespacerooticon.png":

Which looks like this:

OK. The PADLOCK icon is the common element in the help text.

And the red decoration is namespace root, despite the odd icon in the help.

This is the current icon from the help, expanded:

So the class model is always the namespace root?

Are you saying that the second decoration in this set of three, should be on the "namespace root" line?

The icon is broken, but if you copy it into an editor, you can expand it.

The help clearly shows a red triangle (ish) decoration as one of the three icons that indicate "read only".

Of course neither of these things explain why every occurrence of "Class Model" has this decoration. (In projects that are neither version controlled nor marked "read only")
