Architecture Oversight

The success of an architecture will depend largely on the way it is implemented. The implementation could be at a business or technology level, but will typically involve both. The implementation teams are therefore important stakeholders to the enterprise architecture program and the architectures developed must be relevant, useful, meaningful, understandable and implementable. A practical way that this can be achieved is to involve the Solution Architects and Development Leads in the creation of the architectures, or at least seek their input. One of the key issues with the governance or oversight of implementation projects is visibility.

Enterprise Architect is well positioned to assist in the oversight of implementation projects by virtue of the fact that both the Enterprise Architecture and the Implementation projects can reside in the same repository, allowing visibility and traceability between the two disciplines. As work is completed at an implementation level it can be reviewed for compliance, and interventions or dispensations can be applied as required.
