Title: Integration with Visio

Does your product currently or will it in the future support "export/import" to a Visio Model. I find your tool much more productive than Visio (XP with .Net), yet must meet compliance standards where I work which insists upon documentation in Visio.

Hi there,

you could just choose 'export diagrams' and then from the resulting RTF copy and paste into Visio. If you were really keen you could write a VBA script in Word to automate the process, walking through all images, making separate Visio documents. Something like that: best thing to do when exploring VBA is to record a macro that does the basic stuff, then add wrappers around it do automate it some.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response, however, I do not think I stated the problem correctly, so let me try again...

Can you export the model to the Microsoft Repository from EA and then import it into Visio from the MS repository (and vice versa)? If not, is someone going to provide this feature?

I have the constraint that the model must be able to be generated from Visio or EA and cut / paste alone will not provide that.

As far as I can tell the the Visio VSD format is not the same as the Jet Engine.   Moreover, I don't know of where you would "put" EA information into a Visio document.  You could obviously move the images pehaps export them in EMF, WMF, GIF, or BMP and then Import in (we were usig Viso 2K).   But keep in mind that notes and relationship information that is within the tables of EA can't "go" anywhere in Viso (as far as I can tell).    This is one of the reasons I'm on a crusade here moving the BA's OFF of Viso and to work with EA exclusively.

Wishful thinking made me hope that all EA UML diagrams, an textual data, could be translated into Visio UML Diagrams rather than cut and paste of 'pictures', but I suppose that the real answer is to, like you, move to EA from Visio across the board (Architects, Developers, BA's).
