Scenarios - Properties Dialog
The 'Scenarios' tab of the element 'Properties' dialog enables you to create and delete basic definitions of scenarios for the selected element, add descriptions in the 'Notes' field, and re-arrange the Basic, Alternate and Exception Scenario paths in a list.
Access
On a diagram or in the Browser window, click on the element.

Create a Scenario
If the element does not yet have a Basic Path defined, the 'Type' field defaults to 'Basic Path'.
If the element already has a Basic Path (and/or other paths), click on the
; the 'Type' field defaults to 'Alternate'. If appropriate you can click on the drop-down arrow and select 'Exception' (or, if necessary, 'Basic Path').Click on the 'Scenario' field and type in an appropriate scenario name or title.
Click on the large field under the Toolbar and type in any notes, comments, description or explanation of the scenario you are creating. You can use the Notes Toolbar and context menu to format the text and perform other text processing; see the Notes Help topic.

; the new scenario is added to the 'Scenarios' panel at the bottom of the dialog.Edit a Scenario
Click on the name of the scenario in the 'Scenarios' panel; the details are displayed in the fields in the top of the screen.
You can change the type, name, and/or notes as required.
Note that the Basic Path can have a great deal of structural specification work attached to it (via the Scenario View), which will be deleted if the path is changed from Basic to something else. If you attempt to make this change, a warning message is displayed. Always make sure that you understand the implications of changing the type of, or deleting, a Basic Path before continuing with the operation.
When you have edited the scenario, click on the
.Reorganize Scenarios
If you want to change the sequence of the scenario paths for the element, check the list in the 'Scenarios' panel and click on the first scenario to move. Then click on the 'Up Hand' icon or the 'Down Hand' icon to move the scenario up one position or down one position in the list. Do the same for any other scenarios that are not in the right sequence.
Delete Scenarios
If you no longer want to use a particular scenario, click on the scenario name in the 'Scenarios' panel and click on the
. The scenario is immediately removed from the element. You cannot delete the last remaining scenario if it is the Basic Path.Add a Specification Structure
If you want to create a scenario specification structure from the scenarios, click on the
to display the Scenarios View. This enables you to:- Add or delete steps in the scenario, or re-sequence them
- Link the Alternate and Exception paths to specific steps of the Basic path
- Manage the elements that the scenario uses at various steps
- Generate diagrams or Test Cases from the scenario
- Add constraints or context references
